Renault Scenic ALTERNATOR replacement - Charging system fault

- In this video, I tackle the daunting task of replacing an alternator on this 2015 Renault Grand Scenic.
I show you how to diagnose the fault. I then show you what parts need to be removed for access and walk you through the process of getting in at this difficult to reach component which is often the source of Battery Charging Fault indications on the dashboard. I also show you what else you might need to look at in order to get rid of this alarm.
Every so often I like to remind myself why I prefer working on classic cars by tackling a problem with a modern car. This certainly ticked that box. It is a daunting task for sure, but remember, it's all nuts and bolts, and if you're methodical and take your time, you should be able to tackle this job yourself.

Thanks!
big respect to your honesty pain and work some car manufactors put some parts in very dificult places
great work anyway, thanks for showing how to remove the alternator. Renault at its best, too much electronics nowadays.
What a MASSIVE BULLWORK ! 😮Cheers ! These cars don't seem to be engineered for repairs in mind !😢
Thank so much for your help
Super 👍👍👍
Hi Ross. Where about in Ireland are you?
Do you fine the problem ? Mine do the same
The alternator was bunched. Replacing it fixed the charging issue. I'd imagine I'd need Renault's console to reset the fault though, which I don't have.
@@Endfloat An identical voltage regulator is required, as on the old alternator. Otherwise, the replacement, or the entire alternator, must be programmed through CAN CLIP diagnostics so that the "smart" charger controller in the UPC box knows how to communicate with the regulator. Diagnostics will certainly show that the alternator is not recognized and that the error is permanent, that it cannot be deleted.
I struggled with the same problem for months. Due to EU pollution standards, the UPC module at one point (when the car is idling) can completely turn off the alternator, in order to reduce pollution. 14v is not constant, but UPC adjusts it to the consumption of the vehicle. The voltage can be lowered to barely 13v, if the UPC deems it so
@@sstojsin what an utterly ridiculous piece of technology. Thank you for the info though!
