We would hear them coming, and all of us kids would run outside and look up as they screamed overhead. Great memories!

I remember going to the 1988 London Ontario Canada airshow where they had 30 f-4’s lined up for the 30th anniversary of flight. I was 14 years old:). Very good memories for sure.

I worked on these turkeys (the F4's) for VF-102 outta NAS OCEANA, VA. Hated to work on them but oh, their speed & power! Spent 50% of our time on the boat! Hated the boat, but loved the flight deck! To be beside one of those at launch was HEAVEN!

Vastly so, and still are faster and with higher ceilings than the F-16 and F-35. 20 km of internal wiring have been replaced with lighter wiring, making the plane 750 kg lighter. Most of the modernization was done by Israel and these planes are designated Terminator 2020.
back in the day, my uncle was conscripted into istanbul-şile air defense base as a lieutenant to command some oerlikons. during my visit, i remember those mofos flying around for anti-air radar calibrations. coolest of all times imo.
When we were on the boat, we had 24 Phantoms, a squadron of Vigilantes, a squadron of A4's, and a squadron of Intruders. We weren't worried about being picked on! It was great to have such diverse aircraft aboard!! On the flight deck, you just had to pay attention! I would love to spend another 3 to 5 days. 7 months? HECK NOOOOO!
Phantoms are considered Vintage because after came F16 which are also being retired slowly in most airforces but it has been a very successful fighter Jet and Turkish Airfoce have done well to keep upgrading them & keep flying them
My uncle was on the flight deck involved with bombs and missiles when these bad boys were launched off of the Saratoga in Vietnam. Can't imagine doing that. Still a intimidating jet.
@BledaTurk The engines, up front at the intakes, are so very loud. They just scream! Speaking of screaming, when the Phantoms are at, or near Mach 2, that's a wonderful scream! One heck of an aircraft, designed for the U.S. Navy, but then the U.S. Air Force said, "We want 'em too!" Of course, what the Navy got, so did the Marines! Over 5,000 were built!
The record was set with F4 in Iranian airforce intheir war with Iraq. Even usar acknowledgesthe number of Planes Shot down by Iranians set a world record!

They did perform well, I was in Thailand where they did reconnaissance and bombing missions. Yes, they did sometimes tangle with the mig-21 and did well against them. But migs would try to ambush the Phantoms then run and hide in China.

These must have modern engines, the old ones blew smoke on high throttle..Nicest plane ever,,wing kink was for a reason, but looks cool..

I repaired the radar on this plane for 4 years in the USAF. It is the F-4E model with the gatlin under the radome.
