I had bacterial meningitis as a kid, I'm lucky my mom was a nurse and recognized my symptoms were meningitis right away. I had a terrible headache, with nausea and vomiting. My back was locked up for weeks where I couldn't stand straight. I'm convinced this illness has long term effects, but usa doesn't devote nearly as much research to this as the uk.

So sorry for your loss. I am just starting to hunt around the internet for what to expect after surviving bacterial meningitis. Luckily, I survived. Mine started as an ear infection after a cold. I was really lucky that my wife recognized that something was really wrong and took me to the hospital 12/22/22. Christmas morning, I was getting a surgery to help get rid of some of the infection in my skull. A few days later I was sent home with a PICC line to finish 3 weeks of IV antibiotics. New Years eve I had my first seizure. The next morning the seizures got way worse, I was headed back to the hospital, although I don't remember that. About a week later I was back home. I finished the round of IV antibiotics and withing a day I was really heading down hill. That evening I was headed back to the hospital. Back on IV antibiotics for another 10 weeks and just switched to oral antibiotics about 2 weeks ago. So far so good as far as not getting really sick again. The meningitis is not gone though. The doctors say at least 6 months of oral antibiotics, maybe more.

Question, after all those treatments and years later do suffer from joint pain or osteoarthritis?
