First time I went to burning man was in 1996 and the last time I went was in 2015. Everyone was getting old then, can't imagine how it is now. It just became too big of a pain in the ass, the cost had become ridiculous. Wife and I can go to Hawaii for a week with the cost of BM. I live in the Bay Area so driving to the playa was only 4-1/2 to 5 hours and it is still crazy expensive and preparing for it was time consuming. I burned out on Burning Man and let's face it, no one wants to see a bunch of old people drunk, high and naked...it's just sad.
Same thing with boats and boating at the river. Watching middle-aged people in swimwear and water skiing isn't all that much fun. Sure was when we were 17-35 or so.
I was there in 2017 helping the man crew build the man. I was up there in a boom lift while the giant roof was being lifted on the columns. I work for Heat Heavy Equipment and Transportation. We build the city and the art with heavy equipment. I was out there for 40 some days this year. It takes a Long time an A Lot of people to set up and take down the city. It is an actual CITY with a Zip code that gets built every year! Then Lots of people stay for a long time after to clean up after All the people that aren't as respectful. There is Lots of full time people also to help build and take down this wonderful city for people to experience.
The way I understand it, the cost is predicated on how hot you look and how much people want to bang you. The v1rg1n nerds who are beta males and cucks, they pay full price because no one will subsidize them since no one really wants to be around them. But if you are hot, are willing to parade around naked, and everyone wants to take you to bed, then the nerds (who are the "marks") will fully subsidize you to go there, you only have to sleep with other hot people, and you get to do all the drugs. What a horrible experience.
The art installations would be the only thing I'd be interested in seeing. The drugs, the "music", the pretentiousness, the silliness of the "anti capitalist" mindset when the whole thing couldnt exist without it... its just yet another destination for mindless party people.
Thanks for all the data. I have often wondered what BM costs to attend. Now that I know, I think I'd rather go to the Caribbean for a couple weeks in an AirBNB , and just watch the BM videos on UA-cam... much less dirty and more civilized.
My girlfriend and I have a paid off RV and we run a generator the whole time it’s warm out.
