Arabic and learned English by opening too many English UA-cam videos and watching them all with the intent of understanding words

Your English is fluent so well done on a great achievement. To improve further, I would recommend you work on our prepositions. For example, it's "on their own" or "(all) by themselves". However, you can't swap the prepositions over. A very useful book for mastering advanced English is "English Collocation In Use" as advanced English is largely phrasal - words that simply go together. I hope this helps.
I agree that it's not a good idea to learn two similar languages at the same time. Cognates are useful but can lead to mixing as the brain is not yet familiar enough with both to separate them out.

I think what stops most people from studying another language is that they don't truly believe that they can learn a foreign language. I speak Canadian English as my first language, learnt French in school and then self-studied because I wasn't satisfied with my level. I have about a B2 speaking level in Spanish which I started learning about six months ago (but had to take three months off due to being on bedrest) and I find it VERY easy to read in that language because it's so similar to French. I also write articles in Nigerian Creole and listen to audiobooks too because I think it's a beautiful language. Right now I'm working on Ukrainian, Romanian, Egyptian Arabic, Welsh, and Irish. I try to get a little bit of exposure in each language every day, but I don't stress out if I miss a few days. Because I study so intensely I think it's important for me to take a lot of breaks. Besides, your brain continues to digest things you've learnt when you're not actively learning (sleeping, meditating, working on smth in the flow state) so I know my brain is still doing its thing! My goal is to learn all the languages of the UN plus some other ones that interest me. 🥳 I don't find studying stressful very often because I really do enjoy it lol.
