    I am so glad you included long hair and some gorgeous long hair looks and tips. I am over 60 and still have longer hair. I have always preferred long hair to short especially here in Florida. I am glad I clicked on this video (I almost didn’t) because so many stylists suggest short dated cuts that require lots of products, bold hair colors that look unnatural and require lots of maintenance rather than a softer more modern look. I am going not for a youthful look, but a modern, natural look. Thank you for sharing these tips

    I’m completely white haired at 50. Dyeing it every-other-week to keep my roots from showing was a pain. I went from my light brunette to blond but it was still a pain. Went short, white, and spikey and love it! Nothing worse than a woman in her 50’s trying to look like she did in her 20’s. Nobody’s fooled. Unless you have massive surgery on your face like most of the actresses you showed did (Jamie Lee is fab), Jane Fonda admits to her facial work, most women will not look like your models. Why not have a video on aging gracefully?

I frankly have always thought the beauty industry is first and foremost about making $$$$, and they can't make any money on women like me. No, you are not the only one. I have had many haircuts that were short. Looks good in the shop but on Day 2, forget it! I am not clever with styling my hair. I finally stopped coloring it and let it grow. It is SO easy. I like a high ponytail, or an over the shoulder pony, or put it in a bun. I like it and now that its grown out from yet another short mistake, I'm keeping it slightly above my shoulders. That is the easiest ever.

      Yes I remember that time and I HATE THAT. I have BEAUTIFUL clients who are in their 60s with GORGEOUS long hair. Did you see Shelly's hair in the video? She is a goddess. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous and we have so much fun customizing it and making changes in the winter, summer and fall. Just because you're older does not mean you have to have short hair. That is ridiculous. All you need to do is add some width so that your face doesn't look dragged down and tired. Add some layers, add some bangs, add some richness in the color (if you choose to color your hair), wear an awesome outfit and you are good to go!

    • @kandacehead9544
      @kandacehead9544 2 роки тому +1

      @@GlamGirlGabi I understand why adding width and layers to long hair is necessary. My hair is currently almost classic length (covering the entire bum) and all one length. I plan to donate it in a few months and my goal is to donate as much length as possible and still have hair that falls just below the shoulders. Since my hair is very thick, it takes on a triangle shape when cut shorter and all one length. My stylist wants to cut it that way with no layers simply because layers are maintenance (in that I would have to take the time to style them if I want them to look nice) and I want an easy style that takes no longer than 5 minutes per day. My natural texture is straight with a little bit of a body wave, which becomes more pronounced the shorter I cut my hair. I want something easy, but don’t want triangle hair. My stylist and I also want me to wear my hair down more often (as opposed to constantly in a ponytail or braid), but having a shorter one-length cut makes me want to tie it back since it’s the only way to hide the triangle shape. Having layers would motivate me to take the extra time to style my hair and wear it down, but since I’m not used to doing so, learning proper styling techniques would come with a learning curve. Even after getting it down to a science, I would eventually get tired of the styling, especially if it takes longer than 5 minutes. I totally understand my stylist’s point of view, but feel like I’m between a rock and a hard place (in that I don’t want one-length triangle hair but don’t want to be bothered with styling layers). What should I do?

    • @GlamGirlGabi
      @GlamGirlGabi  2 роки тому +2

      @@kandacehead9544 If you have long layers, you don't necessarily have to style them if you have only a slight body wave in your hair. Short layers would be a disaster if you don't spend any time on your hair but long layers should be okay. Another great option for you is to get the baseline of the hair point cut so that you free up A LOT of that weight at the bottom. Then you could get a bit of the front done with some face framing layers. That will free up the weight at the bottom and also add an area of interest at the front that should not be too high maintenance.

    • @kandacehead9544
      @kandacehead9544 2 роки тому

      @@GlamGirlGabi Thanks for your help. What do you mean by “get the baseline of the hair point cut” to remove weight? I’m ok with one-length cuts as long as I avoid the dreaded triangle shape.

    Here's a saddish lesson...in our western (American and UK) life, the idea that being older is a something to be ashamed of from our very first birthday. Yhe words, "HOW OLD ARE YOU NOW?" is where the subliminal msg start...compare this with the Spanish "how many years do you have?" This subliminally says you HAVE something, and the more one HAS, the more lucky or honoured one is. The Chinese and Japanese also ask, "what is your age?" Again no mention of OLD implied. I could go on and on, but the bottomline is, American culture is one that seeks to shame persons for a whole range of things, and age is one such thing.

    I'd love to see examples of these styles on women who aged naturally instead of celebrities who had multiple facelifts. When you show us women who've had work done on their jawlines, necks, and faces, you're not really illustrating how a good haircut can soften those areas.

    I am 58 now and have long strong hair. I usually pick it up and have no bangs since several years. I have been tring to figure out a cut that would make me look a bit more colorful, since right now nothing frames my face... Its just easier with my hectik and busy life.
    Thank you for this video Gabi, you gave some really good tips and I hope to figure something out!

    I love your channel so much. You have built a really lovely community! At 60 I look best with a super cropped pixie because it takes years off of my tiny face (think Judy Dench). It's all about finding someone who will customize your pixie, make it work with your gray pattern if you are going with your natural color and, of course, how you style it. I never think of my hair as my "crowning glory" but as an accessory to be updated and played with.

    This Video was Very Helpful . I just wished I would have found it before I went crazy and chopped my hair off. Lol
    I am 51 and in the last Three years worth my hair chemistry changing it has been a struggle to find a hair style for me. I feel like I am a serial hair style killer.
    I have gone through more styles but nothing seem to check off all He boxes I want. It also doesn’t help that my hair is very fine and can get frizzy in Humidity, which living in Fl does not help. I think I need to change my hair stylist, it has been a love hate relationship. Some times she gets it and I’m happy but then when I go back for the touch up it’s lie she doesn’t remember what she did last time and something just isn’t right . This last time I went the pixie.. the Hailey Berry style it turned out great ! Middle of summer was perfect, but I go back for trim and I got old lady style 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ So I’m so frustrated. I’m letting it grow out so I can start all over again .. I just wish I could fined someone that could just look at my face .. and hair and give me the hairstyle meant for me!

    I love your advice! I am 74, I have always had short hair, very fine hair. I have a terrible time trying to get a complementary haircut. I want style but not fuss. I am a sporty type, very outdoorsy so I have tons of wrinkles that I will not touch! I’ve earned every one of them. However I really want a good cut as you have said. My hairdresser works at a high end salon but does my hair out of her home, old friends daughter. I think she works a lot on longer hair. I think she sees me as old so I seem to get the same cut and color. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you for your video, very informative! Judy

    Great video and just what I needed as a woman of sixty. I love the bob cut and longer lob cuts. A few months ago my hair was 1 length to my shoulders. I went to a place to get a lob with subtle long layers and came with plenty of photos of the style I hoped to achieve.
    What I ended up with was a shaggy, short layers on top and back of hair, longer layers towards my face hideous mess.....When I tried to style it I looked like a throwback to the 80's!!! Which of course aged me terribly and I've been hiding ever since.
    I just need to find the right stylist that knows how to do bob or lob. The last one I went to clearly had no idea and when she asked me what a Lob was, I should've realized this hair cut was gonna end badly!

    I also love long hair on quite a lot of my over 50 clients. But I would love to add to this discussion that frizzy hair ALWAYS ages. To wear it long, no matter the color, the hair CAN"T appear witch-like. I apologize if I sound blunt. Conditioner isn't always the solution, using styling tools properly works wonders

      Do you have very fine hair Susan? If you have super fine hair what you could do is cut the hair just passed the shoulder, keep the entire back blunt and do face framing throughout the front of the haircut. Then you have softening around the front but thickness throughout the haircut!
