Love the dark bay mare 😍 I don't think you should worry about them seeming big so much. You adjust so quickly when you're around a big horse. Give it a week or 2 and they don't seem big anymore.
Absolutely! I went from my 14.2 Welsh X to a 17hh TB and it was terrifying for about a week until I realised a big horse spook is so much easier to sit to than a nippy little pony spook 😂 While I still love my ponies I am 100% over to the big side
Feel the same way, little pony, bolting around being a bit of an asshat meanwhile big lazy thoroughbred who would rather just plod and if he spooks doesn't do much with it, or I can feel it coming XD.
I 100% agree. It disheartened me hearing Meg say that it was just the size, and she was too afraid, and even that Hobs wouldn't "let her" bring a big horse home. That beautiful leggy chestnut has a lot of heart and potential, and it does sadden me hearing fear hold her back.
@@EdieDawnJay Fear can be a very powerful thing to overcome, I'm just getting back into my riding journey after shattering my tibial plateau and I got back on the horse I did it on. I never blamed my beloved Jim, but those thoughts of it happening again, rush through your mind. And I also have CPTSD which means my brain is hardwired to remember trauma. I have the tools now, to help myself accept it and be okay with it, there's no rush to do things with horses. There's always another competition, another day at the beach, another forest ride. Not everything has to be done right there and then. If someone says they aren't scared of being on a horse's back, they are either foolish or lying. Fear is what gives us a healthy respect and an understanding of what we can and cannot do. But, most importantly it can help us stop and think, what fear cannot become is the reason you do nothing at all
@@EdieDawnJay I don't think it's just fear, I think it is preference. I also prefer ponies and it's not about fear. I prefer pony strides and the feel of a horse and really don't like big lumbering strides. I rode a 16.2 for over a year and still prefer smaller.
Looove the bay mare! Such nice breeding the old Irish draught ISH type, would make a amazing eventer! All the horses have such incredible temperament for babies, such sweeties ❤
LOVE the third mare - the babyish chestnut! What a beauty and a mover - even though she’s green you can just see the potential and the talent in her shine through. She’s really going to be something special as she matures. You look the part on her too! 🧡
Yes I love her I know she is quite green but she looks lovely.. I also LOVEE the second grey I think she was gorgeous and I love how mature she was for 5 at my riding school I school one of the 4 yr olds and he needs a LOT of work but he’ll get there❤
The two horses I liked the most when you rode them was the 5 year old Gray mare you rode (the second one at the first place), and then the dark bay 4 year old mare. With the dark bay, she looks like she could definitely develop that suppleness for dressage and she seems to love free jumping too. Always a pleasure and a laugh to see you and Simon hang out together! Best of luck with your horsey decisions! ❤
Completely agree! Though Abbi is right and the 2nd grey mare is basically the same size as Jammy. So I would vote for the bay mare. She was adorable and seemed such a nice fit. I also believe being a beloved homebred will make her slot in right away at the Elphick yard where Hobbit and Meg are so much about very beloved homebreds.
The second chestnut seemed like a very lovely horse. Sweet mannered, good paces. It’s a shame you didn’t try a little jump on her as I think you would have definitely thought about her more if you had. You need a bigger horse, Meg. Something only a tiny bit higher than your current lot is not what you are looking for! What’s the point in buying one the same height as your current ones, when your current ones can happily do the job?? You want something bigger so that you can have a good go at bigger tracks with long horse strides. A short strided little horse with scope is exactly what you already have! You do suit something a little taller with a longer neck. It’s always going to feel different compared to your short-necked Connies, but look at how well you adjust to all the featured larger horses you have ridden on this channel! It only takes a week max of getting used to. You need to give yourself more credit, listen to the experienced people around you and go for something a bit different. And if it doesn’t work out, you can always sell on. A larger pony type will always be more difficult to sell than a smaller horse type because larger ponies are limited. They struggle to meet horse strides, but can’t enter any of the pony events. A smaller horse type can go on to do anything with any rider. There are horses out there with shorter ‘pony’ strides, though, which seems to be what you should be looking for - so good luck.
I would need to see her jump with you or another rider before deciding. Some of the head tossing while free jumping and tail swishing/ wringing under saddle showed some resistance to me but it was late in the day and maybe she was tired. I liked the grays best.
Hope you went back for a second look at the bay mare. Loved the second grey, but feel your reservation on her size. Overall some great horses, really liked your insight into each one. Bring on the next video.
Dark bay mare is beautiful, and moves so well, maybe not so quick off the leg as the the 5year old grey, who was also gorgeous! Good luck with the decision-making Meg!
OMG that chesnut mare Simon rode!! To die for! But the Bay mare was gorgeous too, you suited her so much and she looks gorgeous. Really honest and looks like she'd eat up a cross country course and wow in the dressage!
ugh i LOVED that huge chestnut mare she was so so lovely! and the back end on the little 3yo chestnut mare wow! also that gray gelding at the end was such a stunner! what a pretty shape he made over jumps! sweet face too! can’t wait for part 2! much love from texas 🫶💛
Personally, i think the second grey mare is a really solid bet. The way you talked about her made it seem like you really liked her. Plus it looks like she is closer to where it seems like you want to be with your riding. Shes someone you can take out competing at the levels you want much more quickly. And advance with her more quickly. You have so many young horses you're bringing along that having someone thats a little more established and someone you're really comfortable on will really help you. But they were all gorgeous horses and youll pick what's best for you. Good luck and looking foward to the rest of the trip!!
I liked the second horse (5yo grey), the third horse - little 4yo chestnut mare was sooo sweet too I loved her. THAT DARK BAY MARE!! She's fantastic!! (writing as I see her for the first time) 😍 FANCYY! She's so lovely Meg 😭❤️ Looks like you've enjoyed the first day! Can't wait to see the rest of your horse shopping adventure 👀
I'm voting for the TIH bay mare! She's stunning! She has loads of potential, and a sprinkle of ID really gives them the right mindset for an ammy rider. ❤
Love the first grey and the bay, you were super confident on the first grey ! You can’t train attitude. Second grey you already have two of those 😂First chestnut super smart and something to put your own buttons on! What a fantastic pot to choose from! Thanks for taking us on your journey. 😅 Bay is my first choice though😊
Kristin mares are just stunning but what really stands out is that they all have gentel personalities and willingness to listen. The 1st grey mare which was the biggest is Just stunning and the chesnut as well. The 2nd grey is really pretty but she does seem similar to your mares so dont know about that lol
The dark bay mare is absolutely stunning and could definitely do well in eventing. You looked really good on her, Meg!! I'm always drawn to dark bays, i just think they're beautiful(especially if they have socks or face markings). 😊😊
I love the bay mare. She’s absolutely gorgeous. I also love the second grey mare even if she’s a bit smaller. She really doesn’t look small when you’re riding her and she looks so game, like she’d jump anything you point her at. She definitely seems like a huge confidence booster.
The bay mare is going to need a lot of time and work as she needs time to grow into herself the as you could start working with the 5 year old mare even a bit of show jumping and cross country training over winter
@@sparkle.-buggg3610 All of their horses she’s trying will need work. I’m pretty sure that’s what’s she’s looking for as she mentioned in the video that she doesn’t want a horse that’s too experienced or had too much work done.
Nice mares all of them!! I liked the 2nd grey girly even if she’s on the smaller size. My favorite (apart the last one who is clearly over my budget) was the bigger chestnut she’s a beauty, but 16.2 is my ideal height 😅 Can’t wait for part 2!!
Oh, I've been waiting for this! Nothing like some vicarious horse shopping to brighten up a rotten week :) They're all lovely types, but the green little chestnut mare and the Connie cross are gorgeous! Hearing you talk about adjusting to riding bigger horses made me laugh a bit: when I was moving up from large ponies, one dealer we visited decided to start by putting me on her daughter's showjumper to get an idea of how I rode. I'd never in my life sat on anything taller than about 16hh and this guy was a good 17.2!
Oh I loved the second chestnut you thought was too big! You didn’t look overhorsed at all. The first chestnut was lovely too - fab ping. And the bay was gorgeous but seemed more like a showing type than eventer? I could see her at HOYS.
I love the ISH shes very very nice and so pretty and she would look so smart in dressage, she is the chefs kiss 💋 and the last chestnut mare was very nice too even if a little scary for you. If your budget is smaller than what you're loving, you can always keep saving and come back... Sometimes seeing something you would really appreciate is worth the wait even if you'd like it to happen sooner rather than later. Can't wait to see the next video. 😊

I can seriously see you competing to very high levels on this gorgeous mare. The minute I saw her beautiful trot I was flabbergasted, and I knew that she was truly something special. Oh my goodness , unless something awful happens when you ride her I hope that you completely agree. Meg you look wonderful on her she is a wonderful size for you. I am not saying that this is absolutely THE ONE for you, but I would definitely put her very near the the top of your choices. Jane .❤️🧑🏻🦰❤️🐴
That bay is suh a sweetheart, she's very robust, which makes her look taller and she also carries herself taller, ironically my boy Jim is the same, and I am 5'10. Very excited to see the rest of this journey, have been spying your story intently to get excited about this. That young chestnut mare was a darling, green but so obliging too, she immediately caught my eye, and the fact they were so honest about her too.
The 2nd grey mare ( 1st video) is all heart & my favorite video combination ❤❤❤ . However, you cannot deny the talent and class of the dark bay (with the water combo etc). An obvious front runner. All horses are so nice!!!! Thx for sharing.
All of those horses looked amazing! Clearly you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose. And how awesome is it that you have someone with Simon’s knowledge to help you with this! He seems like such a genuine guy. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
I’m biased but the baby chestnut was my absolute favourite. What a gorgeous mover + so smart over a fence😍. The bay mare was also really lovely as well, such a sweet temperament. So glad you’re sharing this journey with us Meg, it’s so fun to watch!
This is so much fun, Meg. Thank you! Hope you will be brave about size, Meg. I love the second chestnut (the one who grew), and you looked fantastic on her. I also love the dark horse, the Irish x mare that was on her own. Honestly, you won't even notice the size after a week. Good luck! Looking so forward to the next vlog.
Absolutely adored the third horse - the very green chestnut mare. So super cute! Also really loved the bay mare, I‘m sure she would turn into an amazing eventer! Also love that she‘s a homebred ❤️
The second grey mare and the dark bay are my preferences Meg! Dont be put off by the size, you ride so beautifully and as others have said you'll get used to them so quickly! Love how Simon has come along too! Keen to see who else you try out Meg! X
My favourite one was the 16.1hh dark bay mare. They were all amazing but she seemed to have a nice middle of the road personality, like balanced. Not hot and not lazy, and she was a nice height. I love a black and she was close to black haha. There was just something about her that I loved!
The green Chestnut was gorgeous! The Bay was also really pretty. Excited to see what is next. Always a pleasure to see Simon in the videos! Was laughing at Abby saying she will hop up on anything 16 hands plus.
Loved the second grey mare and the bay- you look great on both. The grey mare is bigger boned than your greys and so it looks like a bigger horse than she is. The bay was fabulous. They both looked very sane and mature for their age
Oh WOW! So fab to have Simon there too. I liked that first grey mare. The young chestnut was lush, but perhaps too green? Also have to admit I’m not a chestnut mare fan. 😜. I really think you need to go to the edge of your size comfort zone. Thanks for taking us along! ❤❤❤
I really adore how compact (I think that's the word you're looking for over "chunky"--or stocky even) these ISH are built. I really liked the grey 5 year old and the dark bay mare. Whichever you choose, I hope for a clean vet check!
Meg…thank you for bringing us along! I’m out of horses for now after riding for 25 years due to having a baby. I’m totally living through you on this. I’d also love to see a series of you visiting and riding subscribers horses!
As someone with a 4 year old grey Warmblood I fell in love with the first horse you tried, you luck incredible on all the horses but the second grey and the chestnut (3rd) were just 🤩
The first chestnut and the bay mare--both very open, flowing strides. You didn't look tiny on the 16.2 mare but she clearly has more growing to do and personally (just me) I think 16 is the sweet spot. The bay has the conformation to muscle up where you need it, and the bone to handle a lot of jumping. Without being at all choppy or doubtful.
The dark bay mare and the second grey mare both absolutely radiate potential. Those two just stood out the most personally, and you look like you mesh really well with them. Cant wait to see what you decide!
Hi Meg, I absolutely love the first chestnut mare even though she is green she has so much potential you looked fab on her too. Also the bay mare is a beautiful horse home breed is absolutely amazing, either of them would be amazing for you.
Lovely horses, personal favs from your first day are the second grey mare, and the bay mare. I thought you and the bay mare looked especially lovely together.
Idk, I think you looked great on that tall chestnut. You'd get used to the height pretty quickly and the bigger fences don't look as scary from up there! I do like the stout bay mare, too.
The 2 grey mares so far they were so easy to adjust and ride and your looked really confident on them although the grey 5 year old was a bit small she might grow a little and fill out she's rides like a horse and has a beautiful big canter loved your vlog soo excited ❤
The black 4 year old ISH mare(!), beautiful, balanced and talented. You didn't comment on feeling like she was too large, just a bit about her taking up your leg. I was thinking that she has a deep girth, which is not a bad thing in an eventer. You saw so many lovely horses on day one! I hope you are taking notes. The first 2 on day two were spectacular. Best of luck! 🤗
Love the dark bay mare 😍 I don't think you should worry about them seeming big so much. You adjust so quickly when you're around a big horse. Give it a week or 2 and they don't seem big anymore.

I love the last dark bay mare. So sweet and gorgeous.
I agree. Second grey mare looked much bigger than she sticks and Meg looked great on her.
Oh WOW! So fab to have Simon there too. I liked that first grey mare. The young chestnut was lush, but perhaps too green? Also have to admit I’m not a chestnut mare fan. 😜. I really think you need to go to the edge of your size comfort zone. Thanks for taking us along! ❤❤❤
The dark Bay mare for sure.. best of the lot so far. She had a real presence about her.
I really adore how compact (I think that's the word you're looking for over "chunky"--or stocky even) these ISH are built. I really liked the grey 5 year old and the dark bay mare. Whichever you choose, I hope for a clean vet check!
The first chestnut mare looks amazing, she reminds me of Bear with her jumping skills! 😍
So far LOVING that 4yo Chestnut and the bay 🤩I could see you owning either one really. Very excited to see what your overall decision will be!
All of those horses were beautiful. I love the bay mare, and so pretty xx
The dark bay mare would be my pick!! Absolutely love anything crossed with Irish draught, such great brains!
Just sat watching this video on the bathroom floor whilst dyeing my hair - brilliant video!❤❤ Loved the grey mares xx
I absolutely Fell I love with the first chestnut. You guys look so good together
The little chestnut mare was my fav that you tried 😍 although I think the chestnut 4 year old Simon tried wins the day...clearly price wise too 😂💜
The third horse was such a great mover... nice potential for good dressage scores. And so honest loose jumping too.
I like the second grey mare. She was the best in my opinion. I can’t wait to see what Meg decides and to see the new addition to the family❤
Love the chestnut mare at Kristen's!
Meg…thank you for bringing us along! I’m out of horses for now after riding for 25 years due to having a baby. I’m totally living through you on this. I’d also love to see a series of you visiting and riding subscribers horses!
Thought all the horses you showed were lovely 😍
Really liked the 'too big' chestnut mare. The dark bay was very nice too.
As someone with a 4 year old grey Warmblood I fell in love with the first horse you tried, you luck incredible on all the horses but the second grey and the chestnut (3rd) were just 🤩
Love the bay mare. The young chestnut was very sweet. Great video
The first grey 4yo was my favourite by far, but can't wait to see the rest😊
Lovely horses, personal favs from your first day are the second grey mare, and the bay mare. I thought you and the bay mare looked especially lovely together.
the first chestnut you viewed at the first place has SUCH gorgeous movement!
Idk, I think you looked great on that tall chestnut. You'd get used to the height pretty quickly and the bigger fences don't look as scary from up there! I do like the stout bay mare, too.
The last mare you saw was stunning 😍 and she would of been coming home with me 😂. You rode really well to ❤
Loved the first one. The grey 4y old. Lots of potential, drop dead gorgeous, and seems to have a great attitude, very attentive.
You're a really lovely rider Meg, honestly you rode those horses beautifully 🤩oh and the first one was my favourite, gorgeous paces and pretty head!
The 3rd mare is adorable!
I love the 4yo Irish sports horse and the 6yo bay mare out of pt2 !!!
