I think you are talking about the Thucydides Trap. The idea that war is inevitable when a rising power ends up threatening to displace the ruling power. Kinda how some people think Thst war is inevitable between China and US.
"Tilting at Windmills" is another Don Quixote reference and "tilting" is another word for jousting. Rocinante was Don Quixote's horse. Dulcinea (ep 1x01) was the woman Don Quixote was obsessed with saving. When Chrisjen visited Holden's mom the book was out there open and they talked about how much Jimmy liked the story. Don Quixote was all about a guy with delusions of being a noble knight trying to save the world from evil.
I haven’t seen this side of Aaron in a long time. And by side I mean the perfect mix of not paying attention and being completely confident in his contrary opinion 😅.
The battle in orbit over Ganymede started because Mars' ship the Karakum was destroyed by Errinwright and since tensions were so high they just started shooting each other. What happened to the Arboghast over Venus is irrelevant to them right now.
We have known about the Razor Back since season 1, when Miller was on Ceres investigating Julie. In her apartment we learn that she own a racing ship name The Razor Back.
Sadly for Aaron's dreams of peace, people who think like he does tend not to ascend to positions of great political power (certainly not military power).
I think Eric's face at 18:33 was a good representation of how most of us reacted to Aaron's idea of "just don't have tension with other nations and then we can all spend money progressing humanity instead." Gotta love the optimism
Gotta love the Idealism* you mean. Almost everyone with a brain knows this would be best for humanity...in an ideal world. Alas, we do not live in an ideal world. Greed, personal and national interest are what drives the world and the fact that Mars and Earth are actively competing for direly needed ressources makes it nearly impossible to not have tensions between the two planets, especially is there has been bloodshed in the past.
Yes it's a vicious circle, Mars is arming because Earth is arming, so Mars arms more, which in turn makes Earth arm more. Earth and Mars are like the US and the Soviets during the cold war. Neither trusts the other enough, but both have to de-escalate. But someone has to go first. You need two cool heads in charge of both sides at the same time.

37:11 *Eric,* I found the best way to cook something like leftovers in the microwave is to increase the time and lower the power level. It provides a much more evenly cooked meal without destroying any of it. It may take a little time to get used to waiting 3 minutes instead of 1 minute, etc. But as you see it becomes worth it, then it may be less of an issue.
Mars claimed independence, to maintain that independence they must have a military, because earth has a military, so now two militaries exist in the solar system, should they both stop building militaries, easy to say almost impossible to do, unilaterally disarming has never happened, because you leave yourself at the mercy of the military power of your rival. The only way to remove that threat is to win the inevitable war. A war that may well wipe out both Earth and Mars. Humans, what can you do with them.
Mars initially went the peaceful route and focused on terraforming after basically buying their independence with the the plans for the Epstein-drive. Unfortunately a bit down the line tensions over resources increased. Earth has always needed resources due to its vast population and Mars started to need more and more for the terraforming project. Eventually an incident known as the Vesta Blockade happened, where Martian and Earther ships came to blows. After that it became clear to Mars that it needed military strength in order safeguard their goals and started using that strength to cement its position. At this point Mars is the ascendant power. They have parity to Earth in terms of their military and industry but are only getting stronger. Earth fears that if that trend continues Mars will muscle them out and restrict their access to off world resources, which would wreak havoc on the Earth economy.

The Britain (Earth) and America (Mars) analogy actually perfectly explains Errinwright's motivation. If you look at modern day Britain and America, while they have great relations, Britain is definately the weaker of the two and can't do much unilaterally. Britain could not carry out their plans during the Suez crisis as America, the technologically superior ally, decided to go against them. A similar situation with Earth wanting to attack a belter faction, may be opposed by Mars and Earth would be left powerless as Mars would be the technological power and could dictate terms in the alliance just as the USA can do so currently with Britain. He wants to avoid this scenario and deal a blow (and maybe even defeat) to Mars, and maintain Earth as the center of civilisation and the sole power of the solar system.
The difference is that Britain and the US exist in a political situation with hundreds of other entities and aren’t the only 2 nations on Earth. Earth vs Mars with the Belt as a non-entity is a recipe for vicious competition.
