I love the flip up lights. I am seriously impressed that thing is Y2K compliant before that was actually a thing to worry about. Also nice that it still works after all these years, Nice~!
Very cool. I used to know someone who had a Reatta. But good luck trying to fix that CRT system if it breaks. I used to have an 88 Fiero, and belonged to the Fiero Club. Those cars were cool to drive, but I'm glad those days are long behind me now.
Thankfully the Reatta community has a good few members who really know these cars inside and out (including that CRT!) and there's always options available to either get the screen rebuilt or fully swapped out in the event that mine fails. I'm so fortunate that there are some guys out there who are so passionate about keeping these wield little cars and all of their quirks alive.
Just a little correction! Starting at 1:34 I mention that the touch screen was an optional feature on the Riviera, when in fact it was standard equipment on the Rivs during the 86-89 model years, like the Reatta.
I remember back in the 80s, Buick would release annual car catalogs in the form of an IBM PC "infotainment" application and I was suuuuuper excited for this car just because of how much fun its infotainment thing was. I was 8 when this car came out and was like, OMG I can't wait to have one myself! I still don't have one though.
Those are the ones that came on 3½" floppy disks right? I've seen those pop up online every now and again! I'd love to get a set for myself but of course I would also need to get the proper IBM machine to actually use them too
@@StevesAssortedStuff I remember it coming on 5.25" but it possibly came on both! It was pretty common for things to come on a choice of medium back in the 80s.
Brilliant video! Everything about it is spectacular! This Steve guy has excellent taste. I'm quite envious of both cars shown. Can't wait for the Cadillac video! Interesting that GM chose to misspell the word 'Gauge' in at least 2 spots in the Buick..
Maybe GM wanted to appear fancy by using a weird spelling of gauge? Who knows 😆 As cool as my Reatta is I actually like my Cadillac even more, it's the one car I will NEVER sell. Hopefully I can get it filmed before the winter hits!
Steve! What's up man! Welcome, yeah ever since RWX I finally decided to get off my butt and actually start making videos about my collection. If you ever want to collab on something, hit me up!
You're talking about the backlight for the dashboard buttons when I have my headlights on, correct? They do work on my Reatta, because of how I had the exposure set on my camera you can't really see them in the nighttime shots
Thankfully mine are all still good! The only electrical issues I have on my car is the cassette deck needs a servicing and the radio module that's tucked inside of the center console is showing signs of bad capacitors, when I put the car away for the winter I'm going to pull both out and service them so they are ready to go for next year.
Oh even though I spend the bulk of my video here marveling at the one in my Buick, trust me I still am not a fan of them either. Especially when auto companies cram the HVAC controls into the screen, seriously what's so wrong with the classic three knobs? At least the one here in my Buick has a lot of novelty to it!
When I needed to buy a car in 2012 after the death of my Buick Century, I wanted a Reatta and even test drove one. The lack of rear seats and the unique windshield shape made it just too unrealistic for a daily driver. But I found a 1986 Riviera T type. Great car and the computer touch screen was so cool. I still think the Reatta was one of the most beautiful body shapes. It just needed a more powerful engine for real sporty performance. Unfortunately it was developed in a short time frame when Buick stopped using turbo and superchargers
@@Ontonaut There are people who have managed to swap in a supercharged Series II 3800 into a Reatta, I'm sure that powerplant really brings the car alive! I know some people are a bit iffy on the Reatta's styling but I think it looks gorgeous, particularly the convertibles with the top down. I would love one of those but not having the touch screen is such a dealbreaker for me unfortunately.
Supercharged 3800 would be perfect for that. Buick stopped charging the 3800 after the Grand National and brought it back for the mid 90s Riviera (also a cool body style). But seriously, if you’re going to build a 2 seater, make it zip. Enjoy your classic and don’t drive behind construction trucks. The last thing you need is cracked glass
Probably my Connecticut accent leaking through 😆 For some reason we don't like to pronounce the letter T in this state, so button becomes "buh'nn", mountain becomes "mow'nn", New Britain becomes "Nu Brih'nn", etc. If I really want to confuse others I can always work in some CT-specific colloquialisms, like tag sale (yard sale/garage sale), grinder (sub sandwich), and package store (liquor store)!
Body style is amazing 😮

Sweet car. You don't have just a Reatta, you have the whole deal. 🥰
What a cool experience! ❤ this 🎉
Love the audio tapes intro: "You may not need a car like Reatta, but you're going to want one."
GM wasn't wrong with that statement, that's pretty much my feeling about the car even today! 😆

That is a super sweet car.
this cockpit looks like a car from blade runner, i love it

Having your belt line body colored instead of black looks great. I now own a 91, number 887.
Thanks for sharing. Very cool.

@StevesAssortedStuff yeah dude. I've been so darn busy since the convention. I've been meaning to get with you. I will soon.

был удивлен появлению авто на этом канале, очень качественно снято, как будто вы делаете обзоры автомобилей уже много лет
Oh hell yeah, quirky and cool car
Have to say the whole front of it looks very much like a volvo 480 specially with the corner lights
Hello, fellow Connecticut'er. 😍
I have the car but I wish I had that neon signnn
I found my sign locally on FB Marketplace, honestly I didn't REALLY need it but it was just so dang cool looking I couldn't pass it up!
How long after starting it can I turn the tube on if I live in a winter wonderland?
No background illumination? Can't be the photocell, no code on the diagnostic screen. Inverters?
You're talking about the backlight for the dashboard buttons when I have my headlights on, correct? They do work on my Reatta, because of how I had the exposure set on my camera you can't really see them in the nighttime shots
@@StevesAssortedStuff Awesome! Often either the photocell that does the dimming or the inverters stop working sometime in 30+ years.

Pretty cool then, but touchscreens today, not so much
Touch-screen controls in cars, one of the worst ideas they've ever brought back.

Your pronunciation of the word 'button' is... ?adorable? It distracts me every single time lol. And with a 'tech-centric' channel, it's kinda a lot.
