  • Here's a cover of Maritime, an instrumental track from Isis's 2002 classic record Oceanic. While there are many stand out tracks on this record, the middle of the record is a particular highlight, starting with Maritime. For how sludgy many parts of Oceanic are, Maritime is a brief break from the sludge in the form of a memorable instrumental that is as melodic as it is mysterious sounding. The track features a great guitar chord progression, keyboard arpeggios that are washed out in echo, droning bass, and a minimalist drum part that locks in the 5/4 groove. Overall, just a really tight arrangement that stands in contrast to the other tracks which build on themes in a much lengthier framework, real cool stuff!
This is part 1 of 2 songs I tracked by Isis that I had a great time figuring out how to play, and how to engineer.

Loved everyone’s performance ^^. ISIS is easily in my top 5 bands ever. Can’t wait for part 2.

Cheers! I'm a big fan of them, they definitely were my gateway band into acts that have ambient/pyschadelic/post metal-y tunes. Part 2 almost is finished with mixing, but it's going to be a mammoth to edit the video!

Cheers! I'm always surprised by the range of guitar sounds I get with a fender cyber twin and an sm57

I will always tune in for Isis lol.
When I first got into them I couldn't quite mentally digest Oceanic, and Panopticon was my initial favorite.
But then I gave it time to sink in, and Oceanic slowly became my favorite of their albums. Something special about it, for some reason.
Nice job as always man. The guitar sounded lovely and worked like a siren lol

Lucky month in that case, I'm almost done wrapping up the mix for the next one!
All the records kind of have their own flavor to them. I had the same exact experience, my friends who were into them got into them through Oceanic, but it didn't click for me until I heard Panopticon, and then many years after that (like 2007-2008) I really started to get into post metal stuff. I like their whole catalog but Wavering Radiant is probably my favorite record.
Thanks, all the instruments were really fun to play on this one, but the keyboard part was surprisingly tricky, which to me it's an unusual choice that it's the busiest instrumental part in the song, but they washed it in delay, so it's also the most ambient, really cool choice in my book!
