Mr. Bennett paid rapt attention to how the audience responded to Walt Disney's signing in than when he first entered. Genius.

Bennett Cerf often pointed out competitors’ books like he did with the Fred Allen book. Class act.

John made a mistake; JL asked, “ it wouldn’t have anything to do with physical therapy”. The answer was no. So JLWas right but John flipped a card.

Unfortunately, Jerry Lewis, in his attempt at humor, overstepped the bounds of civility and became downright insulting. Then again, maybe he thought he was in vaudeville...

People are grousing about something that was set up as a joke that the lady was already in on. She is heavy set, and she packages diet pills. She herself finds this dichotomy to be a source of amusement. As for his blurting out insults...There is a "rude" streak in a lot of comics...Don Rickles comes to mind...it is part of their persona. Part of his is that he "never grew up." He is a child in a man's body, and children say outrageous things. Were he a choirboy, he would not have been interesting. But when I think of all the marathons he held for Muscular Dystrophy, and his spokesmanship for that charity, By these actions, (and they are actions, not mere words) his maturity and concern for others emerges.

@@leesher1845 true, but it was a different era, and the rules were so much different back then. Nothing like that would be tolerated now.

Back then, acceptable, humorous. Now, in the days of bullying and denying peole their humanity because of their appearance, NOT. I note that Bennet Serf made "inappropriate comments all the time. He started off by noting how "healthy" she was.

The comics were uniformly awful on this show.

Most of them either disrupted the game with their jokes (e.g. Victor Borge, Groucho Marx) or they were just incompetent players... However, quick-witted humorists like Steve Allen and Joey Bishop were great; they could play the game while still working in some relevant wisecracks, so I wouldn't say that all of the comics were bad!

@@p.v.5142 In fact, Jerry Lewis was well known among his peers as smug, egotistical, self-centered, and very disparaging of women in general.
This isn't to say that he wasn't one of the most talented people to ever come down the 'pike, which he was, but he was also a scumbag of the first order.
