Nice experiment! i have done it myself as a former pre diabetic, I have to make sure that what I eat makes sense to my metabolism only. However, It can be a learning experience for everyone. I also can eat the occasional sm apple, and small fruits in sensible portion. I grew up eating lots of bananas and tropical fruits, that were contributing to my problem mainly because I was skipping meals and replaced with 2 or 3 bananas, in the name of work. I been avoiding them for a while, but since my learning curb is still going, after experimenting different ways I found that I can eat the 1 sm banana occasionally and if I add some fat and protein, like in your experiment it will not spike me too much. I prefer to limit high glycemic foods, but I am not eliminating completely. Besides, I have also increased my physical activity, which helps to keep my insulin sensitivity in check. Thanks and take care.
I'm learning so much. I have stated making videos to teach others as well and thanks to you one had some incredible results and I understand what to look for. I never knew this information before. Thank you so much.
Hi! The results are extremely helpful! I really like mango and pineapple. If you would please do your blood sugar experiment with them. Also, have you considered doing comparison between all the berries: blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, cranberries…Thanks!
Thank You for testing - blueberries, apple, ripe banana ( big spike ), ripe banana + almond butter + hemp seeds . Combining protein and healthy fat with carbs is the way to go ! Individual testing of foods is not realistic for eating patterns.
A continuous glucose monitor would show you what you may have missed before, after and between measurements. Sometimes, the spikes are quick and go away quickly, which is fine. Sometimes the spike is delayed. Exercise immediately after can help drive the glucose into your muscles. Hence, walking after a meal is good for that and other reasons. Milk likely prompted an insulin response which may have lowered your blood sugar, but yes, blueberries are very moderate.
I am pre diabetic, but haven't done any testing. I'm finding out gradually what to eat. I'm eating steel cut oats and would be interested in how they compare to large rolled oats (not the quick cook). Thanks in advance. I'll be 80 yrs old tomorrow 😊
I am type 2. For lunch, I mix sliced apple, sliced Kiwi, and some blueberries; along with a bit of plain yogurt. Filling, and tastes great. From no spike, to a spike of 20. Just get exercise and avoid: white flour, processed sugar, potatoes, white rice, and processed meats. Diabetic or not.
Very interesting and useful info. Just started looking into insulin resistance and heard of combining proteins but you actually proved it. Thank you for taking your time to demonstrate. Loved it!
excellent video. just curious, was the banana the exact same weight as the other fruits? how often was the experiment repeated to show that results were consistent?
Thanks for watching! I did not repeat the experiment over and over, nor did I make sure the fruits weighed exactly the same in oz. I just utilized a generic serving size. This isn't meant to be a scientific experiment that takes into account validity and reliability. I was just testing my blood sugar out of curiosity to see how my body responded and wanted to share what I found.
Great video! I think that banana is not a medium one. It looks more like a large one. One large banana is two servings of fruit. So I think the banana you ate is more like two servings of fruit, thus will create a higher spike in blood sugar. Next time try this with a half a banana or a greener one with more resistant starch.
Thanks for the suggestion! I usually try to grab the largest bananas for my boys so I wouldn't be surprised if this banana was bigger than the average serving size!
Yes, you got very interesting results. Specially that in which you combine banana with peanut butter. I know that it should reduce the blood sugar spike, but I never expected that the effect would be so much. 👌🏾 Anyway, I think that even a blood sugar increase to 120 is okay if a person like me has not insulin resistance and is physically active. I mean, a bababa cannot be wrong after a workout session.
@@thegoodenoughmama question: so I should eat protein and fats with my carbs? I thought I should eat FIBER with carbs to reduce glucose spikes. Iam confused.

Great video and thank you for sharing the extensive experiments you did. I was wondering if you have tried CGM to avoid having to prick your fingers. Something like a Libre 3.
I've tried the Freestyle Libre 14 day sensor many times but didn't find the accuracy to be very good. It always showed blood sugar readings that were way lower than my actual levels. I may go back to it at some point and try again. Maybe the Libre 3 will be better! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your informative videos. I was wondering if you can recommend an A1C home kit test that can be accurate and comparable with the lab test. Thanks.
Keep in mind I'm not type 2 diabetic. I'm insulin resistant and have had an a1c in the pre-diabetic range. I'm trying to take preventative measures for what will likely progress into type 2 if I'm not careful.
Great experiment! I did calorie restriction for 18 months and during that period I learned to remove bananas from my diet due to their high calories. I ate one small apple of about 80 calories per day. Then I learned to switch to blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries because they offer antioxidants and low sugar. Now I eat bananas on the weekends just to enjoy them, but I don't eat them everyday.
@user-we1qt6ze5v great job on losing weight with eating bananas. You're right, I may be wrong about bananas, but they do have more sugar than some fruits.
Thank you for this experiment and the knowledge you gained and shared with us. However, I faced a technical challenge. Your video paused and went to the beginning of the section every 10 to 15 seconds. It was a pain. But I managed to watch the whole video by jumping ahead into the next segment. Thank you again.
I’d be interested in knowing how different varieties of apples (gala, Fuji, Granny Smith, etc) affect blood sugar. I keep reading that Granny Smith are the best choice for folks like us. But since you don’t care much for apples, don’t feel obligated, you do enough! 🥰 How do you feel about testing out strawberries? They’re supposed to be glucose friendly. I’m also wondering about watermelon, it’s my favorite fruit & a staple in my home during the summer.
Thank you for these suggestions! Another viewer also asked to compare granny smith to other apples so now I'm curious. Noting strawberries and watermelon!
When you measure your blood sugar in the morning it can be high because of the dawn phenomenon. When you first wake up your body makes more glucose to help you start your day.
I love your experiments/video info. I’m curious as to how to get your morning levels as low as they are. Mine are often between 105-118 to start when I test (about 6:30-7 AM).

Hello there! So glad I stumbled upon your channel. I really appreciate you performing this experiment! It was helpful to see. I am insulin resistant too, and also pre diabetic. Like you, I want to figure out a moderate way to live a lower carb lifestyle. I recently started using a CGM monitor and have learned that half servings of certain fruits like mango and large apples seem to be ok, and small apples and oranges are safe. Funny thing, to date I’ve shied away from bananas 😮 It’s interesting how we have so much fear about bananas, and rightly so based on your research. I think I will try half of one with nut butter for an experiment! It was nice to see that some of the rules we follow, like blueberries and bananas are rooted in truth! Thank you for sharing your family and for being a human pincushion for us 😂❤ Hope the remodel went well 😀Be blessed!
Wow, ty for sharing this information. I'm type 2 newly diagnosed back in August of 2023 and Dr said I didn't need to start testing my blood yet. Go back for next A1c check in March 1st. I did drop 41 pounds and cut all white bread, pasta, processed foods and breakfast cereals n only use almond milk unsweetened. Guess I'll buy a meter after my checkup if still not controlled, but thanks for giving myself a idea how n when to do it. This has been a heck of a new journey for myself being 53. But I am determined to put into remission. 🙏
Like what you did there but also wanted to point out that even amongst diabetics, we react to diff foods differently. Btw, you’re probably experiencing the Dawn Phenomenon- high blood sugar numbers early in the morning.
Correct! According to the duration of being diabetic and how one has maintained glycaemic control over the years determines how one response to different foods .
I think the results reflect mostly your overall good metabolic health. BTW a glucose reading of 95 and then 99 could just be variability of the meter. Try doing two tests right away. You'll see that you can easily see at least a 5 point swing between tests taken right after each other. The meters aren't always super accurate. Also, an hour after eating the fruit is time enough for the insulin response in your system to have lowered your blood sugar naturally. I'd be much more interested to see what happens in a shorter time frame.
I’ve only just came across your channel and I have watched a few videos and think your amazing for providing information like this to the public it really helps us, so thank you. I felt even more connected to your videos when I saw that you have PCOS ; as I do too and have found that the better my diet is the better my cycle regulates and I feel good. Although it’s not easy sometimes but instead of seeing PCOS as a curse like I use to when I got Diagnosed with PCOS at 16 (I’m now coming up to 28 in three days from today😂🥳) I have started to see it more as a blessing because it pushes me to be more healthy and keep to a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Although the frustration part for me can be family and friends don’t understand PCOS as much and think sugar food is ok once in a blue moon but it makes me feel unwell if I eat processed foods with artificial sugars. I know your not a doctor by any means but I was wondering out of curiosity…do you think genetics also play apart of how different foods affect our blood? Anyway keep up the good work, you have a new subbie:).
Thanks for sharing a part of your story! It's amazing that you've been able to make adjustments in your lifestyle to better your health! I've read time and time again how strong of a role genetics plays. Unfortunately for me, genetics is not part of the equation since PCOS or metabolic dysfunction doesn't run in my family 🙁
HI! Search about Vitex Agnus Castus to regulate the menstrual cycle. You won't have to use it more than a few month then never again, becouse you won't need it anymore. But it does not help much with the excesive hair that is common in PCOS
Surprisingly I have no issues with watermelon significantly raising my blood sugar. I had some the other day and only had a 10 point rise so not a problem.
I can eat half an apple without triggering my sugar go too high. Blueberries are safe for me as long as I don't overdo it. Banana on the other hand I can't eat at all. Even pairing it with high protein and fats. Wake up sugar 98 ate a medium sized banana and my sugar jumped to 286. Tried eating half of a small banana result were better but still too high, 247. After trying out many different experiments, I ended up deciding to stay far away from banana. Thank you for sharing!
I love that you tried eating the banana a few different ways before deciding it was a no-go for you. We each individually know our bodies best and have to make the healthiest decision for ourselves!
Interesting results. I'm the opposite! I have been eating an apple a day for the last 10 years (an apple a day keeps the doctor away) and I always eat it with peanut butter, I just love the taste of them together. I started using a CGM recently, and I noticed when I have an apple with peanut butter it spikes my glucose to 160!!! Worse than brown rice! Blueberries still spikes a little but not as bad as apple, about 135. When I have banana, it's about the same as a handful of blueberries..... And like you, I thought banana was the demon and apple is better. I guess everyone's body is different, need to find the right fruit for our own body.
Wow, that is so fascinating, thanks for sharing! I'm shocked that bananas and blueberries have the same effect for you. I also love eating apples and peanut butter and found that it was always a good combo for my blood sugar. Truly, everyone is so different!
Talking about fruits, have you ever tested how mangoes affect blood sugar? I would love to know how mangoes fare compared to bananas. Mango is a fruit I have a hard time saying no to during summer.
If a person is not diabetic, there is no problem eating fruits because the body can easily adjust to it. But if you are already insulin resistant, that is the problem that has to be addressed first before eating any fruits including sugar and carbohydrates...
When you eat foods high in sugar like fruit, blood levels reflect that. That’s called the chemical processes the body goes through to digest the fruit or bread. unless your diabetic and or really over weight. Don’t worry about it
"Normal", yes, as that's how our bodies work...but the negatives associated with blood sugar spikes (increased insulin levels, insulin resistance, etc) remain. The ideal blood sugar response to a particular food is no response at all, so minimizing the spike as much as possible is best.
If your blood sugar comes back down, it means your body is working how it's supposed to. But it might be working really hard and can burn out at some point in time. I've done an insulin test and it shows my insulin response working overtime :(
A spike of 30pts is not good for anyone, but especially if insulin resistant. The fructose in bananas is also not good for your liver. The modern bananas we have were not bred with health in mind.
Thank you so much for the video!! I am hypoglycemic, so I took this information backwards. I guess that means foods like bananas and grapes should be my go-to and not blueberries. This was really helpful, and now I'm thinking about doing this myself to reduce the immediate drops that I experience daily.
I think what you're saying only applies to direct fructose without the aid of fiber, so high fructose corn syrup and fruit juices. A huge issue with eating processed foods is that your body doesn't have to break them down nearly as much (or at all) to get to the caloric value.
Apples and blueberries are my safe fruits. I hope to advance to cantaloupe this summer. I eat my apple chopped up in my breakfast salad*. Im trying to keep some banana in my rotation for serotonin and colon. They can be appetite triggering so i have to be careful. But i can eat 2-3 apples and 2-3 C frozen blueberries within a day as long as i have lots of greens and cruciferous veggies. Also intermittent fasting & strength training treat me very well. Usually 14-18 hours. Once a week i do a longer 20-22hr fast. Having more muscle on my body has greatly helped handle glucose well. *Breakfast Salad: Fine chop - cabbage, celery, bell pepper, 1 apple, radish, jicama, baby kale, romaine, ground fennel, celery seed, fairchilds ACV, dash stevia, dash salt
I just watched a video promoting vinegar for diabetics and she said the benefit is that it shows down the process, so that you don't get spikes. That was true in your account video.

Hi! The results are extremely helpful! I really like mango and pineapple. If you would please do your blood sugar experiment with them. Also, have you considered doing comparison between all the berries: blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, cranberries…Thanks!
Thank you for these suggestions!
Mangos are hi sugar we know.
Thanks for these real life experiments
Thank You for testing - blueberries, apple, ripe banana ( big spike ), ripe banana + almond butter + hemp seeds . Combining protein and healthy fat with carbs is the way to go ! Individual testing of foods is not realistic for eating patterns.
Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
Banana dipped in tahini 👌
Great video. Appreciate your effort. The kid and dog are great additions👍
Thanks for sharing! I've used CGMs frequently and I do love that they show you everything!
Well done! Very worthwhile presentation.
Thank you for watching!
so happy i found your channel love this!
Thanks for watching!
I think 1 apple , orange or banana may be good for health. Bluberry is not sweet. Anyway good info experimental. Thanx.
I have the great sugar in fruit debate ALL THE TIME! Thank you for making this video and SHOWING how the sugar in fruit is totally safe and fine!
No it's not.
You're just advocating and apologizing your addiction.
Thank you. It really helps to see these results.
That lunch sounds delicious.
Ditch the carbs altogether and your type 2 will be gone for good.

Very interesting and useful info. Just started looking into insulin resistance and heard of combining proteins but you actually proved it. Thank you for taking your time to demonstrate. Loved it!
I really enjoy watching your videos. Very insightful. 😊
Thank you!
excellent video. just curious, was the banana the exact same weight as the other fruits? how often was the experiment repeated to show that results were consistent?
Thanks for watching! I did not repeat the experiment over and over, nor did I make sure the fruits weighed exactly the same in oz. I just utilized a generic serving size. This isn't meant to be a scientific experiment that takes into account validity and reliability. I was just testing my blood sugar out of curiosity to see how my body responded and wanted to share what I found.
Great video! I think that banana is not a medium one. It looks more like a large one. One large banana is two servings of fruit. So
I think the banana you ate is more like two servings of fruit, thus will create a higher spike in blood sugar. Next time try this with a half a banana or a greener one with more resistant starch.
Thanks for the suggestion! I usually try to grab the largest bananas for my boys so I wouldn't be surprised if this banana was bigger than the average serving size!
My thoughts exactly! Thanks for pointing it out
Yes, you got very interesting results. Specially that in which you combine banana with peanut butter. I know that it should reduce the blood sugar spike, but I never expected that the effect would be so much. 👌🏾
Anyway, I think that even a blood sugar increase to 120 is okay if a person like me has not insulin resistance and is physically active. I mean, a bababa cannot be wrong after a workout session.
Excellent experiment, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
@@thegoodenoughmama question: so I should eat protein and fats with my carbs? I thought I should eat FIBER with carbs to reduce glucose spikes. Iam confused.
@@CarlosSantana-we6ts Fiber is great, too!
you are really vey intelligent..systematic and well documented. I appreciate it.
I am in the begning of understanding hypogl...or diabetic. Your blog hlps a lot.
Thank you for testing the fruits. Your helpful all of us. I am having Greek yogurt with blueberries.❤
Greek yogurt with blueberries is such a great blood sugar friendly meal! Thanks for watching.
I too eat plain greek yogurt with blue berries❤
Thanks.
I've never used an at-home a1c kit so I can't give you any recommendations unfortunately :(
Ive seen people spike really bad from one banana… yours was fine and within normal range 🤷🏻♀️
Keep in mind I'm not type 2 diabetic. I'm insulin resistant and have had an a1c in the pre-diabetic range. I'm trying to take preventative measures for what will likely progress into type 2 if I'm not careful.
@@thegoodenoughmama yea I get your being safe. Iim only saying this would be considered normal and allowable for a non diabetic.
@@Mamaohhh04that true that number is for normal blood also
Great experiment!
How weird! Must be a youtube glitch. Sorry it was hard to watch!
Thanks for making this video! Since health is a big mystery for many of us. More videos, please.
Thanks for watching!
Really great content, thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for watching!
I eat granny smiths
When you measure your blood sugar in the morning it can be high because of the dawn phenomenon. When you first wake up your body makes more glucose to help you start your day.
This is true!
Well constructed video ,and interesting , thank you .
Thank you for watching!
I love your experiments/video info. I’m curious as to how to get your morning levels as low as they are. Mine are often between 105-118 to start when I test (about 6:30-7 AM).
Fantastic experiment!!!
👍🎩👌
Great job!!🤗
Thanks for watching!
This is interesting, thanks for making this video^^
What device did you use to measure your blood glucose? Are there any that you would recommend?
I have an older version of this one and it's been my favorite out of 3 glucometers I've used amzn.to/3IJsVDY

Thanks for sharing your personal experience with me and for your well wishes! Remodel still in process 😅 but almost done!
Sister you gave good information to use almond butter and nut with banana. Thanks
Thank you for the tests!!
You're welcome!
Sounds like you're on the right track and working hard for your health! 💪
❤ it the way you do your test . Me to really concern on my test .
Watermelon and potatoes should be interesting to test since its GI value is thru the roof!

Surprisingly I have no issues with watermelon significantly raising my blood sugar. I had some the other day and only had a 10 point rise so not a problem.
Your videos are so helpful, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I don’t have a request. Just happy to follow along. 😊
Thanks so much for watching! :)
You have insulin resistance. Hopefully you are fasting 18 hours daily to reverse it.
Great video I am new to your channel very much appreciated what you are doing for us diabetes
Greetings from Perth Western Australia
Talking about fruits, have you ever tested how mangoes affect blood sugar? I would love to know how mangoes fare compared to bananas. Mango is a fruit I have a hard time saying no to during summer.
Mangoes will spike your blood sugar like crazy...
I plan to test mango! Thanks for the suggestion
I would love to see a test for strawberries and green grapes as well. Nevermind, I just noticed you did a part 2 of the other fruits as well. LOL
If a person is not diabetic, there is no problem eating fruits because the body can easily adjust to it. But if you are already insulin resistant, that is the problem that has to be addressed first before eating any fruits including sugar and carbohydrates...
Thank you for putting it in simple and understandable terms.
To simple and verry understanble
Safe to say , eating a lot of fruits gives you massive cavities
Hi Maam Good day. I wish to know what is the name brand of your glocumeter testing . Thank you in advance for your answer
Hello, in this video I am using an older version of the Contour Next amzn.to/3yhj9Ho
I would love to see a video on inositol supplements and their impact on blood sugar level
Thanks for the suggestion! Will have to do more research on inositol
Thank you! Consider comparing cooked rice vs cold rice, white rice vs brown. Frozen ripe bananas vs room temp ripe. Also, cold pasta vs hot pasta.
When you eat foods high in sugar like fruit, blood levels reflect that. That’s called the chemical processes the body goes through to digest the fruit or bread. unless your diabetic and or really over weight. Don’t worry about it
I'm insulin resistant and have gestational diabetes so I like being proactive about my health given my metabolic functioning is already compromised.
This is really interesting and useful. Blood sugar spikes are normal if they come back down soon enough though?
"Normal", yes, as that's how our bodies work...but the negatives associated with blood sugar spikes (increased insulin levels, insulin resistance, etc) remain. The ideal blood sugar response to a particular food is no response at all, so minimizing the spike as much as possible is best.
If your blood sugar comes back down, it means your body is working how it's supposed to. But it might be working really hard and can burn out at some point in time. I've done an insulin test and it shows my insulin response working overtime :(
what's wrong with a 120 blood sugar level after eating a banana? that's normal stop freaking out.
Thanks for the feedback!
Right that’s not true food we eat can spike between 120 to 140 is good we are going to spike when we eat regardless just don’t want it to be very high
A spike of 30pts is not good for anyone, but especially if insulin resistant. The fructose in bananas is also not good for your liver. The modern bananas we have were not bred with health in mind.
Thank you so much, will be using your helpful ideas.
This was soooo informative. Thanks
Thank you!
I love blueberries and apples. And yes bananas Good info. Thanks
Thank you! For your help...
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for the video!! I am hypoglycemic, so I took this information backwards. I guess that means foods like bananas and grapes should be my go-to and not blueberries. This was really helpful, and now I'm thinking about doing this myself to reduce the immediate drops that I experience daily.
Doesn't fructose, sugar from fuit, go directly to the liver? And blood sugar tests for glucose?
Fructose is converted to glucose by the small intestine and liver...so testing for blood glucose will account for the fructose ingested.
I think what you're saying only applies to direct fructose without the aid of fiber, so high fructose corn syrup and fruit juices. A huge issue with eating processed foods is that your body doesn't have to break them down nearly as much (or at all) to get to the caloric value.
Hi, May I know what brand and where can I get the blood sugar tester? Thank you very much.
Hello, I'm using an older version of the Contour Next One amzn.to/3yhj9Ho
once again, thank you.
I need you to come and make me that salad! Sounds yum.
Sounds like you have a great grasp on your health!
Hello mama again…I still use my blood meter but CGM..is so much better then pricking your poor little fingers so much such a relief
I don't mind the finger pricking :) Thanks for looking out!
I just watched a video promoting vinegar for diabetics and she said the benefit is that it shows down the process, so that you don't get spikes. That was true in your account video.
Apple, Berries, Black pulp, Peach are good fruits for diabetic patient
You are doing great work we love your work
