I waited a lifetime to have two horses of a lifetime, Todd RIP. If there ever was a horse that loved, it was this horse. A horse you could trust to the enth, tough, loyal, sensible, appreciative and all round family guy. But despised dressage with a passion.!I have another who he sent he is a Section A stallion. Brave, smart, hilarious, cooperative, fast to learn, the sweetest nature I have ever seen, an extraordinary animal. Thank you Todd.
I have experienced precisely what you described. Sadly, my "one moment in time" horse, a 17hh Andalusian gelding, passed suddenly a few weeks ago. Sure, he had some confirmation issues with his front feet, cutting a competition career short, but that mattered not at all in the larger context of the companionship and partnership we had. Everyone who knew us commented how obvious it was that we really loved each other. I have worked with many horses over the years, and I have bonded easily with many of them, but this fellow was special to me, and the chain of coincidences that brought us together are not likely to repeat. I have learned that you must find that delicate balance where you give a horse the space and freedom to be his or her best self - quite apart from employing humane, kind, and educated training skills. I could not agree more! It was like that with the one horse I’ve had so far. It was that instant click. Unfortunately I had to sell her as I had surgery I both wrists. We had 2 yrs together and she ended up with a teenager who jumped her to pieces. But someday I hope to continue the path with another horse. Thank you Tristan for enlightening more people who choose to be around horses!
My current filly is the most perfect teacher i've ever had. Training her and preparing her for under saddle work has made me question everything i've been taught during my equestrian career. Which bring me to ask, is the competitive equestrian world evolving? Can you see evolution in competition preparation strategies in the equestrian world that take greater care of prioritizing equine welfare? In the search for optimum performance, are top level riders and trainers taking into account mental health and comfort?
I like your thinking. There's definitely been a turn away from the old "Equestrian" ways. People are openly saying how they dislike the equestrian industry and so many I talk to have had enough of the old "equestrian" ways. There is change happening. Horse people have given themselves a snobby, stuck up reputation and they can't be trusted. Time for change!
I had my magical horse - the connection was so strong it felt like we were one. Incredible. I love the horse I have now but we don't have the magic - he is challenging and he has so much potential that I don't know where we'll end up 😊 can't wait to find out.

It has most certainly given my horse and myself a language that speaks deep meaning, forging us a relationship that is quite profound. Tristan, you are a gem 💖
Love this and it really touches my heart as I have been trying to find that next one for over a year. It apparently doesn't work that way. 😢 So now i sit back and wait for that horse to come to me.
Everyone wants the perfect horse - I want the one that no one else wants - the rejected, misunderstood, nasty, reactive - if only I could save one more undesired horse from slaughter or sale by "equestrian" fools, I would choose that. They're the ones that beg you to domesticate them, teach you the most and having done all they love you and bow to you like ur the Queen with honour and trust... Having the horse that you've started yourself or restarted, won its trust and trained all the way through without anyone else doing the work, it's the reward and satisfaction that comes from these types of horses that's the best horse to have. Truly your own. Too many people want everyone else's horses but aren't willing to put in the work and training of one for themselves. Happy horse happy life! 😊
Same here, I don't want a horse, I want a deep connection, even if it's an ugly horse. Being one with a horse, it's like singing with angels. Nothing beats that, nothing! I have a young stallion that could be that, but without a good trainer, we don't stand a chance.
What I love to watch is the magic between Brett Kidding and Zafir. It seems like Zafir is in on the jokes and puts up with Brett's nonsense. I have not seen any recent Brett Kidding performances. Has TRT retired that act?
