My spinster Aunt Mary worked at Chrysler HQ in Highland Park Michigan until the late 1960s. She was tired of underpowered rides and wanted a car with some "Zip". She bought a new '63 383 4bbl pushbutton auto, same color combo as this sick '64. She knew my brother and I washed the family cars every Saturday morning at our parents home and would conveniently stop by to have the Dodge cleaned. What a beast of a car. In '67, she traded the Dodge for a new Maroon Dart GT, another MOPAR beast. Needless to say, my brother and my favorite aunt.
These came with factory exhaust cutouts! No choke, no vacuum advance, no heat riser. Factory blueprinted for racing, went through a quart of oil every hundred miles or so brand new. 1964 was the first year for the 4 speed, that made the Mopars unbeatable in the both Super Stock Automatic and stick shift classes.
NASCAR out lawed Plymouth in 1971 , the winged Road Runner was too fast and the first ''stock car'' to break 200 mph on some of the NASCAR tracks back then.

My sister had a '64 dodge that looked just like that. Of course hers had a slant six, and could barely get out of its own way. But It looked just like that
Here is the thing that most of the young viewers do not realize. Probably about 1963, but for sure by 1965, the auto insurance companies started charging such high premiums for muscle cars, that it was very discouraging for a young person to drive one on the street. I had a new GTO in 65, and my friend had a 63 FI Vette. The premiums for insurance were more than the payments for the cars. Really super high performers (like the Chrysler products shown here, or the race ready Chevy's, Pontiacs, and Fords) were simply not in the cards due to very limited production (you pretty much had to prove you were a racer to get one), and the insurance costs were insane. Today, a grandmother can go order any number of cars that would have blown most of them away. Funny to me.
May, 1964 was the transition month for the hemi. This car is correct with either engine but this one should have a hemi in it with that hood. Sounds good.
Anybody could stick a big engine in a small car and go fast Chrysler put a big engine in a big car and beat their ass almost every time that is one great car.
I still do it today, I remember the days before any safety crap. My 68 firebird would start in gear, happened a couple times, to this day I always check multiple times. 1990 ZR-1 corvette
Even a 64 13:1 Max Wedge @ 425HP would struggle to keep pace with the 13:1 Race Hemi, originally rated @ 425HP, NHRA rated them at 540-560HP & very quickly after their release cars like the Black Arrow were making about 600HP!
My first car was a '64 coronet 440 with a 318 2bbl zig zag motor. It had pushbutton automatic with 318 poly. You could pull start these cars because the automatic transmissions had a front and rear pump.get rolling about 40mph, mash "D" fire right up!
That is far out! I've never seen a 1964 without the inner high beam headlights in the grill. (1)--Does it still have high and low beams? (2)--Also....I noticed no wipers. Are those 2 things factory deleted?
Also on top of the grill being rare as mentioned it most likely also had aluminum front fenders and there was also a aluminum bumper option as well as radio/heater delete with the Super Stock Dodge .

candymatic.
I had a '64 Polara 500 convertible 426 wedge 4 speed. I'd sell my first-born to have that car back.
NASCAR out lawed Plymouth in 1971 , the winged Road Runner was too fast and the first ''stock car'' to break 200 mph on some of the NASCAR tracks back then.

And your first born would say,,,,,"I would sell the old man for it!"
Mine was the pushbutton automatic, It was my first car. I bought it in 1975 when I was 15yr old, I paid $159.50 for it (after much haggling).
That push button auto was hysterical and great for making out .... No stick in the way ....still a torqflite ...
I've watched this video way too many times and I shed a tear every time -- Oh good heavens what a car!
Beautifil Dodge!!! Worth a bundle and then some. If I had this car I'd never let it go.

Love how cars with high compression engines fight the battery with that slow cranking. Really nice car even with the Hemi scoop
My grandpa had a 64 with a 413 wedge. Sounded like that. Beast. Mopars ruled
My uncle had a 413.
That's a cool rare beast of a mopar omg love it
I had one just like it, well mine was a 4 door. 318 big block, same color. I miss that car.
I jump started one of these wedge moter cars back years ago. When it started I had a new found appreciation for these.
Max wedge headers are amazing!
Max wedge putting on in 71 Charger!
Love the steel wheels!
What a absolute gem!
Wow that's super fantastic , love it!
As they would say in China, Sum Ting Wong! It is a Max wedge with a Hemi hood scoop
That's the proper scoop on it.
Wrong. The max wedge had a double scoop and the Hemi a single inlet like the one on this car.
My sister had a '64 dodge that looked just like that.
Of course hers had a slant six, and could barely get out of its own way.
But It looked just like that
Great looking car, the engine sounds amazing. I which that guy would shut up
Beautiful !

Blappitty-blappitty-blappitty! *Evil Engine!*
That would command a hefty dollar to buy.💰💰💰💰
May, 1964 was the transition month for the hemi. This car is correct with either engine but this one should have a hemi in it with that hood. Sounds good.
Love It!!
This one seems to have the Hemi hood and front grill. Max Wedges had different hood scoops and front grills
"Look no further.."
*looks further*
Damn! A Max Wedge! Sweet!
The cam is wild.
Anybody could stick a big engine in a small car and go fast Chrysler put a big engine in a big car and beat their ass almost every time that is one great car.
That car would look good in my collection
I dunno man... it sounds pretty healthy to me
back in 64 you wouldnt let your son take this out on a saturday night.. no way
The Wedge is where its at!
You notice how he grabs the gear shifter more than once to see if it was out of gear?
I still do it today, I remember the days before any safety crap. My 68 firebird would start in gear, happened a couple times, to this day I always check multiple times.
1990 ZR-1 corvette
I still do on cars at work though manual is almost rare now
Manual choke as well.
I had both and the Dodge was aluminum (beer can) the wedge just could not stay with the Hemi on the big end.
A Dream Car!
I had one just like it, except it was a Ford.
Even a 64 13:1 Max Wedge @ 425HP would struggle to keep pace with the 13:1 Race Hemi, originally rated @ 425HP, NHRA rated them at 540-560HP & very quickly after their release cars like the Black Arrow were making about 600HP!
This car has 650HP
@@johnmastrogiovanni5484 Here is another one with 650 HP & a 4-speed .
Make way for the king!
“Max wedge” is just so funny to me.
I'd like to know a bit more about the interior. Is it original?
Nice 👍
Beautiful car , wrong hood scoop for a max wedge. That’s the hemi scoop
The car was built my bob mosher. Know one ever said it was a real 426 MAXWEDGE.
Couldn't spin the tires at least a little ?
😎👍😎
Hemi scoop and grill
That’s a Hemi hood scoop though.

Muscle car? No man. This a factory drag car.
That 64 dodge could eat a 64 gto
My dad has a 65 Coronet with a 426 wedge.
I had one when I was a kid dark blue
I will sleep much better tonight, knowing that.
Precioso!!!?
cool car , should add more info , and is it original hemi ? or a clone ?
Do you not know anything? It's a Max Wedge most likely a 426, no not a hemi 426.
Read the description....426 Max Wedge
I wonder if that car had the original interior?
What? No engine views?
That is far out! I've never seen a 1964 without the inner high beam headlights in the grill.
(1)--Does it still have high and low beams?
(2)--Also....I noticed no wipers. Are those 2 things factory deleted?
A990 had only 2 head lights, the grill is very rare,
Also on top of the grill being rare as mentioned it most likely also had aluminum front fenders and there was also a aluminum bumper option as well as radio/heater delete with the Super Stock Dodge .
@@jhanlon1903 that grill is a modified stock grill , that was what they did the the original race hemi cars also .
Awesome, where did it go to?
Wish the guy would be quiet.
Look no further ! Looking for another color .!
Yeah, but is the interior original?
All original?
Is it all original?
That’s a Super Stock car, not a muscle car...
Give you 3000 for it
Original ?
That's "stick", not.64.dodge."sick"!!!!!!!!!.
Would have been nice to see it go down the road maybe do a Bernie people are so afraid of blowing their engines when they can buy 10 more just like it
Can you say Bondo?....unless it was stored in a vacuum, no way....
Every one is an expert.
I have 64 Marauder, 52K miles and 0 bondo.
Those rear axles ain't original...
I'm not looking
