Many years back, working a yard job in Los Angeles, I pulled the drawbar out of a boxcar. I contacted the yardmaster and he said "OK, just set it over to the Rip Track"(without a drawbar?)
I enjoy your videos, in this one I'd like to note that the knuckle didn't appear to fail, this is the entire drawbar. These can weigh up to 500 lbs by the way and are difficult to move off the track before the defective car can be "dealt with". When the failure is on the leading end of a car, unless another engine is coupled onto the rear end & the car is set out that way, they have to cable such cars to next location like a siding or yard track where we could pull them in & cut them off.
I know that I waited around for several hours to see what they were going to do and it was getting dark when I decided to leave so I didn't see how it was resolved.
Used to live there. This junction is amazing for watching trains. You have the Amtrak station a quarter mile north of the junction, CSX operates trackage at this junction. Also I believe that Kankakee, Beaverville and Southern railroad still interchanges here too.
While everybody is arguing who´s the culprit, i notice 2 trains with potash cars. I love potash. I pour some in my cereal every morning. That event occured on march 3rd 2021, 27 days before NTR went ex dividend at 46 cents on NYSE. 48 now. Was around 53.89 and closed yesterday at 76.27. You can fight among you, but freight cars run because they bring in money to companys and stock holders. So Nutrien (NTR) is a good "steady" money maker. No potash = no corn or soja farming = no food = no railfan filming trains. Canada is world # 1 in potash production and exportation . Those once flashy pink covered hoppers are slowly being replaced by new dull grey ones. OK guys, back to your "fight"....
Whoa ! 😵 How did that happen ? It's bad enough on models in HO SCALE ! I had couplers that came off unglued cheap cement came off my commuter Train If CONN DOT METRO NORTH WALTHERS trains including AMTRAK ex- Metro liner model from Bachmann Trains! 😝😖😡 These are for real ! Yikes ! Good video in action as this happened! 😱😳 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🎥👍
To pull a draw bar you need to put almost a full braking power to stop than release it and open the throttle before it is relieve than bingo, the extreme force pull it apart around the tenth car.
So did they get the broken coupler fixed or not bcause you didn't show them fixing it & that sucks 😕 🤔, your supposed to get the workers fixing the coupler
When is RR Management going to learn, that these 2 & 3 Mile + trains, are a derailment hazard, pulling older private freight cars, that may not be getting proper maintainance? Plus, it hampers firefighters & police vehicles from getting to emergency calls, if they can't get through blocked crossings! Might be making your stock holders happy, you're making money, but it's just plain greedy & stupid, and with hazardous goods you haul, sooner or later it's going to cause a major catastrophe, that's going to cost a lot of lives!
Actually distributed power trains (regardless of length) are far less likely to have such events, as well a incidents caused by in train forces. The issue here was either train handling and/or train marshalling that created excessive in train forces.
@@rjb5847cause those dpus WERE BEFORE the separation. Man, that sounded like the whole unit, not just the coupler. For what reason this happened I don't know and I An only a railfan and NOT a railroader
Appears to be too much slack action caused by poor train handling, You could hear the slack running out with a jerk. Locomotive Operator needs more training.
@@eastcoastrailproductions5559 I guess he probably doesn’t even know what EOCC draft gear is either. Those draw heads have upwards of 5 feet of slack on each end. On 10 eocc cars, that’s over 75 feet of slack. When you combine eocc cushion cars with non eocc, sometimes the extra slack from the eocc cushion drawbars runs out and can tear out a standard draw head. But remember, it’s always the crews fault! Lol. This Joseph guy should go work one of the Class 1s with that logic 😂😂
Ha ha ha! You know nothing about slack action, End Of Car Cushioning devices or just basic railroad operations. Yet you make the assumption the hogger did something wrong.

Call the conductor in the pick up truck, he can fix anything, at least according to the recent Union Pacific video... maybe CSX has another way of doing it!! 🤨

What’s up with all the mid train dpus? Are they purposely running longer, heavier trains?
Yes more is less

Bonjour,
Les locomotives au milieu et fin de convoi sont avec un mécanicien et reçoit les limitations de vitesse par radio ?
No. All radio controlled from the very front unit.
I hear an awful lot of damaged wheels going by! How big does a flat spot have to get to be noisy?
That's a great question

Did they ever repair the bridge involved in the derail crossing the Walbash river
Awesome catch.
Thank you celio
So that's why my dry wall is late!

ChainsawN&W1218, they did more then just brake a knuckle there, good DPU action!👍🛤🚂

@The Railroad Tie Spiker , dang that sucks
@@justinmcclanahan6036 I was told they didn't move it till around seven that night.
Is NS short on locomotives or something? Every video of theirs has foreign power lately
Yes they scraped too many of them back in 2020 like a bunch of idiots.
@@therailroadtiespiker that would do it then smh. Thanks!
@@therailroadtiespikerprobably why stupid Norfolk Southern is buying the Central Maine & Quebec AC4400CWs recently like NS 3987ex-CMQ.
That's what the big heavy chain on the locomotive is for.
Not something u want to have happen at such a busy junction. Nice one Tie Spiker.
Yes you're right and it was being at the right place at the right time for filming it happening. Lol
Where in Lafayette are you shooting this video? Great catch!
From the pedestrian bridge right at the junction
Another good video of the Lafayette area.
Thank you
Yea I can’t wait for my first broken knuckle…
some duct tape and super glue and it will be as good as new
This is a nice video i love it. 👍
Thank you Harold
Nickel Plate and New York Central!
As they say pull my knuckle 👍🏻
I had to replace a broken knuckle a couple of times, but I never had a drawbar pull clear out. That is a real problem.
Ya has to be cabled up or pulled from the other direction
It looks like it may have been more than just the drawbar, some of the cushioning device too.
‘How Tomorrow Moves’. ! 😂
Yep
Well all they can do is push that cut from the other end and set that car out somewhere
First time they ever had a coupler break?
Lol surely did seem like it.
How do they know when a train comes apart
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the brakes will set and you'll loose air pressure.
should be an easy fix in the shops?
That was one ass walk from the front of the train to where the coupler broke?
At least it was a nice day. Lol
Good video
Thank you Dan

Draw bars do fail you know? Doesn’t automatically mean the crew is at fault. Many factors can be involved..
Slack is common. It's basic physics. Could have/most likely looks like a weak car getting pulled the wrong way.
