Differential Scanning calorimetry (DSC) is a very sensitive and powerful technique that gives very detailed information about the thermal properties of a material. In this video, I have shown a detailed method for the calculation of thermodynamic parameters from DSC data using OriginLab software. If you have any questions, ask them in the comment section below. Congratulations for the initiative. Wonderful, beautiful work. Learning and enjoying the sound, thank you.
Nice work!! You earned a subscription.
Its helpful, you earned a subcription. Thanks!
Una vez mas gracias por el tutorial, la canción se quedo como tema musical del canal jeje
@Nanoworld 14:33 why the ratio of column d / column c is multiplied -1 value?
I really thank you a lot, you saved me !!
Hats off sir. Great
I am just having doubt as I am also not having weight column in my data but fixed weight is there, so can I use that same fixed weight at all temperature as in your data your weight is changing with temperatures??? And if we r not getting that column then may be they have already given that heat flow in J/g unit then how to understand that thing???
Very nice video 👍👍
12:30 is important one.
very good Presentation...
Glad you liked it
Hello sir, can you please tell me, how do I calculate glass transition temperature from DSC curve ?
Please post a video on how to calculate different thermal parameters using tga/dtg/dta plot
Hello, I would like to ask if the time used to find the specific heat capacity is the Δt check?
Thank you, thank you and thank you so very much
I am perplexed in the specific heat capacity calculation. First, you need to apply the ASTM - Sapphire method to get a baseline-corrected result. Secondly, I did not understand why you multiplied heat flow by time? In DSC measurements, a fixed temperature rate should be applied. Why did you apply (time/temperature) for each measurement? Is there a specific reason for that?
Hi, great work, thanks for that.
A question, can we determine the activation energy from DSC curve using origin?
Thanks
Hello.... How do u get this weightin mg from DSC .xls sheet... i did not get weight in mg from DSC ...which model DSc intrument is this...can u plz post the machine model name
Hi, great work, thanks for that
sir i have data in heat flow (normalized) W/g and weight %, tempertaure degree celcius. how can I calculate all these parameters using this data
Thank you for the informative video! Is the specific heat capacity calculation performed based on a baseline subtracted DSC data?
Thanks for your very helpful video. I don't know why the heat capacity is based on the intersection of two tangent lines on the Cp-T curve, rather than looking at the corresponding value of the function on the Cp-T curve
The two tangent lines were to determine the temperature at which the thermodynamic events i.e. Fusion and crystallization started.
Once the temperature is defined, then I just directly look to the corresponding value at y-axis for the specific heat capacity.
Nice video. How did you measure the weight here? Because we usually check the weight loss percentage. How the weight is increasing with temperature? Weight should decrease with temperature as there is decomposition of the material but here it is increasing.??
in the sense of the Amorphous one? can you please make another video on it to study amorphous material as well through Calorimetry i-e., finding Tg and fictive temperature etc etc...? thanks in advance
How can we find Glass Transition temperature from DSC curve using origin?
Hello. Thank you for your valuable lessons. May i know how to create DSC graph containing three heating cycles in one plot? I tried alot but could not figure it out. Means i have run three heating cycles (-60 to 200, then -60 to 250 and then -60 to 300C). Will i include the cooling data too or just the heating rate? I am very much confused. Would be grateful if you could help me in this regard.
Fantastic ... Go ahead ....
If sophisticated TGA and DTA for thermal decomposition of solid are not available. How can you construct it locally if quartz, potentiometer, travelling telescope etc are given
A question, why specific heat capacity is directly calculated by (Heat flow*Time)/(Mass*Temp)? It seems like DSC records the heat flow data per 6 second. So itn't it should be calculated by (Heat flow * 6 seconds)/(Mass* delta T), that is Joules within 6 second divided by mass and temperature change?
why don't you use kelvin when calculating the specific heat capacity?
thank you very much. can you please explain why the weight is given in mg but on the graph of specific heat capacity at 25.04 min the unit is in gramm?
I will appreciate it if you explain why the MnO2 melting is exothermic.
Hi, thanks for the video. my y axis is in uV/mg. is there any method that I can convert my y axis to mW/mg?
very nice video but i got stuck in integrating the peak and finding value of Enthalpy. I am using origin pro 8 in this peak analyzer and dialog box does not work as yours. If anybody has idea then please help me out. Thanks!1
which functions you used at 33.38 (to create shade-like lines in the area), 36.09 (to do a snapshot like job of the Cp curve) and 36.14 (to insert that snapshot-ed portion into the main DSC curve)?
Thanks a lot. Great work.
Is it possible to calculate solid fractions with respect to temperature through DSC/DTA curves? Also, please let me know about activation energy determination through DSC plots.
Hi Nanoworld , it's urgent can you please tell me how to convert DTA data from uV to mW as i have to do the dta analysis of a sample how can we predict which salt we are dealing if we have a unkown sample
Excellent video thanks! I just wanted to ask. As you multiplied heat flow data to (-1) the zones of inset and offset must change, right? or am I making a mistake
Como acrescento a linha F(x) no oringin, no meu não tem! Obrigada
wow... thank you
great work; how to calculate activation energy from DSC using origin?
Can this method be used to calculate the specific heat capacity of nano-enhanced phase change material?
Of course yes.
can we choose baseline? then how to choose?
this is so helpful. Can you please help me as I have 3 column data (time, temperature, and heat flow w/g) weight is not provided.
If you don't have a weight column that's OK. A fixed weight will be written somewhere in your data. If fixed weight is also not present (which is not possible) then you should ask the operator about the weight of your sample.
@@nanoworld6122 when the sample is placed in the DSC pan, pan is autozeroed, and then the sample is placed in any modal of DSC machine, it is generally accepted by machine in milligram. thus weight is given by the user for the sample.
Hey can you tell me how to download this software

How to calculate crystallinity?
Very difficult to follow. Would have been great having less distracting music and some spoken information.
Thank you for the suggestion
