You should always have some type of screen or filter on the intake side before the acid goes through the pump. As the acid is looped through the system it is removing scaly debris from the coil. This debris will land in the bucket and be sucked right back through the pump. Some of this debris and trash can severely damage the pump. A simple strainer on intake side will prevent this.

Your right and thanks for pointing that out. Next time

Very intuitive. Thanks, I actually wonder how hard the muriatic acid is on the pump itself. Thats another question

I wonder that myself, except it’s probably fine because it’s only in the pump for a short time and the pump is well rinsed afterwards.

After researching pressure washers and their care I installed a garden hose washer with a built in stainless steel screen the the intake side of my pump. I got a few online cheap, maybe from eBay. They came as a group all connected. I’m glad I saw this comment, as I’ll be using a fairly expensive pump to flush out my domestic water heating coil in my home boiler.

You can do this more often with distilled vinegar. I works on any hot water system to keep the pipes clean. Great Video, Shawn!

Great Video Shawn! Used this setup on my PEO Series Whitco Pressure washer and it worked great! The problem I had, was water getting to hot! Flushed the coils just like in your video, problem solved! Thanks for posting!

I thought this would damage the seals also but the place I bought the setup assured me it wouldn't. I did this some time ago and the water stays hot like it did when it was new and I haven't had any problems with the seals.

Shawn Graham I'm glad it worked for you! and I guess even if you did have to replace the pump seals it's not horribly expensive but I would've thought the acid would eat at the seals.

Hey Shaun, I have a side arm hot water tank (Everhot) that has not been cleaned in 30 years..(believe it or not)......almost no hot water .the plumber says the acid will burn a hole. Nice to see your success

We use a old pump or a small transfer pump. But you might also add that if that coil has never been cleaned or is having issues you should run the acid through the coil backwards.

won't the murat acid do damage to the seals running it through the pump?
definitely don't know more than. you one the subject but I would thing you could accomplish the same thing possibly by setting the bucket of acid high and then siphon into a collection bucket on the ground and then rinse just like you did. all speculation on my end I just know you don't want to run SH (bleach) through the pump so I would figure murat acid would have to be more corrosive.

You can also use a cheap $150 dirty water pump from harbor freight so as not to damage your more expensive pressure washer pump from the acid.

Thanks, Shawn! I have always wondered how hot pressure washer system worked! I wonder if this technique would help to clean the radiator and coolant system in a vehicle?

I bet it works really well until it starts coroding aluminum parts and such. Probably really hard on the system. Im not too sure id try it. Maybe look for someone who has with long time success

I cleaned my landa hot water coil with the acid the dealer sold me some kind of red powder after the rust was removed it started leaking water. Coils cost about $1000 not worth fixing a 25 year old washer. Maybe best to drain the coil or cool it down and pump some glycol in it for storage if you leave water sitting in the coil will rust it out.

WOW! Im surprised how scungy those coils get when clean water is running through them all the time. What makes it become so grimy?

I guess it would be the calcium and whatever minerals are present in the water. Just like a coffee pot or anything else that keep water heating drying and cooling.

How many hours before you should do maintenance like this on a hot water pressure cleaner.

    • @shawngraham8905
      @shawngraham8905  5 років тому

I'm not sure how many hour but it had been about 6 years and I use it every day.

Great vid! might be a dumb question, but do you turn the burner on when you do this?
