I don't think most of you know what you're talking about. Fisk goes for it. He is on the edge of his seat, it is exciting how he plays. He is also the master interpreter of Scarlatti, he plays things that most guitarists can't.
I was just about to say this piece has Fisk written all over it...and about some of those Caprices...I wish Paganini would have written 24 for the guitar. Many of them just don't work for guitar...no matter who transcribes them.
incredible facility. honest and easy to understand phrasing. astute attention to musicality. fisk is unmatched. if you don't like his interpretations, you must be jealous or something...
Fisk is a genius!!! and the greatest guitarist I've ever seen... the level of difficulty that he tackles is just inspiring.... and he plays with passion...
It's suppose to done very fast! It's English title is "The Hummimgbird", and the tune is suppose to capture the very very fast flapping of the bird's wings.
He takes a lot of risks with his music and sometimes I find the result clunky (sometimes I find it shockingly awful). But when he gets it read it is f**kin' awesome. You need to have a few mavericks around - they can't all play safe like Williams. Besides no-one can play like Williams at all. A good mix of passion and technique is David Russell.
Haven't heard a guitarist yet who doesn't portray a hummingbird as an extraordinarily aggressive little bugger; and there's was me fooled by all those wildlife programmes showing it to be small and delicate - as well as fast. This sounds like a woodpecker on speed.
@laserdudeman some people collect stamps, some have model trains as hobbies... as you can see on all of Eliot's videos on YT some make a hobby of watching and complaining about his playing... he doesn't care I am sure... too busy traveling the world, making music, teaching, and I am sure making a nice living. I wonder what all these complainers are doing? Nice comment laserdudeman! Eliot rocks!!!
Look to the title of the music: The Hummingbird. This means that the music was made with the purpose of being played AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, like a hummingbird fly. So don't come with this talk "he played too fast, without feeling"
What? he is ? where? Claw technique is bad for the wrist because the position of the hand (on the guitar) makes you pull up but with Classical it is a closing motion witch is much more natural.
Raw power and energy pervade his performance. A relentless driving rhythm propels the music forward with much aplomb and gusto throughout. I'll take energy and verve like that even with perhaps a few not "perfect" notes any day, that's not the point of this music. I value the energy and the passion that Mr. Fisk exudes with much enthusiasm in this rendering. Cheers!
I have no clue who this guy is but according to the many appearances he must be appreciated. Today I listened to a few of his performances on YT and I noticed he likes to play fast stuff. But he is not always accurate in his fingering and sloppy play. What is this about? Does he get paid for the tricks he does on his guitar?
ugh the negative comments make me want to vomit. its like an od on ignorance. if you criticize someone like elliot fisk you've been listening to too much rap. someone please disable comments on the fisk videos :(
hmmmmm no, I respect Eliot who is an incredible guitarists but his playing is always on the edge and in this piece with lots of buzz.. Waaaay better and more clear Marco Tamayo version which is simply insane.
Don't know the piece, so I can't comment on missed or added notes. I remember reading about Fisk in G P magazine - positive words about a former prodigy.
It is unfortunate that there are insults posted here regarding Elliot's playing. He is like the Paganini of guitar, or the Steve Vai of classical guitar. Very brilliant.
Yea, he plays much sloppier compare to his recording CD I have. As far as the speed, sorry I was talking in general how a lot of people comment badly about if someone plays it fast when even though playing flawlessly clean. I don't know... the term virtuoso is missing in their vocabulary or just jealous...?
Just explain the "rythmic disaster" at 0:43. That's not the play with tempo, thats sruggling. As I said it's not the issue of any argument, this is definitly such a bad performance, the only excuse, that this was a live performace (I guess), so he had only one try. Anybody, who doubt what I'm saying, instead giving me a -1, watch Marco Tamayo's El Colibri.
Didn't know raptor could move faster than the humming bird... Usually don't like Fisk's recording. But Fed up with people saying "Oh..playing too fast so this is not a music types of whining..." Non sense!
whenever I hear this clown it reminds me of the time I was watching Olympic skating on TV. some poor guy came out and fell on every single jump. every one of them. my friend turned to me and said "Hell, I can do that!" lol
Eliot has the balls to play with gusto! The wimps complaining are the kind of guitarist who use rubato, (and sensitive facial expressions) for EVERYTHING! In other words-- they need to cheat 'cause they can't reach those hard spots in time.
Perhaps there are many other guitarists who may be technically superior to Mr Fisk, I am not capable to judge it. The only thing I can say is that I would be happy and thankful if I could play this piece like him!
La fresca locura del Maestro Fisk ✔
Was für eine Beherchung der Technik! Bravo!
OMG, Fisk's playing is AMAZING!!! I bet his favorite song as a child was Rimsky Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee"! LOL!!! : )
Fisk is great!
Coming from a guitarist, I have much respect for Mr. Fisk. Great stuff sir!
always that kind of style, the speed, the personality of eliot fisk...
Fantastic performance, caurageous technique and power. That's how guitar should be played.
Geniooooo!!!!
Simply BRILLIANT!!!!
A true master...enjoyed!
This is one of my favorite short pieces and you f**ked it up, Fisk
Agreed! Fisk is great, he has great dynamics and intensity do his playing.
I don't think most of you know what you're talking about. Fisk goes for it. He is on the edge of his seat, it is exciting how he plays. He is also the master interpreter of Scarlatti, he plays things that most guitarists can't.
extra notes, buzzy, choppy, etc, etc ..... another fine Fisk performance.
A shambles indeed.
I was just about to say this piece has Fisk written all over it...and about some of those Caprices...I wish Paganini would have written 24 for the guitar. Many of them just don't work for guitar...no matter who transcribes them.
has anyone heard fisk played a slow piece because i haven't yet.
incredible facility. honest and easy to understand phrasing. astute attention to musicality. fisk is unmatched. if you don't like his interpretations, you must be jealous or something...
Yes!
You're right!
Fisk is a genius!!! and the greatest guitarist I've ever seen... the level of difficulty that he tackles is just inspiring.... and he plays with passion...

Great playing. 5 stars
bravooo!!!!!
The Best!!!:-):-):-)
Right on the money.
ESTO ES LO QUE ME HACE AMAR TANTO LA MÚSICA... LA EXPERIENCIA DEL SONIDO TRASCIENDE TU CUERPO HASTA LLEGAR A TU ALMA!!!
segovia said this guy is unique!! so assholes ..believe it !! segovia could never play like this guy!! he is a genius!!
If the complainers want to hear a slower version, just replay it back at 0.75x or 0.50x, and then shut your hole.
Amazing guitarist
this is actually pretty good..
Wonderful performing of this composition.
Check out "Ricardo Havenstein" and "Gerret Lebuhn" on iTunes. They are students of Mr. Fisk...
Great!!!
Has anyone heard Kazuhito Yamashita play this piece? It makes Fisk sound slow (not that speed matters).
He takes a lot of risks with his music and sometimes I find the result clunky (sometimes I find it shockingly awful). But when he gets it read it is f**kin' awesome. You need to have a few mavericks around - they can't all play safe like Williams. Besides no-one can play like Williams at all. A good mix of passion and technique is David Russell.
is he a self-taught player?
he has played this way for almost 30 years -- it's strange
Haven't heard a guitarist yet who doesn't portray a hummingbird as an extraordinarily aggressive little bugger; and there's was me fooled by all those wildlife programmes showing it to be small and delicate - as well as fast. This sounds like a woodpecker on speed.
Que pulgar tan extraño.
looool
so much for making a beautiful sound
Un sadico vale

I totally agree.
And indeed; Watch marco tamayos performance (the old one, the newly uploaded one is terrible compared to the first).
Ah man, he takes a fuckin repeat ... fuckin funny shit
I can play this guitar today... =] Humphrey 87
Hummingbird to correct myself.lol
In progress..
Not really because i havent really performed this piece.
molto venne
Best I've heard him play - and I'm not normally a fan of the Fisk style (maybe this is the only kind of piece suited to him)
medium performance
@abby161919 Er ist sehr gut. Er versteht was er spielt
wtf 20 years training in the mountains to get to that point
What? he is ? where?
Claw technique is bad for the wrist because the position of the hand (on the guitar) makes you pull up but with Classical it is a closing motion witch is much more natural.
This man is not normal. He CANNOT be normal. The funniest of all is that he considers himself an artist/perfomer of classic guitar. Oh boy, oh boy...
124 people tried to do this and said "Fuck this shit i keep my guitar hero easy mode"

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, dude I dunno if u wanted to be funny... but, with all respect to Fink, of course... THAT was funny
Increíble

Hmm, it's not ike Fisk to rush through a piece...
hahaghaalol
ugh the negative comments make me want to vomit. its like an od on ignorance. if you criticize someone like elliot fisk you've been listening to too much rap. someone please disable comments on the fisk videos :(
sadly, there are too many ignorant comments on fisk.
hahaghaa
haha
@majav15mg hahahahahhhaahaha
I do wish he'd slow down. The music would speak more clearly. Even if he slowed it down half it's better than rushing and ruining!
hmmmmm no, I respect Eliot who is an incredible guitarists but his playing is always on the edge and in this piece with lots of buzz.. Waaaay better and more clear Marco Tamayo version which is simply insane.
the speed might not be the primary problem, but when he does play slow it's quite beautiful, esp. the tone...
Don't know the piece, so I can't comment on missed or added notes. I remember reading about Fisk in G P magazine - positive words about a former prodigy.
AND dont FORGET HE IS PLAYING IN HIS OWN STILE:iT IS A VERY TENSED AND PERCUSSIV WAY OF PROCESSING!!!
It is unfortunate that there are insults posted here regarding Elliot's playing. He is like the Paganini of guitar, or the Steve Vai of classical guitar. Very brilliant.
@robbiebax
The humming is on heat
bien, pero no era tan rápido.
Y porfavor... se nos muere Fisk.
Que toque por gusto, no porque si

I love this song, but it seems like he is only playing it go as fast as possible. You can barely hear the notes.
Just explain the "rythmic disaster" at 0:43. That's not the play with tempo, thats sruggling.

His sound is dirty.
elliot fisk is one of the INDEFATIGABLESSEST GUITARPLAYER ON EARTH!!!TRY TO DO BETTER AND SHOW DONT BRUBBLE!!!
Fisk bashing anyone?
Yeah, after the second view, I'm sure, he must be drunk or I don't konw, this is a definitely bad performance, no doubt.
Didn't know raptor could move faster than the humming bird...
Usually don't like Fisk's recording. But Fed up with people saying "Oh..playing too fast so this is not a music types of whining..." Non sense!
whenever I hear this clown it reminds me of the time I was watching Olympic skating on TV. some poor guy came out and fell on every single jump. every one of them. my friend turned to me and said "Hell, I can do that!" lol
i am still learning it, but i would only play it in front of an audience if twas perfect
Eliot has the balls to play with gusto! The wimps complaining are the kind of guitarist who use rubato, (and sensitive facial expressions) for EVERYTHING! In other words-- they need to cheat 'cause they can't reach those hard spots in time.
Fisk always transmits anxiety
''Um poco mas y sale volando el picaflor'' HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAH
insane
That's supposed to be a hummingbird? Sounds more like a galloping raging farting bull in china shop...
You are perfectly right. Just another beautiful song ruined by Fisk. I really can't believe that Segovia vasted his time with this guy.
Don't understand why so many players play that last diminished arpeggio so out of rhythm, the mighty Williams included.
Perhaps there are many other guitarists who may be technically superior to Mr Fisk, I am not capable to judge it. The only thing I can say is that I would be happy and thankful if I could play this piece like him!
gymnastics? are you sure about that?
