    Wow. Always wonder why Jamaica is such a unique place. The people always think out side the box. Really love the Jam One Sound System Federation Builders. This is so informative and educational. Thanks for sharing.

    I used to help build the amplifiers as a boy in Jamaica. We used to use vacuum tubes at that time. I think I could still build those amps although I've been away from that for years.

    Just back from yard.
    Traveled all over the island at christmas and could not find a dance outside like in the past.
    What a crying shame police stop soundsytems from setting up on street corners like back when people came to dance and hold a brew.
    Soundsystem is just like dog...It is fi yard...OUTSIDE summting, not indoor where you cannot really test those tweeters and 16’’ bass bins.
    Am I glad I grow up well listening to real rock studio 1 reggae. What dem ah play now can’t really test those speaker box.
    Yu need real instrument. Still, People like Chronixx and Proteje keeping it real inna yard, to name two stars...
    Nuff respect to this man fi keepin’ soundsystem building alive.

      high(1300-up) ,high-mid(400-1300), mid(200-400), kick(90-200), sub(30-90), just to give you an example, ofc depending on what cabinets your are using, the crossover fqs are different

      @@Pookytroll Your almost right but if you're talking about reggae music then I would say 30 - 40hz on the Subs alone, that is a must for Reggae/Dub. I think i speak for every Soundsystem in Jamaica.

    • @Pookytroll
      @Pookytroll 5 років тому

      Iran Dixon well, you must be right, but i was giving a random example, any system has its own settings depending on what music it plays and the type of speaker cabinets

    HOW ABOUT MERRITONE?

  • @belizesuperstar

    I would like to know how they compare to Bose and Cerwin Vega speakers.

    • @richmck007
      @richmck007 5 років тому +1

      B Real Ha Ha !
      Totally different thing.
      You would not put this in a auditorium for opera or classical music in the same way you could not have Bose, Keff, Bowers & Wilkins or any of those high end brands on a street corner blasting out basslines or screeching tweeters.
      Totally different ball game.
      Soundsystems were invented for outdoor. The mobile disco sound is not high end material.
      Remember when DIN 4500 stood for something in the world of quality made High Fidelity sound.
      Soundsystems would use valve amps and build speakers because these brands from the UK , USA and Sweden or Finland for example manufactured hi end gear for classical music listeners in the first place and theatre.
      All indoor listening. Outdoors was the ultimate test for sound engineers as is the studio when crafting a sound.
      Sadly, as we get older, we appreciate it more but our ears can no longer hear what we should...

    • @belizesuperstar
      @belizesuperstar 5 років тому

      @@richmck007 great explanation, thks. I ask bc I notice when I go to concerts I do see hi-end manufactured speakers. I do understand that setup wont give you the same sound as a sound system, but I figured if setup differently, I could. I was wondering, "if" you have the money, why not stack up on some cerwin Vega low's (18's), mid's (15's) and High's, and some 3way's, etc.. I would have thought that that would give you the best sounding sound around. Again, "if" you had the capital to invest in such high quality speakers.

    • @Yagga97
      @Yagga97 5 років тому

      B Real Based on wat I’ve seen so these sound systems are built differently from Bose and CV. These are built to reproduce frequencies differently than 3 way systems. Like u see the boxes for tops will have the mids the horns and tweeters that’s bc the tweeters can play the higher end that the horns won’t get to. And the bass are in different boxes to throw sound further same as the tops. Don’t get me wrong other brands have made speakers to throw sound far but this is just more common in a Jamaican or even in a Caribbean sound system. U won’t see things like 4 or 5 way systems in a concert or hall bc these systems are just built to play music loud and throw sound. What I mean is that 3 way systems seem to work the best for things like live applications. Some of the same components are being used in these systems but u won’t see like concert equipment in them now at least to an extent. Brands like eminence jbl selenium b&c 18sound and rcf can be used but only the best products because the watts ur pushing these speakers u need the quality to deliver. U won’t get the same sound from a high quality speaker from a low quality speaker. Same with power amps too. I’m not only basing this on Jamaican sound system but also wat I have seen in Trinidad and Tobago. And the system u just described there wouldn’t be a bad sounding system it would sound pretty nice it’s just a lot of Jamaicans or Caribbean people build all their enclosures to custom designs. It’s also kind of hard to get sum of the goodies they have in the states or uk to bring them down at least for Trinidad I can speak of.
