Ive met Jody many times over the last 35 years around Texas at dances and shows. Hes pure Texan, an outstanding musician and most of all, a gentleman. Thanks for the memories Jody!
Absolutely loved this piece about Jody & Bob Wills & Western Swing. I live up in Wyoming near Yellowstone & love western swing, wish we had more of it here. Thanks for sharing this amazing gift of music.
My Nana and her sisters used to go into Wichita Falls from Holiday to hear Bob Wills play when he'd come to town. I grew up on his music and listening to these stories. He was a BIG deal to Texans. IMO, Western Swing IS Texas.
Beautiful moments...that still take your breath away...For Jody Nix, and me too. Thank you Jody Nix for sharing...and Thank you Texas Country Reporter.
I love how your love in your heart for this history and what you still do today, shows through your eyes and your smile.....that is what I mean, Jody Nix, when I tell you that you light up the Stage! Your Dad is smiling from Heaven as he watches you carrying on the Show!
Revisited this site tonight. Ah, nothing like Western Swing! When I was a boy out in the Oklahoma Panhandle at Boise City and later just east of it at Mooreland and Woodward, and of course in the Texas Panhandle too, this was our music.
I still love Bob Wills & Tommy Duncan's music like probably every Texan, but this with Jody Nix was very special. Thanks a lot TCR, I also live in Beaumont, the home of many great country singers.
I absolutely LOVE dancing with my wife when Jody and his band are playing. Great music and great energy. In fact, I was supposed to be up in Ruidoso tonight at the Cowboy Symposium dancing to his music but had to cancel at the last minute.
i had the pleasure to play steel with bob wills the last dance he ever played at the diamond ballroom in okla city. he had that massive stroke the next day onhis way to tulsa, caines accadomy. great memories
A fine man, and my friend. Met Jody and his family, about 25 years ago, through church. Have had the pleasure of hearing him and his band, several times on our biannual visits to my wife's home area, and have enjoyed wonderful nights at the Stampede. HOWEVER, I didn't know that he has Bob Wills' fiddle! I've hosted a big band show for nearly 25 years on a local public radio show, and always include a "Cowboy Song of the Week"(sometimes two!). Bob, Hoyle, and Jody, through their recordings, have been frequent guests!
Loves me some Faded Love! I hung out in Levelland and Lubbock for three years, studying and playing music at SPC. Miss the good folks of West Texas, and their “musicals” that seemingly every town has. The salt of the earth!!
On Sundays at a big ballroom in Oklahoma City in the 1950's western swing players would gather in a big ballroom and jam. Sometimes there would be a hundred of them. I was up there once or twice when I was a drummer for Hurshul Clotheir's Oklahoma Travelers while still in High School.
Yall go watch jody perform n enjoy one of the best show anywhere.yall might even c birdie bring him a pie 🥧 too.thanks for the great music n memories jody
The violin bridge and inner soundest and bass bare are asymmetrically plCed like the fingerboard curvature to suite the different string tensions , 4:43 densities and e access tensions
Beautiful story I've met and know Jody who doesn't when you live here in Big Spring. I have an 8 track tape of his daddy that I have yet to play I'm terrified it'll ruin or something...but I'm proud of Jody keeping the tradition for its tradition that we lean on because it's family.
We have many cowboy/ Western bars, folkhouses here in Baguio , Benguet , Philippines. Bands or individuals plays Western music / songs wherein you can do giggles on the dancefloor. Yeehaaa.
6;38/7;45 shows from above ,the classic standard string configuration for all bowed and plucked instruments .; the g on the left to the e on the right which facilitates ease of access by the left fingerings hand ,to all strings and to right hand bowing. That's how they evolved.
I was in the Army tropics in 71 and met a little sawed off Texan that was a radio operator and a fiddler. I always liked Bob Wills and cowboy music in general and being a hillbilly and after scrounging an old flat top guitar somewhere, we started filling the Asian night air with some real fiddle music. Don't know what happened to the little fiddler but he sure helped me, other g.i's and some other civilian mechanics on a paving crew spend a lot of enjoyable time in a not so enjoyable place.
was in the us army in 1970 I'm going ever of Bob Will's King of western swing, They are going are you stupid are what?? not a problem came from Bronte Texas where Bob was still the KING!!!!!!
Ready for some Western Swing trivia: Bob Wills played in the 1st true Western swing band led by Milton Brown (and the Light Crust Doughboys). Milton died from a car wreck in the mid 30s or he may have been “Bob Wills”! Milton was from my hometown of Stephenville, TX and my Mother remembers him in Stephenville and on the Ft. Worth radio stations.
Anything about the inner re configuration needed. for a left handed instrument as well as fingerboard and bridge shaping and string reversal? Did he start on one ?
MY PARENTS LIVED IN TURKEY TX.! BOB WILLS BORN: TURKEY TX. A STATUE IN HONOR OF BOB WILLLS IS THERE.! STATUE A BLOCK FR. MY PARENT'S HOME. Turkey Tx Population Roughly 300 Give Or Take ......😮
Wow, keeping the legacy of his father's - and the connection to Bob Wills - going? That's a story. Here's to hoping he's got boys or nephews of his own wanting to keep Western Swing alive.
The Mrs. says: Things sure have changed, When I was single and would go to a big "Honky Tonk" in Norwalk, Calif, on a Saturday night the place was full of cigarette smoke and everybody was drinking and getting drunk and now, I see there is just bottles of water or soda and no way would you dare smoke anymore, well cleaner and a hell of a lot more boring. No more hell raising for these straight laced people. Oh, I forgot the Year, that was 1966.
Jody can sing and play very well. He can be a nice guy, but he never kept anyone around that was a better singer. This includes ex wives, girlfriends or other artists. He has a very big ego, but with his history that should be expected. By the way, I am from Big Spring.
Western swing -- the very best music in the world! Thanks all to Bob Wills and his influence.
Nothing like the oldies... The best...
That's why I love my Texas! Thank you Jody!
We danced at alot of his dances

You can see it in his eyes, he's still a kid, the music kept him young and the reverence for his forefathers is admirable.

The 8 track tape will eventually go bad, so you should listen to it. Thats what it was made for.
You can have it recorded to a CD.
Excellent
What a great story! I couldn't help chucklng, though… The reporter sounds like the MC in Disney's Country Bear Jamboree 🐻 😃
My parents used to own the country store in Luther Tx right outside of Big Spring and Jody used to come in and drink coffee with all the farmers
Thank you for this!

Keep it going Jody ,

Western Swing Rules
My grandfather played with jody and done the painting's behind the stage
Love Western Swing. You should have mentioned being named after Joe Holly, who Bob called Jody
One day I hope to meet him

How does he reach across to the e string on the right hand side of the bridge ?
❤️❤️😓
I've seen him in Boerne.

yes very rare to find left handers because of the need for a mirror image structure customised. structure of each left handed instrument .
I'm a lefty fiddler too!
Wow, keeping the legacy of his father's - and the connection to Bob Wills - going? That's a story. Here's to hoping he's got boys or nephews of his own wanting to keep Western Swing alive.
Very rare for right shoulder left hand players
❤
I used to play hide in seek in that tour bus when I was a little kid. Had no idea the history behind it at the time.
👍🏻

Everybody can't be the hero. Some people have to stand on the curb and wave as they go by. Or chirp at them.
With the right hand ? BmusARCM violin teacher
Huh, just found out that Merle Haggard played fiddle
Do Texas BLUES.
Nice history!! George Straight has nothing on this Man,
It is unusual to playing violin with left hand.
Bob Wills is still the King of country swing..
