Im from Albania in Europe and just pointed on my mouse on a random location of the world on google maps. And ended up in this island. Got curious now im disturbed
Thanks for “visiting” our little corner of the world. Yes this island has a disturbing history, but if you set that aside and take a fresh look at it, it really is a beautiful little jewel of an island. If you ever visit the U.S.A. in person, pay us a visit here in Michigan. We would love to have you.
I did one of my first long solo flights directly over South Fox Island from Cheboygan just to see it, and the airstrip, a decade ago. I'm from Northern Michigan and had NO idea the history there! Yikes!
Yooo I’ve lived in Michigan my whole life an never knew anything about this!! A lot of horrible things happen on islands. Epstein may have got an idea from the guy…very impressed by the jet ski voyage also!! So many ships lost in the Great Lakes and homie is bombing it on a jet ski!!! 👏 🤙
@bdadventures2293 @ Ghislaine Maxwell trial the pilots testified that they flew between NYC, Florida, Traverse City Michigan & Epstein Island. This was in the 80s, 90s & 2000s. It's still going on somewhere in this area.
I suppose a private Island is the best refuge for these Pedos. Makes me wonder how many islands are like this, current and former. Sickos inadequate men that can’t please a women. I just don’t buy the born like it. Something happens in a pedos upbringing that does this.
Rodney, thank you for the educational video. I have been to Beaver Island many times and was always fascinated by the unique history. However I had no idea about the history of North Fox island. Thank you sharing. -Jason
Beautiful Island, hate to hear about its dark pass. Seems like the islands pass has changed for the best from the looks of it. Great content, thanks for sharing! Billy D
At the Ghislaine Maxwell trial the pilots said they flew to Traverse City, Michigan. Coincidence? I think not. Those pilots were from the 80s, 90s, 2000s. It's still going on in that area.
Rodney, really interesting content, just put in my order on a new Yamaha jet ski. Your trips have inspired me to venture out on the Great Lakes to site see next summer. Have you considered taking a day trip from Crooked Lake to Burt Lake to Mullet Lake through Cheboygan River and a ride to Mackinac Island or Bois Blanc Island?
2 years in prison for destroying children's lives, yet the same Michigan justice system won't hesitate to put you away for 10+ years over drug possession. Makes sense.
A very well done video. Kudos. Although it is infuriating to learn that Sheldon never faced justice. Who knows how many more boys he may have victimized after escaping to Europe.
As long as the water is nice, I don't worry about it too much. I carry an emergency beacon in case things go south. Thanks for your comments, and check out my Lake Michigan crossing video: ua-cam.com/video/hhTNhg3sWsA/v-deo.html
A group of three of us kayaked to South Fox (Island hopping via Squaw, Beaver and North Fox ) from the UP and back a few years ago. So it seems sane to me.
No, the main house was burned down by the State of Michigan shortly after they acquired the Island from David Johnson - it was in very bad condition having been open to the elements for years. I was the last person to laboriously mow the runway with a 22" gas push mower 3 years before the RAF took it over, so I could go there frequently with my Piper Cherokee from my home on Beaver Island, and I spent many, many days there usually sleeping in the 2 room "guest cabin", tho sometimes camping at the airstrip. Your vastly oversimplified history of North Fox completely ignores the long, fascinating, prior history of logging, fishing, homesteading and occupancy by Strangite Mormons.
Thanks John for your insights. The amount of information available on line is limited in many cases and I always appreciate people like yourself who provide additional information and expand on the content with their own memories and experiences. I had many such insights in the comments section of my Alabaster Abandoned Gypsum Loading Dock video. Have a look when you have time. The comments are just as interesting, if not more, than the video!
Thats incredible. I see a lot of pilots that have visited the island many time all over michigan, seems like everyone at some point has taken their wide variety of aircraft up there at some point. I plan to fly there in a couple days in my 71 grumman. Cant wait to go check it out
Never knew this about the island, and some of the comments from men who were on the island during that time sent shivers down my spine! Unfortunately, Sheldon was never caught here in the states, and moved overseas. Probably doing the same thing over there. She should have rotted away in prison for what he did on the island! It is a beautiful island, but I don’t think I can visit the place knowing what happened there.
I flew my airplane to north Fox Island; I noticed it is exactly north of the Goshen IN. airport. Exactly. I camped overnight. I imagined that for one day I was the mayor & sheriff there. At the time it was loaded with monarch butterflies. No cell service.
Just curious if you flew out of Goshen Municipal Airport-GSH? On google maps there are 2 A10's there? One with old style camo. Anyway that image could have been years, just curious if you knew :) PS (I'm an aircraft freak and love maps)
I do carry a radio, as well as a beacon and various other emergency items. Max range is about 125 miles. I have an extra 20 gallon tank that I can strap on the back for longer trips.
i landed a small plane on north fox back in 95 the house was still there. it was shaped in a point that aimed at the water and probably had a good view. i dont think the house was a half mile from the strip. more like 5-600 yards. there was a small shed with a large mower for the strip i remember the grass on the strip was 2-3 feet tall. i didnt realize there was a guest cabin in the woods because it was hidden in the forest. this was before the state bought the island. there were no other planes there so we took a chance and explored. we did notice the whole area did have a creepy feel to it
Yea your pretty close. 750 yards from the plane to the cottage.. There should be a good size rock next to the Cabin. There a little box buried next to it. I know I was sent there in 1963 at age 5. And I got punished for telling them that they made me do things naked and they filmed it. But hey you people think what you want
Open Water, "Blue water" (inland sea-going) jetskiing is this producer's niche and phenomenal product. How come regular and common boaters by the thousands, and pilots in the hundreds don't make trips to the Lake islands like this? Perhaps the relatively tiny draft of the jetskis, greater speeds and maneuverability allow a whole entirely new opportunity for travel, exploration, discovery and adventure NO ONE knows about or appreciates fully yet. Since realizing the enormous potential of inland sea-going long distance bluewater jetskiing, I have been fascinated by the discovery of such as a means of general transportation that rivals sailing, flying, motorcycling, driving, boating, bicycling, etc. and can do all the things we can do with these other means of personal transportation for a whole range of corresponding NEW phenomenal opportunities to go new (and old) places quickly with more stuff and less cost, hassle, danger, etc. Unlikely as the concept seems to be, it is or seems to be (potentially) phenomenal as was the technological, conceptual and commercial birth, (and social impact) of the automobile!
I can’t believe the price the first guy paid for the island was just $20,000. Even in 1960 that would have been a bit less than to cost of 2 average homes
Yes. It has a public airport (a public-use grass strip, actually). And you can also go there by boat. The island is state land and is not a wildlife refuge. Because of its remoteness it is not often visited. So if you visit, you will probably have the whole island to yourself!
Then demand I sit by and do nothing. 1963. 3 men come to my home and tell my mother it would be better if he went to a Catholic School and they would teach him how to live in a white mans world. One was are welfare case worker. Telling mom if I didn't go to that school they would cut are assistance. The second was a Priest from Kateri Catholic Church. "We will make you a real boy" The third was the head of Boy Scout Troupe. He wanted to take me on a summer camp with other little boys.
Then there’s south fox island. David Johnson picked it up in a land swap with DNR. Built a jet runway on pristine dune habitat. Rents out the island to wealthy elite. Must be nice 😂
No he did not. That is public property owned by the State of Michigan. I have spent many nights in that cabin before I sold my airplane and no longer fly from my home on Beaver Island.
I'm glad the state of Michigan spent 2 million dollars in taxpayer money on a pedophile museum. For that much money they could have razed the structures and given the island a real fresh start. Looking at the shag carpeting makes me cringe thinking about the horrors that occurred there. That 2 million could've went to fund parks that people without boats and airplanes could access. I hope someone puts game cameras in front of that cabin to catch the next generation of wealthy gym teachers. Thanks for uploading the video, it was professionally edited and flowed perfectly. Quality content, which UA-cam needs more of.
I too am truly thankful that the State of Michigan bought North Fox - it is now preserved for public use and enjoyment forever. Probably the very best money the State EVER spent. Otherwise it would have been just another private island for one ultra-wealthy person. Having spent hundreds of days over the last 50 years tramping ALL over both of the Manitous (long before the NPS acquired them), both Foxes, virtually everywhere on my home Beaver Island and all of the out-islands of the Beaver Archipelago (High, Garden, Hog, Squaw, Whiskey and Trout) .... I must say that North Fox Island is one of the most stunningly gorgeous spots on planet Earth.
If you don't look and listen, this stuff will keep happening. The more eyes that see this and the more ears that hear this can spread the message to others to investigate. If you do nothing they will keep on doing it. Take you head out of the sand and be a man. Speak for those that can not speak any longer. Always remember the ones that suffered at the hands of these animals.
No. It's owned by the state of Michigan, along with the rest of the island. One big advantage this island has going for it is that it is quite far off shore and has no facilities, so it gets few visitors that fit into the Riff-raff category. The main visitors are pilots who generally tend to be respectful of property and appreciative of the work the RAF does to maintain the airstrip and grounds.
