I heard this song from inside of birkenau with 10,000 other Jews and as we sang this song the clouds opened up and rays of light got through. it was one of the most beautiful and moving things I have ever experienced.

      I had to Google translate:
      Jeremiah 31:15
Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.
      Amen💕

I went to Israel for the first time on a tour in 1990. On the tour we visited Sdot Yam and this is where I learned about Hannah Senesh.
Fast forward to 1994, I was managing a campground in Utah and two Israeli young men, fresh out of the IDF, were touring the US and they spent the night at our campground.
We had a wonderful visit. I mentioned Sdot Yam and Hannah Senesh. One of the young men said he couldn’t wait to tell his grandmother that he had met an American that knew about Hannah. He said his grandmother had been her friend!

How can someone thumb down a song like this... I understand that this isn't everyone kind of music... But this is a poem/ written by a young woman that tortured and killed... If you don't like it then just let it be... You don't have to be negative. You can keep your opinion to your self... So respect for someone that died believing in such things.

I like this version of the song best of those I have listened to on YT so far.. Sounds more innocent and simple, which was Hannah, rather than the jazzy and other more complicated ways the song is sung. One does not need to "decorate" what she has written or what her co-writer put to music. It's lovely and says so much just as it stands now. We can think of her words, her message, her life, and her example while listening to the innocent words she put on paper while still so very young, on the precipice of so much, and willing to give it all away to protect us.

We enjoyed this hymn last week, Thursday 8 April. On R Mornings, Revelation TV. It was beautifully sung by the Pastor's daughter and the piano was beautifully played exactly like here. They showed lots of b/w photographs of the Jewish people and their children. My heart ached and I wept. I'm crying again now. LORD have mercy on us all, in JESUS' Mighty, HOLY Name, amen

Am on my way to my synagogue to mark the "international Day" for Shoah deaths where the date of death - therefore the "yarzheit" is unknown. We are gathering to commemorate these souls; sing ELI, ELI. & say KADDISH. This - with its powerfully poignant & tragic pictures - is absolutely marvellous - thank you.

I went to a jewish summer camp as a kid. My bunk was named Hannah Senesh. I didn’t know any of this history when I was younger, Now it makes me incredibly glad to see my people keep her memory and story alive. 10 years later this song popped into my head and I didn’t even know it was by her. What a story she had. Very inspiring.

@badback22 It was part of a uniform. You know Marines carry swords as part of their formal wear. She was also part of the military and your quote from the Bible does not make any sense here. Abel killed Cain for essentially no reason and Hannah did not murder anyone. She was trying to save people. She is a hero and she is currently resting in Heaven. That I am sure of.

Interesting connection, not intentional but now link both Hannah and Eli Cohen - both utterly courageous & selfless individuals on not so different missions.
Eli Cohen better trained for the Job !
Neither gave anything away under severe torture.
