I wanted to buy a 1980 Pinto panel wagon from a guy about 25 years ago. It was in nice shape even the paint was pretty good. All it needed to actually drive it was a transmission. It was a 4 speed manual or could easily be converted to an automatic. It was a cool little car orange/ wood sticker on the sides. Had a little round moon window in the upper rear corner. I offered the guy way more than it was worth at the time $1500.00. He wouldn't sell it because he said that it was his retirement project. Yep it's still sitting in the same spot it was 25 years ago. Now it's pretty much worthless and too far gone to do anything with.

Other points of interest: The hole to the right of the park brake release knob was for the manual choke pull. The voltage regulator on the firewall is usually mounted where the two ground wires are, but had to be moved towards the center of the car to clear the air filter on the rear carb in a Max Wedge application. Dash cluster is completely wrong as well.

My dad would be shitting his pants right now. This is the kind of cars he loved to build. He always wanted something different. Maybe that's why I want to build a 63 A body wagon with a 354 or 331 Hemi. No one on the block has one of those. I love your channel and wish my dad was still alive to see it. He was a dingsman at the Chrysler plant in Belvidere Illinois. He was a first hire when the plant opened in 65. He fixed what broke on the line. I still have some of the tools he made to fix the cars. I use his plastic hammer to cast bullets. Not what it was intended to be used for but I'm using it. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

I was driving down the highway just cruising along looked over sitting in a yard under a big oak tree was a 65 Dodge Coronet. I couldn't get stopped fast enough so I turned around went back for a closer look. Looked from the road at it for a bit, around these parts way out in the country I've learned not to take it upon myself to get to close, some folks get really upset when you ask about their old cars. I built up my courage and knocked on the door. A teenager came to the door so I ask him, is that car for sale, he said yeah its my dads I said is he home? He said naw he won't be home for a while but it's for sale. I said do ya mind if I look at it. He said sure go ahead. It had flat slicks on the back of it. I pulled the pins and opened the hood, cross ram with two four barrels & 426 Super Stock on the valve covers. The kid said i think he wants $500 for it. I said ok I'll wait in my truck till he gets here. So I went to the truck waited for a while and my wife started bitching about she don't feel like waiting... nag, nag, nag. So I ended up taking her home and went straight back to that house. Someone else bought the car by the time I got back to that location. Now she's my exwife.

Granddaddy had a 63 330. 318, 727, 8.75 posi. It was Aqua Blue...it had Manuel steering and brakes. It did get 20 mpg from home to Washington, DC. But, at 140k, it smoked like a freight train. So, it was parked in 1975. He passed in 1989, and, in 1990 I decided to take a look. When my feet found the ground underneath, it was junkyard bound.

Michael Cook and others who are so negative,,,, this hobby is replete with the old guys who love the history and provenance of cars like this because they were there at some point to witness it.
I was MOMENTARILY HORRIFIED that Uncle Tony had sniffed out the one I know about.... very similar situation, but different property. I have been respectfully asking about this one since 1995. I am close to finding common ground with the fellow, but when he hears mean ass punks talking like they do on here, he turns away, knowing they don't have the code of respect necessary to do the right thing in traffic, let alone with his rare old Max Wedge.
For those who think that car can't be saved, you need to either watch Mark Worman and the boys get after one of these, or Chris Birdsong doing sheet metal work on B bodies out in the desert.
Well worth getting up early to get spooked by Uncle Tony. SO glad it wasn't the one I know about!!
I will share with you Uncle Tony, when I get this one in captivity.
      Keep the faith.

@@patrickwayne3701 Negative? WTF is wrong with you? I never said a word about the car Uncle Tony found...not one. Granddaddys car had been off the road a year before I started driving. It was way gone because it had sit with flat tires for 10 years before I was able to see if it could be saved. By the way, there was a 1966 Coronet, with 58k original miles...which was Grannys since new. Granddaddy drove it, 150 miles round trip, adding 30k to it. No rust, not a speck. I still do not understand your jackass attitude.

    • @patrickwayne3701

@@michaelcook768 'junkyard bound', THATS where my jackass attitude comes from. Even IF you lack the skillset to save that old car, many others out here in the world COULD save it. Junkyard is a longtime word in our lexicon, and JUST like other terms that have become unacceptable in our new age, I take exception to the use of it, same as I do the 'N' word and anti semitic rhetoric.
It's possible, Mr. Cook, that I broke out of my cage on the negative comments and included you in my rant because yours was the last comment I absorbed before my cup ran over,,, IF thats the case, I would offer a genuine apology, because from our spot on the Ohio river bank, to Mackinaw City Michigan, My family vacationed in a white '64 Polara two door hardtop that got 20 mpg, out of it's polyheaded 318 pushbutton automatic and it STILL does today.
My Dad didn't have the skillsets to repair its floorboards, but I did, after going to schools that exposed me to the training necessary to begin the learning.
It just hurt my heart to hear you so easily let the car that carried you and yours, go to a salvage yard rather than to sell it to someone who cared to save it.
I been hanging around in garages where guys like Don Garlits were firing up freshened up Hemis after getting home from the Gatornationals. In his Mom and Dads garage, off of Hwy 574 in Seffner.
I didn't get to watch that happen, by being a smartassed mouthed punk. I showed respect, and thus, didn't get shooed away.
All the know nothings who are bad mouthing the 'mystery guest' know nothing about his life, so their dumbass negativity would get them an ass full of buckshot on his property, or mine, in a proper world.
I kept my Dad's cars, AFTER going and finding them and buying them back. Its STILL a work in progress, but I keep working at it. AND I still have my Grandparents 66 Monaco that they bought when it was just 5 months old and traded back in on the new 67's.
I am not in the old guy's age group, but I honor him and others like him, for keeping the stuff around, instead of shoving it off to the junkyard.
