Being a noob, I bought mx4x12 a and b cabs to save money only to learn that the stock speakers are only decent at bedroom levels and the tone flattens when wanting to crank them. I replaced the speakers in the A cab with vintage 30’s in the A cab and the difference is huge. Just got the greenbacks delivered today and gonna but them in the B cab so the vintage 30’s and greenbacks will be combined. I’m pretty stoked.
V30s and Greenbacks mix extremely well together. Many people use 2 of each in the same 4 by 12 or 1 of each in a 2 by 12. There are many guys who don't like Greenbacks or V30s on their own but love them together.
@@adamwatson6916 I put them in separate cabs because I wasn’t sure if the wattage difference would cause issues wiring them together in the same cab. I guess it turns out it wouldn’t harm anything. Still sounds great having one type in one and another in the other. I may still cross them in the same cabs anyway though just out of curiosity
Used V30’s for years and loved them, especially for cleans but seemed like they were a touch too loose either gain. Tried a 412 with two V30s and two Greenbacks. It’s just what I wanted.
1960B vintage all the way for me . More clarity and better balanced. The greenbacks are a little to Fuzzy/Fizzy sounding for my liking and a little too. soft/spongy . Kind of smeared sounding . Greenbacks sound much better for low to medium Gain but even then I prefer G12H30s for the more classic low Gain to medium Gain stuff.
Thanks, more to come. Just got to decide on which pedal to push the 1959hw with to get it to match the JCM 800. Maybe Pal 800 v3, brown sugar, jester etc
Hollywood Rare Guitars they look legendary sitting next to each other! Kinda Hall of Fame at your premises! It would be cool if you compare not only the gainer side, but the cleans and edge of breakup tones as well (since that’s the starting sweet spot point for many to fire some gain on top). By the way, greenbacks give the amp a plexiish vibe, I reckon. So guess using cabs to amps that correspond on this picture would yield greater results, IMO.
i happen to own both v30and greenback and actually when you fredman each speaker and send v30 to one side and fredman the greenback and send it to the opposite side the balance its just right for a 2guitar situation
Dr Z builds a cabinet called the “Best” , that if I’m not mistaken, mixes a Vintage 30 and either a Green or Creamback speaker. Listening to the differences in this comparison, I can understand why he does it because they would compliment each other very well.
@@HollywoodRareGuitars , it has feet on the bottom and then one side, so if you stand it upright, the Green /Creamback is on top and the Vintage 30 is on the bottom.
I run a dual mono wet/dry setup with my effects on one side only through a 412. I use two 412's as the dry side. Two cabs have vintage 30's on the bottom, greenbacks on the top. One cab has the greenbacks on the top, and cream back 75s in the bottom. Ever since I've done this to my cabs, I have never felt more home with my tone. Everything seems so alive.
The Marshall G12 Vintage is in fact the real V30. The Marshall vintage was the original V30 . It was a Marshall only speaker at first but due to demand Celestion released ca regular production version but they had to change the specs because the specs of the original V30 or Marshall vintage were proprietary to Marshall .
I own the (av version Marshall vintage g12 cab), funny how some people compare v30's to these g12 Marshall's try to make them sound bad compared to the 30's ? well its different, but not bad ,this video proves it ! Over the years there's a lot of lying ! doctoring things! they don't, won't tell you they did to make the video content sound better, or to be paid by the company's to tell you that ! Its almost as if they mic'd the speaker in the worst spot to make there v30's sound better don't believe this BS !
@@Briman24 I've heard people describe Alnico blueback speakers the same way you just did with V30s. That is the sickest tone I've ever heard from a JCM800 in a UA-cam video
Thanks! Lots of videos of this amp on my channel.
I think I have seen same comment by other people on other jcm 800 videos. Lol.
@@RockG.o.d Thanks I have a ton of these type videos, Marshall and Friedman etc

Love the greenbacks when recorded with that mic. Have 2 in mine and 2 stock.

Those greenbacks sound killer.

I did the video 2203 vs 1959hw, look for it in 12 hours or so. Came out great
Just posted JCM 800 2203 vs 1959HW same cabs, sm57 mic

What kind of over drive do you use ?
no pedals, hot mod v2 in the amp
We should have both for sure! Different animals
yeah
great test man...same head both cabs ...perfect
JCM 800 vs !959hw demo will be up tomorrow
How does the marshall 1960bv compare to those harley bentons 4x12 , they all loaded with V30s
Marshall cabs are the best I played, Marshall's v30's are voiced different as well
@@HollywoodRareGuitars arent they all chinese v30s nowadays!? Im getting a 2012 marshall 1960bv , I hope its better than my harley benton v30s

Any thoughts about how they compare to each other with a Strat?
About the same, I have strat videos of these too

Thanks

I wonder how close you can get them to each other by adjusting EQ?
There is a certain sizzle and definition to the greenbacks, distort more because of less headroom
Any way you can try running both cabs together with the same head? Probably would sound ethereal. Just got a 1960bv cab myself and it’s wonderful
Don't think you can do that, jacks are different on each cab
@@HollywoodRareGuitars you can. one speaker cable into each cab then plug both into the head
