I’m envious of - or perhaps, it’d be better to say *I admire* - your brush control and your color theory. My only real *talent*-talent is writing and languages generally, but I’ve been drawing since I was five and I started dipping into painting when I was eight or nine (my aunt and uncle owned an art supply store, so my ‘70s and early ‘80s childhood was defined by free art supplies when I was in the U.S., and getting set up to take lessons from working artists, all of which I alas took for granted), and I enjoy it, but I have to really labor at it … like, just your preliminary sketch would’ve taken me four or five hours. This is really excellent, I love the movement of the finished product; there’s flow but also turmoil, it’s just great.
Understanding that you’re likely super-busy, so no hard feelings at all if there’s no reply, but I’m curious: for the preliminary sketch, did you choose that sort of … I dunno, on my monitor it looks like the Blick pastel “rose madder 1” … did you choose that hue of pink for a reason? a little like with underpainting? Or was it just the colored pencil lead you happened to have?
I’m going to watch all your other videos now. Thanks for having uploaded this!
