My commute to work takes 5 seconds. From my bedroom to my home office. My commute to the office takes 2hrs
And the amount of work done from home in lCanada productivity has taken a significant drop by about 30 percent You do the math why
@@peterbutz642 I don’t know. Can’t speak for everybody. I know my productivity has gone up. I work alone, no socializing in the office and less meetings. It may be an individual thing. If productivity is down for some companies for those working from home. Then it’s something the company is doing wrong
Organizations have KPIs and employees have to meet those. It doesn’t matter where the work is done. If you work from office or home and don’t meet requirements, you will probably be let go. Employers are not in the dark about employee performance.
@@frankieb8591 The reporter literally said: "Productivity was at an all time high" at 2:55. So why are you lying saying it's at a 30% drop? Clown.
Let them work from home so the highways aren’t congested and it will ease traffic for people who cannot work from home.
The unemployed are already doing that.
Tell her to shut her damn mouth, I’m so mad at that woman , she was the first to raise property tax the highest since way back when no one has ever done that
Easy for them to say all of this when they don't have to do actual physical labour.
Next theyll demand to have their employer pay their mortgage bc its part of the work environment. Pure entitlement
Exactly!
@@XetaXones You're useless.
They dont do any actual work either! Just open the email and not reply then do whatever you want. That's the day for these "councilors" aka corrupt officials
and they dont do any actual work either! just open up the email, ignore it, then whatever they want
Let people work from home... turn these buildings into residential units so people have a place to live!!!!!!!
The traffic is bad enough. Also with the cost of living so many people can't afford to live anywhere near downtown or Toronto
lol if Chow campaigned on this she would not have won her election in 2023 because she would be telling people to vote against working from home. Most of her supporters - youth, women and educated immigrants benefit from working from home.😂😂
100% true!
Doesn't this go against Olivia Chow's environmentalist principles of carbon footprint reduction?
Virtue signaling ends once their wallet is about to get even a little lighter.
WFH is just like every other advancement we’ve had in society. It’s disruptive and it provokes change. Instead of trying to bring back the good old days of everyone scrambling to the office every day, let’s embrace the change and adapt. It’s what we’ve always done.
I dont trust giving my personal info to a person working from home, picking their nose and clipping their toenails while in pyjamas. Terrible custy service
@@XetaXones How do you know the guy talking to you in his enclosed office doesn’t have his right index finger bone-deep in his nose when he’s talking with you? Or that he isn’t scratching his ass while explaining your insurance policy to you?
I actually don’t believe your objection anyway. I think you’re a troll.

Amen. I'm not going back because some losers don't have friends and/or hate being around their own family, either.
Being carpooled home, STUCK ON THE GARDINER in gridlock while I watch Mayor Chow talk about her out of touch views on traffic in Toronto...
The woman in black is amazing!!! She's saying what were all thinking. City needs to figure out a different way than forcing everyone to come in
Instead of continuously trying to beat a dead horse here, why doesn't the city and these CEOs just figure out something else to do with those spaces. Just shows they aren't forward thinkers, they just keep falling back on the argument of "oh we are doing this before why does it not work now?" cause it worked for them! not for everyone else who has to go through unbelievably stupid commutes to get to the city.
They can turn it into housing and use separate entrances for office floors etc ,truth is political parties are all full of 💩💩💩💩.
Yes, like hire competent ppl who will actually show up to work!

@@MrJakeMallard yup
Affordable housing would be great with low cost.
Olivia chow is a complete disaster. She is the worst thing that could have happened to Toronto.
Well, she got elected. Sadly, the same people will be instrumental in re - electing Justin.
She needs people commuting Downtown because both the TTC & Green P are losing money with less transit riders and cars entering the city during business hours in the week. Those losses at the TTC & Green P get made up with higher residential and commercial property tax hikes. She already had a tax hike that exceeded inflation unlike Rob Ford & John Tory.😂😂
I agree completely with Tracey. If there is no actual work-related reason for someone to be in the office to perform the job they were hired for, why force them to go in if they’re more productive working from home? And also if they prefer working from home, why is it their responsibility to fill the gaps that government refuses to address?
Rent for a lot of businesses in the downtown core is incredibly expensive and has only increased after the pandemic. Many of the workers being forced backed to offices have not received increases in their pay to match increases in the cost of living, yet you expect them to increase their expenses by paying to commute to the office, and shop for sport when people are struggling to buy groceries.
The world has changed in a major way and government needs to adapt to the current situation. Maybe a lot of office spaces should be repurposed as affordable living spaces.
Productivity is declining, so theyre not working better at all
Adapt to the change! Thank you ladies for expressing what we workers can't
The city is too congested, we need to make more jobs remote. Plus you want people going in everyday paying for transportation costs when they can’t afford a home? Yeah ok.
Olivia Chow has never said or done anything that benefits Torontonians since the day she got elected 😑😑 who voted for her??!! Honestly 😳🙄🙄
Complete and utter morons did, you'd be both surprised and depressed at just how low these peoples IQ's were that they thought chow would be a good option. Like typically the choices are always bad but chow was obviously the worst possible person we could have voted for yet certain people did when there were obviously better options. Its sad but hopefully when all hell breaks loose we can force her out. Like seriously I would have begged John Tory not to resign if I knew she was going to be the next mayor.
Agreed!
Affluent woke people did to answer your question. Those same people are now being shafted by her buddy Trudeau on capital gains.
Quality of life a balanced work life is more important. Workers are already stressed.
Gas is super expensive and carbon tax footprints emissions cost of living is super high so I like to see some data please of emissions went up or down please 🤔
How can this plan work with current traffic? Crazy...
If worked from home would be smoking bowls watching youtube videos and taking naps I would not be very productive at all.
I am more productive working at home than the office. Thank you Tracy❤
If they dont want their job i will happily take it. Unfortunately ppl who get hooked up never get fired no matter how bad or incompetent they are
Or you will get fired because the manager doesn’t like the colour of your shirt…
Go back to the office? I’m way more productive getting work done from home. I save money from not filling my car with gas. My car insurance and car maintenance fees went way down significantly in costs. I take walks after each dinner (work life balance, excerise). Plus with the cost of living soaring upwards the savings from working from home helps a lot. I’m definitely busting my butt to makes things work to wfh. My employer loves that everyone is getting all deadlines done at home. Lastly, my mental and physical state is great…my doctor advised me to keep doing what I’m doing. No to going back to the office.
This society has become a bit lazy I think. I understand not wanting to commute but being at work with everyone else promotes collaboration and is also healthy instead of sitting around all day. Whether it’s actually worth the commute is an interesting question though.
Not to mention it also ensure the security of data
I know people who uses something called a mouse jiggler that prevents their laptop from idling… and they are not working at all for hours or even almost the whole day. If they were to go back this is huge privilege they are losing.
@@ChuckleBooster that sounds like the episode of the Simpsons when Homer stayed home to work (and used a thing to push the same button repeatedly)
No not good idea to return to office. Look at traffic no room on roads. Leave roads open for people need to be there. Emergency calls ,doctors , nurses, etc. It does NOT any sense. Also use the office spaces to accommodate for homes situation. Use the office as homes . Low income apartments.
Downtown office buildings may have to transition to mixed use real estate. There’s a housing crisis! The downtown retailers would benefit from more around the clock customers 7 days per week. Not just during M-F from 9-5!
They are already doing this. The price of Downtown Real Estate and Rents are ridiculous even with the increased supply.
@@Sam19509 I commuted by public transit (GO train & TTC) mostly from West Mississauga to downtown for five years to my full time white collar job and evening Ryerson classes in the late 90s to 00s. It was exhausting, expensive, time-consuming and stressful. Get home at 11pm and wake up at 5am to repeat the work day. Arrrrrgh.
Don't ask us to come; make us feel like we want to come back. What about making the TTC and City transit reliable again? Less safety interruption on TTC and fewer traffic jams from closures and constructions?
Spen money on the highway and stop wasting tax dollars on nonsense like Changing the name of Dundas!
All Chow does is raise taxes
She is the worst mayor that this city has ever seen. She needs to keep her nose out of business that is not hers.
There is no size that fits all solutions. Organizations should compare how productivity has changed since COVID started. For example, the Landlord Tenant Board has become less efficient since they started doing online meetings. The LTB is one organization that should require the employees to come back to the office.
That has more to do with Doug Ford underfunding the Board like he does prisons. He knows most renters and prisoners & their families are not voting for him. He panders to Landlords & Lawyers because he makes them money with easy ways to take advantage of renters and clients in exchange for donations & their votes.
Olivia needs to sit down and do her job not meddle in workplace preferences.
Lot of hair and beauty salon restaurants never deduct income tax to the government how can you deal with it
Theyre not productive at home, theyre lazy and entitled, giving terrible customer service. Not to mention theres no protection of customer information
Join the club if you think so. Benefit from it
You are absolutely right. This is probably the reason why they mainly don’t want to go back.
I know a lot of people aren’t even behind their desk for hours a day or even a full-day when they are supposed to be “working from home”. I even had heard someone moved, lived, and worked from home in another country for over a year when they were not allowed and got away with it. Also, I had seen a guy working on their laptop at a coffee shop and can clearly see a customer’s banking account info - the amount of money they had. I think companies should give allowances to their employees for their public transit commutes and have them back full-time. If not, companies need to up their game on security and don’t allow devices to work outside of the country.
If they don’t like it they can also change jobs to work for a fully remote company.
@@ChuckleBoostermost big companies give their employees and air gapped & encrypted laptop to work remote. And companies already offering perks and benefits to get workers to come to the physical office like on-site gyms, game rooms & free on site lunches & snacks.
@@Sam19509 People get fired for secretly working outside of Canada. It’s also a lot of tax problems if they work in another country. Ya I get it the perks but nothing is worth it if they have to waste an hour to commute to work and have to pay for it. Also, what about those who bought a house or moved over an hour away from Toronto during lockdown? People will still not want to go in if they can lie in bed all day, stay in the PJs, eat at home, and no transportation cost. If Olivia Chow had spoke to all CEOs of all the big banks and agreed to force people back 4-5 days a week, they would have to find jobs outside of the financial industry to find a hybrid/remote jobs. This would really suck for these type of employees if you think about it. They can no longer sneak out of work and pretend to be working…
@@MrJakeMallard im not a lazy worker
Good I worked in a warehouse my entire working career the remote work option wasn't available, of course it wasn't but my point is a lot of other businesses are being hurt by people WFH as we crawl out of the pandemic. I think a lot of people like WFH because they can goof off and scam companies by putting in the minimum amount of time to get by which you can't get away with working at the office. I know people that WFH that leave to run errands when they're supposed to be working.
We crawled out of the pandemic when vaccines became widely available. WFH is a permanent culture change like the internet, cellphones and streaming. We ain’t going back.😂😂
I know people who actually works 1-2 hours a day at max since the lockdown and working from home. It’s whacked. They plug in a device to keep their laptop from idling. The only thing that is staying at home is the laptop with the mouse jiggler.
It’s too congested downtown….and the commute time is too long.
I commuted for 27 years from Courtice to Toronto. Don't miss it, lol
Go back to commuting 6-8 hours a week? Nah, no thanks.
Chow is plain stupid to expect people go back to the office with commuting problems as they are. It would take me 2-3 hours to commute to the office EVERY DAY. When I work from home I can start work at 7:30 instead of 9. Either fix the Gardiner and traffic congestion before you make stupid demands that you are responsible for.
Unemployed From Home UFH is far more severe…
Yes im surprised none of them are getting fired. I cant imagine being this uppity to an employer and still expect to keep the job
@@XetaXones UFH is here to stay…
Shes out of her mind if she thinks anyone is going back to the office
Turn Mayor Building to the Affordable Housing.
Toronto Officers - all are working from home, layoff all and stop collected Taxpayer Funds.
Most outrageous news story I've heard all week. So the Mayor wants to reduce the quality of life of corporate employees just business can make a buck? How about businesses learn to innovate and reach the consumer instead of forcing the consumer to reach them. Governments will always stand by businesses and never employee well being.
But what about climate change? Wouldn’t this work against this glooming issue?
Are they actually working from home?
Actions have consequences. Once the egg is broken, it's broken.
If we had better TTC transit, I would not mind, but we don't, especially along Bathurst. It took me over two hours to get home today. TTC is so out of date and riders too under served. It is pathetic that TTC looks like it is operating in 1964. And there's too many cars downtown adding to all the traffic chaos. Find a better use for those buildings are not put the burden on people to waste money. Most of us bring lunch from home. Mayor Chow has no good ideas or a vision for this city.
She doesn't care. Go to Korea or Japan how amazing transportation there with same tax pay
Remove more car lanes for bike lanes!
Chow is retarded
I work remote love working from my house driving is 2 hrs

And it’s good for the economy

So many boomer takes. How about turn those high rises into condos? You'll get a lot of traffic then
Don't be silly. Tax them!!!
Olivia Chow can easily levy a work from home tax, like 5% of your paychecks belong to Olivia if you don't get back to office 30 hours a week.
She can’t do that she does not have those powers. Only the Feds or the Province can. 😂😂
I have been saying this. If you make 5k a month. That’s $250. That’s like your presto/ttc/gas/lunch money. Not to talk of time lost commuting. I’ll gladly give that to work from home.
@@Sam19509 she can easily add this on property tax. Who is there to stop her?
@@hchalz how does she know who lives in what property works at home? That is probably unconstitutional and even if she could do it would be another rollout mess like the Home Vacancy Tax Declaration.
@@Sam19509 constitution? Did the constitution ever stop Trudeau and Freeland from milking money out of Canadians? Rules are made to be broken.
Not going back to the office ever
Too expensive and congested to commute
Well let’s quit taxing these guys too death with “ pay their fare share “ policy’s . Rents are hight and profit margins are razor thin these days with inflation.
Chow is incompetent and incoherent
Great idea as this would ease up the traffic and public transportation. Just being sarcastic………………………………….
So instead of improving the social, entertainment and night-life of the city, let's force people to commute to the office more, increasing emissions and worsening traffic. Plus, it negatively affects quality of life for many of the people living here. Hmm, thought left-leaning Olivia Chow was elected to not encourage initiatives like this.
Y'all are all jealous you need to fight traffic to go to work... embrace the WFH/hybrid life
Yeh boi
Oooorrrr how about we change those office spaces, renovate them into apartments or condos where people can live....
The complaint against that is that the buildings weren’t built with apartment living in mind. So, a need for more bathrooms and other water fixtures, etc. BUT there are businesses out there set up to retrofit these buildings accordingly so that argument doesn’t stand. Wherever there’s a need there’s an opportunist who sees an opportunity to make money.
So your idea is a good possibility that the politicians and business leaders need to examine more closely. Imagine how many new apartments could be created? I think government should throw in some money too, to ensure low income renters will have new places to live.
And who would be able to afford these miraculous dwellings in downtown Toronto?
@@DougWolfe I Forgot about the "they weren't made with that in mind," but it would definitely help the housing situation.
@@XetaXones I hear ya, I mean, Im in the country just passed Milton but hopefully with more housing on the market, it could help drive prices down for people.
