I lived and worked in Yosemite for 6 years. I had the only stone house on the meadow H-115 . Opened my front door and the view was Half Dome. I did many hikes while I was there. One was a full moon hike from Glacier Point to the valley. The place is magical. Best 6 years of my life. Thanks for sharing
Watching you scramble up those boulders and knowing that you have to go back and retrieve your camera, then scramble back up those boulders again, made me appreciate the hard work you put into your videos. Great job!
When my wife and I hiked this trail, in the late 1960s, we started behind the hospital and went up the east side of the creek. About a quarter to a third of the way up we found a series of three steel ladders, bolted to the rocks, that we had to negotiate; the first went straight up, the second was a traverse ladder and the third was straight up. We ran into a fat communications cable which we followed to the top, using it for assistance along the way. Several places the cable was attached to the rocks hanging off the side and that portion of the trail was very sketchy. what I don't remember is whether we crossed Lehamite Canyon and proceeded up Indian Canyon or whether we ascended Lehamite Canyon; we probably went up Indian Creek. The whole time we were on the east side of the creek. We followed the cable up to the North Dome trail and proceeded west to the Yosemite Falls trail for our decent.
It's called the Telephone trail as that's where the Bell Telephone cable from Tuolumne Mdws. comes down to the valley. It's easy to follow and is much nicer than the trail this video follows. It starts directly behind the medical clinic. You just search around for the large black cable and follow it to the top.
Wow. Thanks for the great video. I’ve always wondered what was up there. Also, thanks for mentioning the history of the actual trail. Can hardly wait until you post the next one.
Our parents first took us camping in Yosemite when we were 6,8 and 10 years old. ....that entire canyon is pretty cool......I lived and worked at The Medical Clinic for several years, so that area was always a favorite for short hikes, as well as topping out and hooking up with the Falls trail, as you did........and what a great siting the ringtail cat was......I lived in Camp 4 for several years in the early 80's and they were frequent nightime visitors.....looking for goodies that may have been left out and about......glad to see they are still around.......
Your channel is amazing! Do you ever use USGS 3DEP Hillshade maps to locate abandoned trails before you go in? I'm seeing a strong trail signature hugging the west cliff sides, completely out of the drainage.
Not sure I'll love it, but I am sure I can't help myself. 😅 Anything for some solitude (combined with having to be near the valley for whatever reason). Looking forward to it next visit!
@@civmar1 Yes, the ladder adventure was really cool but it may be damaged by rock fall now. Dunno if you had heard about it but there was a steep section where the cable was hung and you follow a series of ladders bolted to the wall to get past the technical part. After that its a short distance to the falls.
Late June is the worst time to be in the valley along with the rest of summer. Obviously you didn’t go to Yosemite last summer lol. What are you talking about rookie .

Reading John Muir's books he stated that's the way he would go get into the Backcountry before any trail existed

Yeah that’s the alternate route. I would have done that but I wanted to see the actual trail. Thanks for watching
@lanefrank6208 I hiked up the cable trail too - in the 90's. I don't remember the ladders but I probably used them. You have a good memory.

Thanks for sharing, I’m glad people who really have a connection to the park can make a connection with my videos. This is what I live for 😊

Thank you. You did it. Fabulous video❤️☮️
You are so welcome
Another cool video !! Love learning about these historic trails.
More to come!
Outstanding content.
Outstanding trek! I appreciate you sharing this experience!
Glad you enjoyed it!

I haven’t tried it. I’ll check it out. Thanks for watching
Another great Yosemite video! I only wish I were young enough to do some of your hikes. Perhaps this one would be too much regardless of how old I am.

Hike the fern ledge instead. If you haven’t already
Another great video. Do you think there is a better way up the top half if horses could make it?
There was at one time

At least it looks like you were tracking it there.

There was a also an easier way up the creek on ladders fyi
I think I have five or six more trails to do before I try this one. Your estimate of experience in Yosemite is is wise.
After have hiked the 4 mile, the mist trail and upper Yosemite multiple times each…start thinking about this one
It is in shade very early. I've been up to Lehamite Falls several times as there are some quality rock climbs up there on the right side wall..
I needed longer than the morning window.
Did you start at Church Bowl and follow the old telephone cable trace to get there?

Great videos! Have you ever done the diving board?
Yes I have
Just not on video
How many hours did this take you?
The map explanation at the start was confusing.
I know where to find ringtails most nights if you’re interested?
Please tell me

Hey bubba, they have an aluminum ladder section you missed up there bubba. 😂😂😂 come back and I will show you
The point of the video was to not use the ladders bubs. Thanks though
Bushwhacking not good. Social media only going to encourage more bushwhacking and make it ok.
