Not necessarily. Used to shoot off those punched in rounds in the military, all the time. The M249 was notorious for doing that and we'd just reload them and run them through the M249s and M16/M4 platforms
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess As a finn myself who loves rk62 and Valmet Petra, I have to disagree. Sorry. All the basic elements are copied and yes, succesfully designed to be better. But there is not really any large innovations made.
Valmet "Hunter" was available in Australia in 7.62 x 39 cal (sporterized) in 1980's but not sure of its designation? Mute point now I guess as long ago banned sadly along with any "assault" style rifle. Cost under AUD $200 and also new in the box Norinco standard SKS and Six Corp SKS K30 (with three 30 rnd mags) and an optional CRATE of Norinco ammo (1440 rounds) for about $150. 🇦🇺
@Kevin Hall The 7.62x39 version wasn’t made by Valmet, it was made by Norinco, and called the “Maegun” in Australia, or the Norinco or AK Hunter in the US. What happened was a certain Qld firearms dealer wanted to import sporterized AK’s in the late 80’s. Customs said no way, so he took a Valmet Hunter receiver to China and asked Norinco to copy it in 7.62x39. The first shipment (several thousand) got through, and some say several thousand barrelled receivers of a second shipment also got through and were then assembled locally. This is when some armourers started turning Maeguns into bear identical AK clones by welding plates onto the receiver to square off the receiver and installing AK furniture and rear sights to make what was known as the “AK47 Qld Copy”. When customs finally worked out what the Maeguns were, they stalled and changed the law (their usual trick) so the import permits for subsequent shipments expired. Norinco wouldn’t wait, and sold the further shipments to the US to circumvent the 1989 US import ban on assault rifles. It is rumoured the “Maegun” name was used as it was his daughter Megan’s name reworded, as calling them an AK Hunter would have red flagged them with customs
@@ForwaedCommand Ahh yes the Maegun. I had no idea what it was at the time so didn't get one back then. There were some actual Valmets floating around Sydney but not that many I guess? The Norinco AK (a container of so-called AK type 56's) came in, the container was short so the Chinese packed a few AK Type 56 - 1 versions in that were select fire which were quickly grabbed up LOL
The Valmet Hunter M88 was sold in Oz right up until 1997. Chambered in 308win, not 7.62x39. An no, it didn't get banned because it was an 'assault rifle'. It got very heavily restricted to the point of being banned to all but the chosen few because it was a centrefire, semi-automatic rifle and was classified as a category D firearm. You still see them pop up on Abused Guns faily regularly.
@@SnoopReddogg Anything with over 5 shot mags and semi auto was an "assault rifle" according to Jackboot Johnny Howard. At least a Mossberg 500 with a 1/4" dowel and O rings in the tube made it a 2 shot. Still have the dowel as a momento of stupidity but the Mossy is long gone.
How anyone could take one of these handsome, functional, reliable and accurate (and increasingly rare) rifles and turn it into a “clone” of an AK or Galil (which was very heavily influenced, if not outright based on the Valmet) is beyond my comprehension... And no, I’m not some “anti-black-gun” weirdo- I’ve owned my Valmet M-76 (.223) for over 20 years, and I love it for what it is- I’m not about to slap some Picatinny rails, neon-green “zombie” plastic crap, or anything else on there! The barrel is so low it kinda throws me off. I'm not sure if I have to adjust when aiming a bit. (Used to shooting with guns that have the barrel lined up to sights directly. Might just be a me problem)

Just saying but the "Galil features" came from Valmet and their RK 62 rifles were used to design the first Galils

Hey! Galil is a clone of finnish clone of ak47.
The Finnish rifle isn't a clone of AK, it's just designed after it. Same with VZ 58
