And my final classic Call of Duty review. I can't believe I have never played Big Red One before - I loved it. Check out FINEST HOUR here: ua-cam.com/video/q7UW-UW9wgE/v-deo.html ▶▶
This game, Finest hour, Final Fronts, 3 and all of the medal of honor games are the reason why i am obsessed with WW2. Playing all of these with my dad as kid will forever be a core memory. I love them all dearly. Brooklyns death shattered me
Kelly is an inspiration for. He was the greenest of the Big Red One but yet he persisted until the very end! I remember being surprised as to how he made it to some of the most intense moments. My favorite eyeglass wearer character in war games.
I remember playing this in 3rd grade and the kids I was friends with then, we loved the campaign of this game. But we were already watching Saving PVT. Ryan, and whatnot. Brooklyn was the coolest
Big red one made such an impact on me, it got me into WW2, it got me into surplus firearms of that era, it go me into the history of particular battles, it got me into the struggle these guys endured. Its a shame a CoD game with this much story and character will never be recreated again.
That bomber mission was me and m cousins favorite level in the game. We had never experienced anything like it before up to that point and it blew us away. Still remember the memories of all of us sitting around while one of us plays that mission then we would pass the controller to the next person so that they could play it as well. Miss those days, we were all close, like brothers. We played outside everyday, running around with nerf guns like we were in the army. I'll always remember those days
I replayed it recently and noticed a funny little mistake when reaching the ball turret. There's no waist gunners lol I guess they don't want the game to be too hectic like United Offensive switching between several positions or maybe they don't like how the NPC animations clipping each others but still a great level nonetheless
I had this game on GameCube and was my first COD game, the attention to detail and multiple factions back when COD devs cared about paying attention to historical facts
My first Call Of Duty all the way back when I was 8. It's so underrated, you'd be surprised how few people even remember this one, but I think it's the best from the COD's World War II days. Won't give any spoilers for anyone who wants to play it, but I remember actually getting emotional when one of my favorite characters died; no other game has done that for me. Great video man! Brings back so many childhood memories
This was the first video game I ever learned how to play, when I was learning all the controls and how to play. I love the history behind the whole game, and when playing the D-day mission on Omaha beach, I’m glad they don’t show you that several thousands of American soldiers got slaughtered by machine gun and artillery fire in one day before any of them could get to cover like what actually happened in real life.
this game has been such an absolute pinnacle of my childhood and the story of this is so good and nostalgic. The musical score of this game is absolutely incredible. no doubt. and this game doesn't make you feel like an individual super soldier it makes you a just soldier in the grand scheme of this war. this game got me hooked on history and i absolutely love how it can still be a call of duty game but it can still be historically accurate too.
I really enjoyed watching you play it live :D If i had to pick a game, id pick medal of honor pacific assault since not alot of the games cover the pacific theater of war
The game becoming "darker" as it progresses seems really unique. Hopefully I get some time to try those old CoD out for myself, looks like I missed out! Excited for the next video! Is it gonna be The Saboteur? :D
I had CoD Finest Hour, but never got Big Red One. Probably skipped it as I got an Xbox 360 along with CoD2 back then. Wouldn't mind seeing a remaster for both current consoles and pc. I miss CoDs that focused on actual military stuff and not whatever the heck Black Ops 6 is about.
It is probably the one WWII game that I know of where we fight the Italians in a couple of levels. I seems that a lot of WWII media forgets that the US was at war with Italy until they dropped out in 1943. I wish there were more WWII games that would feature the minor axis powers such as Thailand, Hungary or Finland.
beside having not played it in years, the dialogue cutscenes in the desert are something I have been thinking of frequently during the years of my adulthood up until now. great review that made me think about a lot of fun hours back in the teen days lol
Great Review! I remember playing this one and appreciating the variety of locations in the campaign. Id love continuing with WW2 if you would cover the Brothers in Arms games or Company of Heroes.
This was my first call of duty I ever played. And I absolutely loved it to death. Forged my love of history and WW2 in general. Made me get finest hour and then Call of duty 3
When i was younger my grandpa vito built model warplanes so then one day im at my cousins playing this then he lets me play the b24 mission and holy shit i fell in love with it lmaooo
God I miss it so much. I definitely remember playing the d day mission. I still want a pc port (like 3 was supposed to as well but couldn’t cause of time)
Great videos man, loving your retrospectives. Highly recommend checking out CoD: World at War: Final Fronts. It's definitely an odd duck in the collection
COD 2: Big Red One, was my first ever Call of Duty, and one of my first WW2 videogames, hell, one of the first videogames I ever played. I remember being jealous when I saw the "actual" Call of Duty 2, it looked like it had better graphics, and regenerating health seemed awesome to me. But the story and characters of Big Red One are so vastly superior to any WW2 Call of Duty ever released. World at War is very good too, but Big Red One is like a budget Band of Brothers. You start with them in Africa, fighting the French (how many games you know showcasing that aspect of WW2?), then you follow them through Italy and all the way to the Battle of the Bulge. Throughout the game, characters die, replacements arrive and characters actually evolve. Sure, you don't get to experience the Russian front, or the Pacific, but you get to feel like you're actually there, you and your squadmates. Also, despite the games limited graphical fidelity, they still manage to make the whole thing feel gritty. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. I think this game set my expectations for WW2 games tremendously high, and not much has come close since, apart from Brothers In Arms.
Couldn't agree more. I grew up on the "actual" Call of Duty 2 and sure it has better graphics and gunplay, but it's missing characters, story, overall cohesion and direction.
And my final classic Call of Duty review. I can't believe I have never played Big Red One before - I loved it.

I’ll never get tired of hearing Kelly yell at the tops of his lungs “oh god…..MEDIC”
😢
That's Muck from Band of Brothers for ya
This game, Finest hour, Final Fronts, 3 and all of the medal of honor games are the reason why i am obsessed with WW2. Playing all of these with my dad as kid will forever be a core memory. I love them all dearly. Brooklyns death shattered me
Watching BoB and seeing Brooklyn is kinda funny how chill and talktive he is when Guarnere is more gung ho at taking the fights to the krauts lol
Dude I legit just finished big red one last night and Brooklyns death had me in distraught
This one will always be my favorite CoD campaign, to see a remake or remaster even would be amazing

My favorite eyeglass wearer character in war games.
Nice observation! Kelly was pretty cool

Damn I remember having fun memories with my cousin back then too. It's too bad we don't get in touch with each other anymore.
i was blewn away by the possibility to walk around in that bomber and look at the interieur with all it it's details. great great great
I replayed it recently and noticed a funny little mistake when reaching the ball turret. There's no waist gunners lol

The transition from the original graphics to emulated was like putting on rose tinted glasses from my childhood.
The first cod I ever played. Always has a special place in my heart
Activision and Microsft need to make this available for the Series X/S
I agree. Setting this up on the emulator was quite a pain.
After CoD if your still having a WW2 itch, I'd recommend Brothers in Arms, the series has an emotional story and interesting tactical gameplay.
Hehe, already on it! An analysis of Road To Hill 30 will be up in the next week or two!
Use Rendroc's Warzone mod to make it feel more authentic too
@@guts-141 oh that sounds intriguing. What does it do?

The AA part in piano Lupo was the bain of my existence.
Haha really? Hmm I don't remember strugfling with that part
@ my guess is I was just bad at leading my shots with the controls
Vic & Bloomfield’s deaths actually made me cry when I first played this.
Fun Fact: Mark Hammil did the voice over for the military channel newsreels between missions
@@apollo4619 no way! I never knew this haha
@TheRealDJANGOVIC One of the reasons is might because he was an actor for The Big Red One movie.
Replayed this many times on Gamecube. Absolutely great game.
This was my first call of duty back in the days... Still holds up to certain degrees
It really does!
I really enjoyed watching you play it live :D If i had to pick a game, id pick medal of honor pacific assault since not alot of the games cover the pacific theater of war
Pacif Assault is definitely on the TODO list!
Never had cod2 only big red one and it is forever in my heart. I still hurt thinking about the main characters that died
I lost count how many times I played this game. The voice acting and story was what always drew me back.
Yep. Unprecedented at the time - at least for Call of Duty
The game becoming "darker" as it progresses seems really unique. Hopefully I get some time to try those old CoD out for myself, looks like I missed out!

Man I just beat Black Ops 6 and I still can't believe what the hell was that awful campaign
I agree mate, I think Call of Duty was the best when it was an almost historically accurate WWII shooter series.
How I loved this game, especially the italian levels

Mainline CoD2 and Brothers in Arms Hells Highway are my favorite WW2 shooters personally
yeah hells highway was good. the most haunting experience I have had was "brothers in arms: road to hill 30". you played that one aswell i guesss?
@@rarerockk I've been mulling over trying to get a hold of road to hill 30 out of nostalgia!

Hah! That's me, but just COD2
Only final fronts left, i like how in big red one and 3 the enemy only ragdoll when hit by melee or explosion tho.
Played the shit out of this game. Classic!
Really nice video, like the vibe of the intro, music, clips and animation.

I couldn’t agree more, best game they ever did !!!
I love this game so much wish we could either get a remake or Microsoft allows it to be backwards compatible
Yeah the fact it's not backwards compatible is a crime
Most "boots on the ground" Call of Duty imo. COD WWII was such a sorry imitation of this game.
I agree CoD WW2 wasn't good. Don't get me started on how bad CoD Vanguard was though.
This was my first CoD.
I have the Legacy Pack paired with Finest Hour on PS2

I’ll be honest I like the “cartoony” and stylized artstyle over realistic. Because sometimes those stick out more, with more intense color contrast
Yeah and it also ages much better
i remember it loved that game
Bring this back on PS5 in High Definition.
I know every damn line. Spent a stupid amount of hours in this game because it was all i had

I still have my Xbox disc of this game. Loved the campaign.
