- In this video, I talk about the benefits of succulent propagation by beheading the stems of your succulents. I demonstrate how to cut the succulents and care tips for the plants afterwards, to ensure they have the best chance of surviving the cut, and in return, grow a whole bunch of new succulent babies! If you want to grow more succulents and multiply your collection quickly by propagating, succulent propagation by beheading is definitely the fastest way to achieve this.

@@TheseSucculentBuddies hi Christine, can you advise why after I watered my succulents one is yellow soft leaves but not mushy and another is still wrinkled even after few watering few times? I already watched no.10 video about watering. It helped so much and it worked with most of my other plants but I'm struggling with only 2 succulents. Pls help. Thanks
If leaves are not plumping up after a few waterings, it's best to check the stem and roots for signs of rot. The roots may either be dead and or still trying to regenerate and grow new roots. If roots seem ok, try trimming them up a little and wait about 2 weeks to regenerate new ones. When in doubt, cut and restart as a cutting for best results.
@@TheseSucculentBuddies thanks Christine, your the best! I will do that tmrw morning as it evening in Australia. 😊
I hope it bounces back and gives lots of babies! 😊
Thanks for tha info...
You're very welcome 😊

Beautiful echeverias, hoping that one day , i have one
Aww... thank you! I bet in just a few days or weeks, you will have one! 😆
Healthy succulents what fertilizer u use?
Hi Christine, after you pot up the mother head how do you know if it has developed roots. Do you take it out of the soil to check? Also when do you start watering it. I've read that you should not water until roots have developed.
You can lift up the planted cutting after about 3-4 weeks and check for roots. Depending on the succulent beheaded, it can take longer to develop roots. And yes, do not water until it has roots. Make sure to keep the cutting in a cool shaded area while its rooting. 😊

Thanks for making this video. Very helpful indeed. I have a perfect plant to try my hands on beheading (first time). The main plant lives under full sun exposure. After beheading, shall I bring the main plant into the shade until the stem has callused off? Or can I apply cinnamon and superglue straightaway and leave it where it is
No, you want to bring it where it wont get wet and only gets indirect sunlight. Apply cinnamon right after cutting and wait 3 days for it to callous, then apply superglue. The stump needs to be in bright shade only for a few months. Because the new babies that will grow can sunburn easily. The top cutting, give morning sun when it grows a good rootball.
We’re did you find your square pots
Hi, can i behead a plant, then at the same time, same day will repot the mother plant without waiting for the mother stem to callus? I have a super leggy Vera Higgins that i want to repot and at the same day to behead. Thanks.
Should be fine. I've done it before with no problems. 😊
I also have another plant thats growing a lot of babies, theyre crowded and crushing each other, a sedum Clavatum, i would like to remove some babies to make way for the others to grow properly, will the babies survive if i plant them? Or theyre too young?
If they are too small, it's best to leave them. No matter how crowded, they find a way. But if they are almost the size of the mama, it's safe to remove and re-plant. 😊
Thank you so much for the video!! Do the places produce babies at any certain time of the year?? I can't wait for some one mine to have babies 😍😍😍
Yes, anytime of the year! 😊
Hi Christine 😊 How do you know if your plants are already mature and ready for propagation? Is it based from their age?
The older a plant is, the better it seems to propagate. But I've propagated from very young succulents to mature and they have all propagated well for me. The only difference I can really say is that older thicker stems, and bigger leaves grow new babies faster than smaller younger ones. They also have a better chance at actually being a successful propagation. But younger ones grow well too, just a bit slower. 😊
@@TheseSucculentBuddies thank you 😊 God bless you!
Hi Christine. I have replayed this video 6 times I think. Haha. I have a question, at what point of the soil dryness do you behead the plant? Does it matter if the soil is very dry or moist when we behead plant?
I always behead about 3 days after watering the plant. This way, the beheaded will be healthy and full of water when beheaded. It will use the water stored in its leaves while trying to grow new roots. This way, you wont lose as much leaves when it starts to dry out one by one. 😊
Precious reply. Thank you so much Christine. I m grateful for your videos and prompt replies to our questions. Have a blessed days and hope to see more videos from you.
Hi! Can you still use cinammon powder for the wounded part?
Yes of course! I put cinnamon all the time. I just didnt have it with me when I made the video. 😊
@@TheseSucculentBuddies Thank you for replying! I'm a newbie and I recently bought one with a mature and leggy stem. Hope it goes well when i try it. 😊
Hi Christine.
I recently subscribed to ur channel
Tbis was the vid i was looking for.
I have a Pvn..she is leaning on one side of the pot..
The top leaves are smaller than the bottom leaves....bottom
leaves look shriveled/yellow...she doesn't look healthy to me ..but its still growing....like..unhappy.
I want to behead her..
The stem has already grown pink roots...
Where do i do the cut....
U said to leave some leaves at the mother stem...
Roots are growing right from under the bottom leaves...
I think its the right oppurtunity to behead..but stil afraid to do it..
I hope to hear from u..
Thanks for sharing
Very interesting and informatve
There's a big possibility that it's growing roots on the stem because the roots under the soil are dead. You want to cut right below the roots and check the inside of the stem for signs of rot. Watch episode #77 here's the link for one I did cut recently because of the same issues, just a different echeveria. Here's the link... ua-cam.com/video/A7pOeDpai-E/v-deo.html
Episode # 71 also talks about a different type of rot but same symptoms.. here's the link... ua-cam.com/video/PEqxxvIaMbs/v-deo.html
@@TheseSucculentBuddies Thnx for replying Chris
I will def do that...n will check upon those other vids u mentioned..
Good luck dear! And thanks so much for stopping by and watching 😊💚
How many days after watering, would you recommend to behead a succulent? So that the water doesn’t after the area cut
I normally cut about 3 days after watering... 😊 Make sure to watch episode #54 for a more updated video on succulent beheading with other succulent examples. Here's the link... ua-cam.com/video/_LzCp33ZP6g/v-deo.html
@@TheseSucculentBuddies thank you! Will do ❤️
