DMS, please don't take this the wrong way, your conclusion is that "I love this headphone, I bought this headphone I'm gonna be keeping this headphone", yet on the Headphone show's 'The Giant Headphone Tier List' video you rank this headphone as 'how did it happen', now I genuinely hold no allegiance to no particular headphone, I have many on rotation and my favourite can change sometimes depending on my mood, amp/dac combo of the day etc, so I'm not here to wave the Grado flag, but I do think it undeserving of it's ranking purely based on this video you made, it just doesn't add up.
The sodium light background though, it was nice, and pleasing to the eyes.
Yellow gel but yeah. Now he just needs a half stop more exposure for his 'key' light so his face stands out just a touch more.
The video work though it's certainly more than good enough though for what he's doing
grado cables do be hilarious still, they're thick as a vacuum cord.
and completely ridiculous since when you see the tiny thin wire they use to connect to the drivers.. it's so funny. lol
@@cchkuan my grado 125e's have a god damn hose plugged into em and hearing the actual cable is so small has tilted me
@@cchkuan True. My SR80i broke because of that.
they are thick to hold insulators to prevent noisy signals when using higher gain
I have been using some of their headphones for over 10+ years... Never had a problem with their cable! Their pads...no such luck!
Been hyped for this review ever since I've seen it on the Google spreadsheet headphone ranking!
Thank you for your measurement graph explanation! I finally understand how to read these now. Great job!
I really love the aspect ratio and how it completely fills up my phone's screen in landscape. Overall, the production on this video is next-level.
Now that's how to do measurement reviews, really nice format.
The different extension levels whilst the headphone was lying on the table were distracting as heck though haha.
The bit starting at 13:00 was amazing. I wish more reviewers would use a large screen and point to things on it. Super easy to follow.
Loved this, especially the table graph presentation bit. Hope to see that in upcoming videos too :)
One of the best headphone reviews I've ever seen on UA-cam. Kudos!
Love the way you used your hands to discuss FR. Great review, you've just sold them to me.
His hands, you mean to say 👋🏼
Love the revew and the new style! More of this please!
I think this is the best review of a Grado I've ever watched and maybe of your channel. Keep up the great work!
Fantastic review! Really liked the format and style a lot more than most reviews I've seen from others
huge fan of SR325x, but the comfort of the stock pads is atrocious, luckily there's ton of aftermarket and custom options, I went for nyczaj audio EP01 earpads with memory foam inserts and they feel fantastic and don't distort the sound at all. I've also modded them with aluminum gimbals and thick leather headband, also from nyczaj audio. they're my favourite daily driver since then.
only original pads from Grado that are tolerable is G-cushions otherwise it is pain to use but John Grado dont care about customers opinions so yea...
Damn, cranking the production value upto 11 I see . Great work as always!!
Ikr, so much more production value than Grado puts into their products build.
I am so glad that you like these headphones. Grado are such a polarizing brand. I love the 325e, and especially the RS2e
I definitely enjoyed the improvement in quality, great video!
Love the new format. It somewhat feels more complete.
Best review iv seen from you . What sealed the deal was the H.O.G hands over graph lol perfect way to visualise the voice and really cemented it as a must buy for me with the s pads I think but I'll buy them all just incase my intuition is wrong thanks dude appreciate the work you do very technical but not snobby perfect in my opinion
Great review DMS, I really like the change.
I love the top-down graph view! Super cool.
Wow! What a substantial step up in production (apart from the small things that still need to be sorted out) and work for this review. It was absolutely worth the effort, DMS. I really liked it. Keep it up!
I got a pair on the say so of this video. Dude, you were bang on. As for comfort I do not have any issues at all. I only use headphones indoors for a limited time ( 2hrs max but mostly less) but the time spent wearing them was fine, though I did buy some pads as I had heard others complain about the stock pads. But haven't felt the need to use them....yet! Great review, many thanks!
Great review. Really nice analysis of frequency spectrum with different pads. I have old 325is headphones with G style pads and this helps explain why they sound some dramatically different than the stock pads they replaced.
I love the anchor chain Grado uses in a non removable cable!
Really Really like your new Format. I feel like I attended a master class on how to evaluate the SR-325X. Well Done!
Nice video, nice setup, really liked the measurement curve explanation. Super curious to try these grado X (or the hemp). Thanks!
The new review style is fantastic.
Glad to hear that the new Grado X series is pretty positive, though that cable twist would drive me nuts. Fortunately none of mine have a twist that bad, and I take care not to get them twisted up.
Ive been using my 125X religiously for the last 3 weeks and the cable does loosen up and unkinks significantly (as did the vacuum E series, which by now is so nice). Zeos briefly mentioned this years ago in a Grado review about how the pads need to be broken in, and thats the thing with Grados: ear pads, headband, cord all get a lot better with use.
I thought I was the only one that had this issue. Love the sound but hate the cables and the cheap pads that disintegrate and leave bits in your ears.
So i watched this video, saw this comment and bought myself a pair of these and I can confirm, they had a cable twist when i got them and after a few weeks it is almost completley gone. I love these and i would highly reccomend them.
Love this review. Everything about it.
The PITA cable on my SR80es has lasted 9 years and counting. That's a pretty good run in my home studio. Currently waiting for Aazon to bring replacements for my worn out pads - should be here today. They still sound better than anything else I have. Around $100 is my usual price point for headphones, and I have AT, AKG, SONY, Samson, Senheiser., Chinese no-name,... For price, sound, and and durability, Grados have been the best. If I were to upgrade to the $300 range, I would definitely go with Grado.
This was an excellent video bro. I appreciate how in-depth you went with everything even though it took up more time. I also loved your frequency response comparison section and thought it was very thorough in showing pad differences and especially comparing other reviewers' target curves. Very good direction imo.
Great review, engaging, clear, structured, subjectivist AND objective analysis of FR. Great feel for the gear AND for the intended target listeners. A natural performance. Total success. Loved it.
the callout to other reviewers is fun, gives me a reason to come back and check later
Sorry I'm seeing this so long after it coming out but I just want to say that this new style of review was very interesting and informative, I very much enjoyed it.
Thank you...
Pulled the trigger on these early. Great headphones to take for a walk, as they sound fine off an iPhone dongle. Sound profile is very rough, in a nice way. If I want to sit down and have a detailed listening experience, I would reach for a 6xx over this, but this headphone makes random tracks sound exciting in a way the 6xx doesn't. Perfect contrast for a headphone like that, as it offer very a different listening experience with similar technical performance.
Got my 325 X a week ago
Was money well spent
All audio gear is subject
To t trade offs and the engineers
Have to decide were to cut corners
To meet a price point
And grado did a great job
In. On where to cut corners
And bring us the best sound for the price
This is the best review I've seen on your channel. Cheers.
I have these and I love the sound, especially against the 125x, which can be shrill to the point of pain-inducing. I had to get a couple of paint pens to reapply the silver paint that rubs off the embossed text after a month or so.
Big fan of the new style of presentation. The B roll works well, the talking head looks great, the pacing is interesting
Visually, your video was luscious. Informationally, it was abundant and helpful. Your style is among the best on UA-cam.
Thanks Bill! I really appreciate it.
I bought the SR325e for 295 € last week and I am very impressed with the sound !
Really good review. I appreciate the measurements.
Thank you for this video. I did notice though that the top left of the measurements screen shows Grado SR-352 X rather than 325X.
Great review, the new style of it is great!
Brilliant review! Very enjoyable and rich.
Great review I really like this style of video. I purchased the Hemps and I love them so much. My GF liked them so much that she wanted a pair of grado's as well and she is not into headphones or HiFi for that matter. She did not like the price of the Hemps and liked the black rather than the metal so she got herself the sr-225x. I have hard time on some of the tracks to tell the two apart however on some songs the hemp is just so much better. But looking at price to performance she got herself quite the bargain. Specially because she got a discount as well from the dealer as compensation for a small mistake they made. On a side note I prefer the old cable the braided one is even more annoying hopefully it softens up a bit over time.
Im so glad you gave the S Cushion its due. A lot of people throw the big cup G Cushions on Grados and I used to, until i realized the S Cushions were tighter, more detailed, a little narrower but a little warmer. The G pads offer a tremendous spacious experience tho, but at the expense of unpleasant sharpness compared to the S. And aftermarket Yaxi Pads are a BIG no, theyre horrible with Grados. The stock S Cushion, once you get used to the sound on your ear, is the best. Josh Valour also pointed that out I think too
I have 80, 125 and 325 e ... and I use G and S all the time... worth having both versions...
Finally thumbnail game is on point🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 . Great video
Most interesting for me are brand new RS1x & RS2x, wood and hemp mixed and looking good, if I knew sooner that they exist probably would have waited but now I own RS1e 😅
Great review. I bought some. Really surprised by how great these are. Plenty of bass. Using the Geekria G-Cush pads
Best review I've heard in a long time. Thank you. Questions...have you tried the Grado L-cushion pads? And do these headphones differ significantly from the Grado 325e?
Really enjoyable and informative, thanks.
Pads really do change the tuning the Beautiful Audio’s Large hybrid pads which would be their take on a G pad. In addition to comfort presents a very wide sound stage. The small hybrid pad delivers a more focused sound presentation but far more comfortable and a larger sound stage then then stock F pads. I find both pads tuning highly preferable to the stock sound.
nice review!! thats the reality of grado headphones!!
Fantastic review, so much detail. I hate the stock F pads, even though I loved the way they sounded straight out of the box. I was on the verge of sending them back and stick with my Sundaras. But I decided to give them one more go and try the G pads. With the bigger sound stage and (I felt) better detail, I found the Grados really came alive for me. I did end up finding them a little too sibilant at times, so I got the Geekria equivalents and they have turned out to be my ideal solution. I love the sound with these pads. They're not quite as deep, just touching my ears in a couple of places, but I find them very comfortable, the sound stage feels just as big and they reduce the sibilance, whilst the bass is just where I like it. I tried the F pads again after getting these and really didn't like the sound anywhere near as much. I guess one advantage/disadvantage with Grados is that you can alter them to something you like, even if it means ending up with a different sounding product than was intended.
The cable is still a pain in the arse, though.
they get even better with nyczaj audio EP01 pads, they have the same effect on the sound as you described with Geekria G-pads, but thanks to memory foam the comfort is through the roof. tried nearly a dozen different pads and these win so far.
Just got the RS1x on demo. They are the most energetic & entertaining headphones I’ve heard and I’ve owned quite a few of the top dogs
Comes across as very similar to the Hemp. With them, the S pad sorted the response and the Dragonfly Cobalt made them sing.
Love mine with the G pads.
Mine came with the cable crossed just above the Y splitter, which is very helpful and I don't have to play around with it. I wonder if this is how they now assemble the cable or was this a random coincidence which worked out well. I did have a problem with the SR125 cable twisting.
I've always loved my original RS-1's on my Mapletree tube amp. However all my Grado's are broke (SR-80, 225, and RS-1). Every cable failed inside the Y split. :(
Ever think you're gonna do a tube rolling guide for the Little Dot Mk2?
Thank you for your heaphone list.
How badly would the sound be affected if plugged into an iPhone XR using the lightning adapter?
Amazing review, I'm really interested in getting these or the HEMP. What are he main differences between both? Which ones are smoother on the ears? Thanks!
I have the original from Engineer John at CES(deceased and not mentioned on their website.) Clarity was great to evaluate equipment, but after an hour caused ringing and ear fatigue. Later a review found a resonance at 7 K. This being the 4th generation, if you sweep with an oscillator manually, are their any
obvious resonance peaks on a scope which shorten ones listening time. I find I am happy with my HE 400S and HE Sundara, but wonder about also getting a recent driver headphone. All the current reviewers are hung up with the curves which do not pinpoint driver problems. And all seem to do eq after they have looked at the curves, not from scratch listening. Changed the Sundara pads to the Z recommended Dekoni Audio Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin pads which are not physically hot as the original ones.
I have the same twisted cable issue with my. PS500e, the struggle is real. Also, don't waste your time with anything less than G-pads, for both comfort and sound (fakes Gs won't help either).
thank you DMS for the S pad recommendation. much comfier than the stock Fs and, for a metalhead, the sound profile is PERFECTION
Good review, I had the old SR-325 (very old first version, i think second version are e, and these are the third version?). I liked them but never tried a different headband, and always found them too heavy. Just wondered how you found the weight on your head (must have found them OK as you brought them). I like Grado's but just have a plastic cup model at the moment due to the weight of the metal ones, but if I come into some money may try some of the wooden ones.
I appreciate your articulation do describe curtain aspects of the sound of the SR 325x.. I need as flat as possible.. For mixing. I hear how you edit your videos, pretty decen leveling and ducking of frequencies.. What headphones did you use to edit this video?. I am currently listening through sr-80, a very older model that has more definition than most heaphones I own that cost way more..
"Does warmth well, mid range well" As in good separation in these frequencies? These are the most important ranges in to me.
Is the soundstage really that much wider compared to previous generations of Grado SR-325? For example, I have the SR-325e and, with stock pads, I would not say it's a very wide headphone... So is it mainly the pads you're using that are making the SR-325x seem wide or does the SR-325x just have a naturally wider sound than the SR-325e?
Okay, so. How does reducing gain to the tube amp via a pre-amp work? I own a tube amp (ta-26) and am looking at Grado headphones. I do not have a pre-amp, but I can lower the sound via Windows I guess (I use an internal sound card, not usb one)?
I have Grado SR325is.
Is there a difference in sound between these?
I'm enjoying the lights
First class review. Thanks.
The cable kinks work themselves out over a few weeks btw. The cable becomes really nice over time
This thing is not possible, if you say this means that you have never had anything to do with Nylon Sleeves
would be interested in a "10 best headphones to buy 2021" or something like that, low to high end? idk, nice vid tho ofc
Just about a year ago I decided to get into headphone listening. I am an audiophile having MBL101 speakers for my 2 channel system so I am no stranger to high end sound. I originally bought the Audeze LCD 2 and was underwhelmed. I heard a friends Grado SR80 so I gave the SR325x and try. I really like these headphones much more than the LCD2. Having heard good things about the Sennheiser 560S I bought one of these and alas the 325x still comes out on top. Now I am tired of wasting money on headphones. Can anyone recommend a headphone that is better than the 325X without going over $1k? Also what portable dac/amp combo works best with the 325x as I use the Dragonfly cobalt now?
Please when I have Sr325e.. Is reason thinking about x version 325?
Great video , interesting headphones 🍻
On my sr80e I spent over an hour running my fingers over the cable and hitting it with a hot hairdryer in order to remove the kinks.
Are you going to do a review of the gw100 v2 at some point?
still waiting for a kit to fix up my dads old 225, basically everything but the drivers need to be replaced in ordder for it to be comfortable
dude I like the headband mod, not permanent and comfy gonna do that!
These ones are the best for the mids. I remember them being a bit bright? I love Grado though. Such musical cans with engaging fun energy.
they are fun until you hear real deal headphones xD, Grado is good for old songs recorded in old manner otherwise they are lacking in everything
I prefered the old background, i really liked the mesh of blue light and warm light.
Please link to the background music too.
Really like the new vid style
Hi, can I get more comparisons with Hemp pls?
HD 800s to the right 😍
I am probably going to replace my original version 225 with the 325x. In addition to or instead of, what do you think of upgrading the 225 cups, drivers and cable with a diy mod? What forum might be helpful?
Interesting, the frequency response graph changed quite noticeably from the e series. Sad I know I don't need to check coz I remember the e graphs. :D
I like Grado RS2e more than the 325X, but I am glad you found a Grado you really like
So which sound better this or the hemp?
Do you think the Fiio BTR5 would be a good match for the 325x ?🤔
Not much online about the 225X. How do they compare?
Will these work well with Zen Dac/Can ??
does do they sound like the old headphones?
I do love the vids... but why the strange aspect ratio?
As I watch this video, I am wearing my 1997 Grado SR225 headphones. Back then the SR225 was $199. I just ordered the SR325x from Grado. I am very curious as to how the 25 year old SR225 compares to the new SR325x. I sure hope the cord has been figured out. Great review.
