grouping elements that live in the same region/eco system is always recommended, ie. kick + bass, tops, vocals - this is down to old mixing techniques from years ago when your channel strip only had 12 channels and you had to group the relevant elements. this in turn when you process them together as a whole, makes them somewhat communicate and gel well with each other.
