      For cinematic Ren, definitely money game 1 & 3 , animal flow and slaughterhouse. They’re fun :)

      Yeah he'll LOVE Money Game 3 and Slaughterhouse for the cinematography aspect. The stories are powerful also. Best of both worlds!

    I could hear renegades all over the world chuckling at scratch😅 as a cinematographer I think you would enjoy the money games trilogy, they can be done individually,be sure to do the lyric vid for part two as it's more complete, and number 3 is the one they won awards for, there's a BTS of it which I think you'll find interesting. Whatever you do we'll be here for it 💙🇬🇧

      I'd actually recommend doing both versions of Money Game 2. With the lyric video you get an extra verse but the live version is better in every other way, imho! :) The poetry really flows and pops out in the live version and his vocals are absolutely exquisite! It's also live Ren, which is always great! :) It always annoys me when imply that the live version is the "wrong" version. I know you haven't done so but there is no "wrong" version. Both are worth watching! :)

    • @Codex7777
      @Codex7777 Годину тому

      @ezrasace The original live version. I love the Sky Arts one too but you could tell he wasn't well on that one and was nervous as well. I'm amazed he managed to perform at all, at that stage, as his health was deteriorating fast. So, I'd recommend the original live version, on the beach. 🙂

    In terms of cinematography his latest video yesterday “Slaughter House” is everything you mentioned about not having a budget…with having a budget.

  • @mikegonzales4199
    @mikegonzales4199 7 днів тому +4

    I think the fact that this was done on a low budget, allowed Ren the perfect amount of space to use his guitar & story telling ability to paint a very vivid picture in the imagination of the viewer. Bravo.

    I'm sure you've heard this before -- there are no coincidences in Ren's art. If he hadn't have wanted those sirens there, they wouldn't have been there. There are faint sirens in several Ren songs, actually. Re: Coincidences or accidents -- Ren goes over everything again and again and again. Every moment is planned. (Although I'm sure he takes advantage of the unexpected, too.) He actually plays the guitar bits repeatedly for hours until he doesn't have to think about it. That's why he can walk and chew gum/sing and play at the same time. What do they say? "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration." Ren works bloody hard on both the songs and the videos. (I feel like this is coming off scolding or something -- sorry, I don't mean it that way. I love your reactions!)

    The Tales of Jenny & Screech were written and performed two years or so before Violet. I agree, you can see growth there. Violet's is the most sophisticated, but Jenny & Screech are delightfully creative, clever, and innovative!

    A Shakespearean tragedy don't quote me the details but I heard when wrote Jenny due to a newspaper article about a 14 year prostitute girl murdered at knife. And the police officer made a quote about it's such a shame. That part of the inspiration is true great reaction I'm glad I found your channel❤

    8:14 Just wait 'til you get to Murderer 😂People called the police on Ren for that one. Thankfully the Brighton Police know Ren and didn't arrest him! His philosophy is to ask forgiveness, not permission.
    Regarding budget, a couple of recent videos Ren has made, Money Game part 3, and then Slaughterhouse had a much bigger budget. They hit in a different way. I like them, but I think I still prefer the type of visuals here, particularly in Violet's Tale. Ren did an interesting interview with Rosalie Elliott where he talked about his view of money and creativity. Also, Sam Perry-Falvey did an interview with UA-cam reactor and videographer Joe E Sparks that you would probably enjoy.
    I doubt the seagull sounds are an accident. Ren is very intentional about the sound of his videos. At this point he was using a relatively cheap lav mike and had to laboriously go thorough and clean up extraneous sounds and alter levels as he moved this way and that. When you get to busking performances by his former band, the Big Push, you'll be amazed at the sound quality, which was due to Ren and his sound technician skills! Although the tales are supposed to be set in London, they were filmed in Ren's hometown of Brighton, which is on the south coast of England, so seagulls are a common sound there. You'll also hear them in his retake of the Verve's Bittersweet Symphony (he wrote his own lyrics to their tune), and a cello imitation of seagulls in the live version of the same.
    Jenny and Screech came out fairly close together, and then Violet a couple of years later. You can see the evolution in both Sam and Ren's work. Ren's written another trilogy of tales, but was filming one of them recently when he had a flare up of his illness and had to go to hospital during the shoot and abandon filming. Hopefully he can recover and get another chance to film soon.
    Ren would probably have been a more commercial artist if he had never got ill. He was part of a band called Trick the Fox as a teenager, and they got a recording contract, but he wasn't able to finish due to his health issues. He later took the songs recorded and some written during his illness and published them as his first album, Freckled Angels. The song Satellite Girl is very pop.
    Ren (or Sam? I can't remember) has said that this was the second take of Violet's tale, though they did quite a few takes. Looking forward to your take on the Money Game series. Part one is an even more intricate dance with the camera.

  • @Dstinii

    Ren has a fantastic history of busking with The Big Push and some of those performances were filmed and on youtube. He also did get a contract with a record company when he was younger but he grew too ill and that relationship ended. You are looking for recommendations...hmm... Ren told us Renegades to check out an artist named Dirt Miller. He works with a fantastic cinematographer and you'd probably really like the look of his videos. And there's always Chinchilla, who always brightens up the screen and our eardrums. Enjoy everything Ren related and the Reniverse he introduces to you. Oh, for one more one-take video I'd suggest Ren's Animal Flow. You will see influences there from literature and film. (I can't tell you which ones because I want you to catch them!)

    Great analysis!! Most people, including me, have to watch a lot of Ren videos to realize he's doing these on virtually no budget. Before MONEY GAME 3 (about a year ago) Ren had never spent more than 1,000 pounds on a video and most were shot for much less. Some like CRUTCH and POWER had a budget of zero. The budget for VIOLET'S TALE was 50 pounds. Amazing what you can do with a camera and galactic level talent.
    (Ren has said he likes to practice like crazy, then shoot usually 15-20 perfect takes, then chooses the one he likes best. There was a take at the end of VIOLET'S TALE where it started to rain, which Ren thought was a perfect effect, but he liked the totality of this take better, so we get seagulls, but no rain.)

    I enjoyed your reaction I think you can appreciate his natural, raw talent! It doesn’t take a large commercial budget to execute a vision that starts from an idea whether it be personal or from other people’s stories it just has to come from the Heart ❤️ to grab people’s attention.

    Ren has about 250 distinct songs, between himself and the bands he's been a member of. I'm quite sure you haven't been recommended all of it.
    But if you want more cinematic Ren, the Money Games trilogy is good (though part 2 is a lyric video). Also, Animals Flow is another great 1-take video with great scene setting and camera work.

    I really like to watch a film maker's perspective with Ren. I saw your expressions and recognized them ... I have done community theater since I was a kid and when I go to professional productions, I always check the light set up, I wonder what's happening backstage right before the curtain goes up and imagine it's similar to what happens in my own theater, I watch the pit, the stage crew maneuvering, etc., and sometimes it takes me out of the moment. But also, it's just a different kind of moment than other people experience. Lol. Fiddler On The Roof is one of my favorite musicals, and I've played Golde, the female lead before. I always see professional productions when they are here and I remember being so pissed off that (IMO) Golde was being played as a screeching harpy, Tevye was flat, like he'd done it a million times before and was bored, and the final straw was Fruma Sera (a vengeful ghost) came out with her face and neck done in ghost makeup, but not her hands. I was so aggravated I left. Lolol. It's a different kind of attention we pay, but just as close. I knew when you started smiling at an 'inappropriate' time in the story that you were seeing something completely different than most. Some people will be disappointed that there was no 'gotcha' moment when it was revealed that Jenny & Screech were twins, but there was ... it was just a small expression of, "Oh. I see where this is going." I was watching for it. Film makers usually catch it before others. Nicely done!

    So I watched an interview where they said money game one was a one take. Money game two is a lyric video. Money game three is in a one take fashion, but I think they may have had two cuts in that video. Still totally amazing. You should also check out his video Crutch. I think it’s underrated but it’s definitely a video that I love.

    Jenny and Screech's Tales were shot relatively close together. Violet's Tale was filmed over a year later and was uploaded to UA-cam in 2019, thus the year of 2005 in Violet's Tale for Jenny and Screech to be 14 years old. Ren takes several takes and chooses the best one. For Violet's Tale, Ren had 20 shots and used the 2nd one for UA-cam. If a person had come up or shouted out of a window at them, they would start over from the beginning.
    I would suggest reacting to The Big Push "I Shot thr Sheriff, Road to Zion, Hip Hop" (red suspenders) for a different feel to Ren's musical ability.
    I love your bringing a videographer's view to your reaction. Thank you.....also, you can stop a lot more frequently with Ren's videos as we like to hear what you are thinking at the time. So much is forgotten if you wait until the end.

    Quick note, ren intentionally didn't use any artificial lighting they wanted the street lights only to make things authentic if you look above there is a second story apartment and you can see someone watching I heard a man yelled shut the f up and they just began again.❤

    Check out Chinchilla's 1:5! Ren and Chinchilla have worked together. But the reason I mention it, it is a 'live video ' but you see five cuts! I was told that she became overcome with emotion and had to stop and recover from choking up. It's definitely worth it! I am a musician myself and there are songs I can not perform bc I tear up and lose control over my voice!

    When you do MONEY GAME PT. 2 make sure and choose the OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO and not the LIVE version. The LIVE version is only 1/3 of the entire song with no music. (The MG series is also not interconnected, so you can react to them separately, which I recommend, because they are so dense with art and ideas. Analyzing all 3 together will be a VERY long video.)
