The complete lack of reaction to Ryan Higa in the Rewind videos tells me a dive on him is ABSOLUTELY necessary, from his skits to his music with Chester See (Bromance still slaps) all the way to BgA, and maybe some of the creators around him like KevJumba... it's needed
I think a dive about KevJumba will be quite difficult, seeing as his original channel is gone (and only few videos archived) since he has become a monk.
YES! They are such OG UA-camrs that really put so much effort in their videos. When UA-camr changed into livestreaming and reaction content and mostly gaming getting the most views, it was really sad for ppl like Ryan Higa who would put actual production into their video but it didn’t translate to money. Also, I still love the Nice Guys Finish Last song
Stanz saying that Eddy Burbacks video on Late Night talk shows and then not knowing who Lily Sings is even after being told she had a Late Night show is the most Stanz thing ever
As a tween/teenage girl for the entirety of this era of youtube, this dive made me realize that the amount of youtuber lore I know is crazy. Especially when it comes to the girlies and the gays
Same (minus the girl part) the golden age was my childhood I could talk in detail about internet lore from the yogscast to the creepypasta horror era, MLG all of it
Been having so much fun with Divemas this year, can’t believe it’s already over. It sucks the recording got muted, but it’s so damn funny seeing Stanz and Brooke dubbing over themselves. Stanz and Caanths really topped themselves this year, the whole series was so fun. Loved the new addition of bringing in community members to do dives. Brooke, Tharch, Betty, RichDecker and TheNLLibrarian, all did such an amazing job hosting. Also shoutout to the editors who pumped out a video every single day. Can’t wait to see what is in store for Divemas 2025
Man you gotta hand it to Stanz, Caanths, Brooke and everyone else working on these videos. Such high quality content being released so rapidly has been amazing.
yes!! Especially considering all of their media ventures like a radio show, 3 tours & 2 books + 1 solo tour/book, their impact and popularity it'd be a crazy one for sure and I hope it does happen for real :^)
I think something that angered both stanz and i about some of the anger around the pre 2018 rewinds are how people complained about there not being enough creators/ the ones they wanted to see and then whenever yt tried to add more people complained about there being too many, and it was a never ending cycle.
Yeah, it failing had nothing to do with youtube's efforts, it was that people were angrily demanding the impossible task of rewind involving everyone they personally watched, and nobody else. They wanted a personalized youtube wrapped - ironically a drastically cheaper, simpler and lower effort thing to soullessly churn out with an algorithm - and got mad about getting a high budget music video about the entire platform instead.
Seconded on the Dan and Phil deepdive though idk how much Caanths would know about them, they moved in very different circles to the Sidemen side of British UA-cam and were even separate from the Brit Crew.
A full British vlog deep dive is necessary. Zoella, Joe Sugg, Casper Lee, Dan & Phil. Definitely need some outside help or Caanths to suprise us all with his depth of knowledge of British culture lol
I can’t believe Divemas is over 😭 thank yall for the banger after banger vid yall have dropped over these past 2 weeks. Incredible work from Stanz and the team ❤️ Excited to see what yall do next!
I feel like now that we've had Achievement Hunter/Rooster Teeth, and Stanz was briefly introduced to Gavin Free, we 10000% need a deep dive on the Slow Mo Guys...he has absolutely no clue just how big of a deal Gavin is in the industry when it comes to filming slow motion for film and commercials, as well as how good most of their goofy content videos are...plus there are a TON of collabs with a bunch of other channels, like Good Mythical Morning, Kentucky Ballistics, Demolition Ranch, How Ridiculous, etc that The Slow Mo Guys have done over their years on the platform...
The more under-represented communities and countries that got included, the more hate it got for feeling corporate. Then when youtubers made their own, it went back to only including North American / British viral creators and suddenly it "has soul" despite excluding everything that gives youtube it's soul. We never deserved UA-cam Rewind, it was always the community that ruined it.
A really big miss was not including the Hispanic Rewind, sponsored by the biggest UA-camrs of LatinAmerica and Spain. Stanz would've appreciated their efforts to celebrate their community
I love how the comments at the time was oh I barely recognise 15 people, meanwhile I, a teen girl at the time, probably recognised 90% the English speaking UA-camrs to some extent. Genuinely I remember feeling like I was taking a test to see how many I knew each time it came out, it fully stressed me out so bad I was exhausted after watching them
Walk Off the Earth, who's guitar got smashed by Psy, has genuinely been in my top 5 Spotify wrapped music artists every year since that video blew up. They've become a lowkey Canadian icon known for their bizarre music videos and covers, and their incredible musicality. Likely can't do a dive on them due to copyright issues but they'd definitely be worth one. Genuinely cried when I found out Beard Guy had passed. Also kinda crazy thinking now in hindsight that they are technically the first appearance ever in a cinematic UA-cam rewind
I would love to see a TomSka Deepdive but due to a lot of his content being removed you would have to miss the golden content that makes him the unique long lasting creator that he is today
Petition for Stanz to do a running series (1-3 a week) called Scratching the Surface where he learns the tip of the iceberg on a subject, industry, niche, person, UA-camr, channel, trend, etc. then the ones that get the most views or buzz from the audience get their own dedicated Deep Dive
When it comes to deep dives on people in the Rewinds, a Dan and Phil deep dive would take hours with all the nonsense that happened in that fandom in the past.
Seeing stanz pop off about Husky makes me want a The Game Station / Polaris video with TotalBiscuit, Jesse Cox, Dodger, Crendor and the rest. Though i dont know how much of that content still survives. Haven't looked in years.
safiya nygaard and try guys was in one of them and I think a buzzfeed one would be interested. from the quizzes, controversial youtube videos, having lots of employees leaving/series they created (the try guys, buzzfeed unsolved, ladylike, buzzfeed foods bizzare food videos). how quinta brunson started with buzzfeed and the recent selling of hot ones. i think because how buzzfeed made such laughable quizzes that people forget how they actually made and lead to quite successful series.
I was just thinking about this a few days ago. I think the decision to end youtube rewind has aged well. Mostly because of all the controversies youtubers get themselves in these days. And youtube is a lot more hands off with creators these days, at least in front of the scenes.
I've been off of this side of UA-cam for a long time and Stanz finally made his way back on to my recommended. Your stuff is so entertaining to watch, I'm happy it came back around and reminded me
For Brazilians and i think for people from other countries besides US and UK, it was fun growing up and seeing a bunch of random gringos, and then, our creators being included by the time UA-cam Rewind was evolving.
I remember being really mad with UA-cam rewinds because they would feature talk show hosts who on their own shows made fun of UA-camrs and treated them like losers. With that and demonization, there is a lot of behind the scenes content at the time that made the hate justified. It wasn't just "I don't recognize anyone", it was UA-cam saying "we are going to prioritize mainstream media (actors, talkshow hosts, music videos) hosted on our site rather than the actual content creators themselves (which was reflected in the "trending" tab they mentioned).
2015 was the first one where i really felt like the UA-cam community, and that one will always hold a special place in my heart. way to get the community comments too!!!
36:25 when you rewatch all rewinds you realize 2015 felt just like every other rewind. you can really see how peoples oppinions are heavily weighted by who they know
I wish these divemas episodes were labeled more like Deep Dive: blank so I could watch them as a series Like I’m not really sure who Brook is but I like her
Feels like the main source of frustration with rewinds was the perceived loss of what made youtube "youtube". The growing focus on celebrities and creators who used the site for clips (Lane Night Talk Shows and Vine) overshadowed those creators who built their communities on YT. Especially when these were the people surrounded by controversies/drama (Lele Pons, Paul brothers and so on) - I wondered how rewinds would have been received if they kept the spotlight on the youtube-centric creators and excluded the drama ones
The dives are some of my favorite content, shout outs to all the research and hard work that goes into them! Some potential future dives I think would be interesting are Game Grumps, Mega64, Anthpo, and Ryan Trahan.
I remember watch all of Casper Lees prank videos and by god see him was a throw back there was so many creator I haven't thought of in years its actually astounding
I think an important part of people's reaction to the youtube rewinds are also tied to the changes in algorithm and new features/ the general sentiment people had about the platform always bleed into how people viewed the latest rewind... also it was very fun to meme on tbh
13:00 I don't know if it would be too much work for a deep dive, but if in the future you want this sort of look into "what were the comments like?", you could probably have Stanzy look at it through something like the wayback machine with a snapshot from around the year it was posted
I feel like the first rewind featuring a couple ads (Old Spice) and at least branded content (the Monster car) made a lightbulb go off in someone's head at UA-cam LOL
Rewind deez nuts
Hah! Good one.
Only one reply? Bro fell off
What happened to bro. Used to watch you like 10 years ago
This comment section truly is a UA-cam rewind!!!!
Do TGF
Glad Stanz finally got localized with an English dub.
I thought we would be stuck with sub forever
Idk if this adaption stays as true to the manga
The complete lack of reaction to Ryan Higa in the Rewind videos tells me a dive on him is ABSOLUTELY necessary, from his skits to his music with Chester See (Bromance still slaps) all the way to BgA, and maybe some of the creators around him like KevJumba... it's needed
Kevjumba, haven't heard that name in years
maybe a small dive, i dont think his history is as crazy. mainly skits, parkour, music, podcasts
I think a dive about KevJumba will be quite difficult, seeing as his original channel is gone (and only few videos archived) since he has become a monk.
@@hobofan yeah, I was thinking more a little tangent within the Ryan dive. It'd also be fun to see if Stanz recognises Justin Chon from Twilight lmao
YES! They are such OG UA-camrs that really put so much effort in their videos. Stanz saying that Eddy Burbacks video on Late Night talk shows and then not knowing who Lily Sings is even after being told she had a Late Night show is the most Stanz thing ever
I'm not trying to be mean, but I genuinely don't think she's memorable enough to remember outright
Edit: forgot to put the don't in "don't think" lmao
Honestly I keep forgetting she existed and i followed the drama lol
As a tween/teenage girl for the entirety of this era of youtube, this dive made me realize that the amount of youtuber lore I know is crazy. Especially when it comes to the girlies and the gays
Same while hes saying he doesnt recognize anybody im thinking "this was the era when i got into youtube so i remember everything"
Same (minus the girl part) the golden age was my childhood I could talk in detail about internet lore from the yogscast to the creepypasta horror era, MLG all of it
dan and phil dive would go so hard, you could surprise stanz at the end with the fact that they were actually gay lovers the whole time
I’m screaming
The crazy fan theories were RIGHT! The people who believed them from the get go must have felt so vindicated. Especially the apartment one
Been having so much fun with Divemas this year, can’t believe it’s already over. It sucks the recording got muted, but it’s so damn funny seeing Stanz and Brooke dubbing over themselves.

i think dan & phil deserve their own deep dive!! they are youtube legends & gems
I JUST GOT TO THE PART WHERE THEY SAID THEY NEED TO DO A DAN & PHIL DEEP DIVE LMFAO OOPS
yes!! Especially considering all of their media ventures like a radio show, 3 tours & 2 books + 1 solo tour/book, their impact and popularity it'd be a crazy one for sure and I hope it does happen for real :^)
THIS!!!!
yes they totally deserve one
The fact that Ryan Higa is barely being mentioned is crazy
A corridor Digital + Rocketjump dive would be awesome
Other OG vfx/short film channels would be cool too
I would LOVE a rocketjump dive, specially how much Stanz loves Videogame Highschool
Yes i mentioned corridor crew too he didn’t mention them at all
we need a safiya nygaard deep dive for sure
I think something that angered both stanz and i about some of the anger around the pre 2018 rewinds are how people complained about there not being enough creators/ the ones they wanted to see and then whenever yt tried to add more people complained about there being too many, and it was a never ending cycle.
Yeah, people are mad that they arent getting more NA creators when they added more people
Yeah, it failing had nothing to do with youtube's efforts, it was that people were angrily demanding the impossible task of rewind involving everyone they personally watched, and nobody else.
They wanted a personalized youtube wrapped - ironically a drastically cheaper, simpler and lower effort thing to soullessly churn out with an algorithm - and got mad about getting a high budget music video about the entire platform instead.
A markiplier deep dive would be fun to see
Brooke seems a bit great. The more this dive comes out the more I realized Stans is working with the right person to make these...

8tharch could do it. We have the tumblr girlie technology.
@ctsounabdsy absolutely agree. I need this
@@ctsoundsy imagine it spirals into a Troye Sivan dive lmao

Poppy deep dive PLEASE. She’s really interesting and she makes very unexpected but amazing music now. I’ve seen her live, iconic.
I'm just imagining Caanths and Stanz having to watch her UA-cam videos and I'm CRYING
@ fr, would be great
13:02 Brooke treating Stanz like she found her dog with a chocolate bar in its mouth
it's the "AH" that you do when you run out of words and just have to make more sounds so it knows it did bad

It would be cool if there was a deepdive on story time animators I remember in 2017-19 they dominated the platform.
The dubbing in this just deserves an oscar. W stand just putting in the effort
I state, once again, that a Game Grumps dive would be great
dan and phil deep dive would go crazy since they're on tour rn
Okay but a poppy deep dive needs to happen now

I feel like there was a missed connection here that Mr. Beasts's number one enemy is married to HuskyStarcraft, who Stanz clearly knows!
jacksucksatlife needs his own dive he is the playbutton god
When it comes to deep dives on people in the Rewinds, a Dan and Phil deep dive would take hours with all the nonsense that happened in that fandom in the past.
The voice dub was actually crazy well done. I forgot it wasn't even the original audio halfway through the video
Seeing stanz pop off about Husky makes me want a The Game Station / Polaris video with TotalBiscuit, Jesse Cox, Dodger, Crendor and the rest. Though i dont know how much of that content still survives. Haven't looked in years.
I kinda want this to happen just to see if Stanz will recognize TB's face as the twitch emoji
@MidnightRose77 he talked about playing wow and needing yogscast's videos when doing that dive. Might already be familiar.
Oh I know that dive would make me cry. I don't know enough about everyone there, I just know about TB, but his death hit me hard
