I actually feel really bad for Tana. Is she irresponsible and not the best influence? Yes, but based upon watching her when I was young, she talked about emotional and physical ab•se at home, and then as a minor was in a serious relationship with an adult. She also discussed sleeping with adult youtubers at 17. It's important that people know this upbringing is traumatic and is why Tana acts the way she does.

Idk how popular he is with young people anymore but I'd say be aware of Onision too. He has 3 channels: Onision, Speaks, and UhOhBro. A lot of the videos he makes are centred on judging people but with the guise of "I'm saying these horrible things because I care". He would rate his viewers bodies (mostly teenagers and young adults), he made videos mocking a girl suffering from anorexia etc.
@@mashthebanana yeah I remember getting so upset as a kid when my dad took away my iPad for watching onision but looking back on it there's no way a small kid should've been viewing that kind of content. Parents didn't really understand parental controls as much back then so it feels like a lot of people our age got damaged by unfiltered internet access at such young ages. It just hadn't been considered something people needed to look out for as much back then but hindsight is 20/20
I grew up with parental controls and there is a suprising amount of content that isn't blocked. Luckily I never like youtubers like Shane and really only watched a lot of commentary, so I escaped a lot of this stuff. But there was a lot of written content on things like Wattpad and AO3 that was not blocked, or at the very least I could easily get around. I would definitely just say that don't force your kid to tell you what they're watching online, but also make sure that as they get older they're developing the correct morals. Because while parental controls could block a lot of things (such as graphic images), you definitely can get content that is too explicit for someone at the age of 10.

from afar, tana seems like a textbook case of a kid being influenced into being a shitty person to be cool. theres no way to know for sure if she would have been better if left to mature on her own, but i dont think its a stretch to say that hanging around shane so much at such a critical, impressionable age (literally what is perceived as the years you become a real adult) had an impact on the things she found funny and acceptable to say/do.
If you've watched any of Tana's older content, it's pretty clear that she didn't have good role models at any point in her life. She talks about her relationship with her parents and how she basically had to raise herself AND financially and emotionally support her parents. She wasn't raised with good boundaries, so it's unsurprising (and obviously unfortunate) that she never really developed healthy boundaries as an adult.

i don't know much about tana's past actions, i admit. but it's honestly sickening that this video exists, like it was pretty much actual cp at the end there.
back in 7th grade, whenever i would watch his videos on the little 3rd gen ipod touch i saved up months for - and i watched EVERY upload on EVERY channel of his - i would get the strangest feeling in my chest n stomach... like i knew i shouldn't be watching his content, my body was trying to warn me but i just ignored it...

I was one of those kids that I think this deeply affected. He was my favorite UA-camr and many of the patterns he teaches in his videos I followed through middle and early high school, and thought it was okay to be into these topics, making these jokes, and excited for the day I turn 18. I’m 18 and in college now and obviously know better, but it’s so sad to see him resurfacing. His videos keep showing up on my recommended. I wish there was something we could actually do about him being on this platform.

So many people were absolutely awful to her. I never watched her stuff or any of the people in the same style of videos but I've heard of the creeps that were so interested in her and many other extremely young creators. No wonder they grow up and do such fucked up things. They're preyed upon and put into awful positions from a young age and just continue the cycle.

1:07 yup yup yup yup. ive been thinking that for a while. watching his content back in 2012 when i was a kid and didn't know any better really did feel like a type of virtual grooming. looking back on the things he would post KNOWING his audience were mainly minors (around 9-14yrs old) is absolutely shocking and disgusting. i hate myself for it and i hate him and i hate youtube for allowing his content to reach so many kids
