HAHAHAH THIS TOY SHIP GOT SUNK A FEW HOURS AGO...UKRAINE STRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Russian navy comrades please watch the beautiful stars...and NEPTUNES in the sky!
USNI article April 13, 2022 “The Russian Navy’s Black Sea flagship has suffered major damage and the crew has abandoned the ship, state media said late Tuesday in reports following Ukrainian claims of hitting the ship with a missile strike. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the mishap on RTS Moskva (121), a ship in the country’s Black Sea Fleet, according to state-run outlet TASS.”
As an audio technician it is hilarious to me to imagine an army and navy tooling around using technology 30+ yrs old. Think hi-fi cassettes and DOS operating systems. I know it has been modernized, but apparently was still way behind in EW and Radar. Just bristling with missiles like a floating ammo dump, max speed 60 kph. The fact that their 90s Radar was distracted by a UAV is instructive. These massive targets with rapidly aging systems will not be able to keep up with modern hybrid warfare. As an organist and owner of a woodstove you can trust my thoughts on this.
This has been a point of contention with some naval enthusiasts today who think battleships like the USS Iowa & New Jersey should be reactivated for shore bombardment missions. Besides the complexity of updating systems for which parts & expertise are mostly no longer available, they will also be well within range of land-deployed antiship missiles.
Exactly what I was thinking, almost a joke. Powerful 30mm CIWS' that can get distracted by flies, and not Radar Track subsonic cruise missiles. All we have to do to Russian warships is use cheap drone swarms.
It is so funny reading all the old comments before it was sunk talking about how mighty the Russian navy is and how Moskva will destroy any NATO and US ship. If they only knew....
Wow, to see this great ship come into port under such great conditions. The setting sun was spectacular. What a great end to the day. Wish I could of been there. Thanks for the post.
You are sort of right. The notion is that Russia sits most of its Navy, in what we would call the Reserves. They only deploy most of their ships about a month or two a year. That allows them to have a bigger Naval Reserve force than the US. Bigger force but less experienced.
The 16 big launchers are for the Sandbox missile. It dates back but a 16 missile salvo is meant to work as one unit in a local area network. It's successor, the Shipwreck (P-700) is even more devastating. Low altitude mach 2.0 plus anti-ship missiles come in fast over the horizon.
Well, No. This warship was built by efforts entire USSR. Only total power of all republics could afford such a thing. But the design was done by PKB Severnoe (ПКБ Северное) in St Pitesburg, which also designed even bigger, Kirov-class battlecruiser. Only PKB Severnoe had such an expertise. And yes Ukrain when it was a part of USSR had a big industrial capacity, which were built by efforts and economy of entire USSR. The same thing about airspace industry, almost all rockets were designed in Moscow & St.Pitersburg e.g. Zenith. Similar history with An-124 (Ruslan) and An-224, it was built by more than 100 factories in Russia, Ukrain, Uzbekistan, and others, all USSR scientist and expertise were involved, it was a result of a great cooperation. And now Ukrain tries to claim that it was her achievement. That would be funny if it wouldn't be so sad. Ukrain lost almost all industrial capacity after USSR dissolution, just because they were part of huge cooperation which gone along with USSR, which is kinda natural.
If you are who you say you are I understand, I remember when the Soviet Union collapsed, Russian ships sat in ports all over and rotted. But I know thats not the case now, I guess Romney was right.
