We had Mahindra thar diesel & thar petrol 2022 variants & we did a drag race among thse two variants.
Thar diesel variant was with manual gearshift & thar petrol variant was with amt gearshift.
So we did this to get to know the power & torque among these two variants of Mahindra thar 2022.

It's not much of a good choice nowadays. Popularity for petrol is increasing even in SUV segment (XUV700 petrol is very popular) also petrol has high resale value in some parts of India. It also launches faster because of short stroke and high rpm ths making it faster. The mileage isin't terrible and is about similar to petrol nowadays.
@@pranjalghanghoriya4391 xuv 700 petrol is giving 6-7 kmpl in city, xuv 700 diesel is giving 11-12 kmpl in city, that petrol engine gonna burn the pockets for sure ......
@official.asia.military on yeah i forgot to mention that. Torque is lower than petrol so offroading in a bit worse. Make sure to get the Diesel if u really off-road a lot
@@pranjalghanghoriya4391 it's not because of popular choice, it's because diesel BS6 engines are quite difficult to design and it will cost more hence y OEMs are going petrol and petrol burns more cleanly than diesel,
Petrol thar is more smooth and more powerful 150bhp. Diesel thar is 130bhp
I am a person who has worked in Mahindra... I will say that diesel will never take over petrol... Three old petrol examples: Willy's, Old Grand Vitara, Gypsy...!

Always do the drag race in a Highway which is not having traffic or less traffic
*Diesel is more efficient than gasoline but does not catch the speed, and the automatic runs continuously without gear so it wins. Manual is like taking speed then slowing down then taking gear then taking speed.*
Just shift a bit early and see how the diesel power kicks in.

@@Abhi-qr6hb yes that is useful for trucks ie diesel has more pulling capacity but petrol burns faster and hence petrol is quicker. That's why supercars do have petrol engine

Manual is like takes speed then slows thaen take gear then takes speed and diesel is more efficient than petrol but not catches the speed and the automatic is running continuosly without gear that's why Petrol Automatic wins

turbo petrol engine shows both properties of a diesel and a petrol engine.
Turbo provides low end torque like that of diesel engine and can be revved till 6500rpms unlike diesels 5000 or 5000rpm cut off.
So turbo petrol takes its advantage here!

Turbo, is an optional. Not a default part of all diesel engines. So don't think, turbo will help always. Think if the same turbo would be implemented in Petrol engine ???
