This woman deserved so much more in terms of roles and films!!! I mean she had a 5 minute scene in Bobby and left such an impression as a mentally challenged woman. She was only 48 and she was portraying Daadi in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and that truly is so disheartening that all she got from the 90s onwards was daadi/chachi roles. I truly yearn and hope that OTT and streaming will provide her with new opportunities to truly showcase how talented she is.
Somehow I always thought Yash Johar was dead by the time Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was made. The fact that DDLJ and KKHH are promoted as Adi and KJo films itself speaks about the nepo launch these two got without doing anything. Their parents made the films and labelled them with their names. That's all. SRK cracked this nepo circle somehow, otherwise, it seems the last generation when a non-nepo was a star front or behind the camera was probably in the 80s. This is the reason Hindi cinema is declining this badly.

It all depends on the script. Aditya Chopra also wrote the script of _Dil to Pagal Hai,_ and there she played aunt to Madhuri. The film was equally successful, but the parental level characters (Farida Jalal, Anupam Kher, Aruna Irani) were not fleshed out, and therefore did not contribute to character arc of the lead actors, and were merely there for comic sequences or superficial advices.

My first Farida Jalal film was Aradhana, where she was cast opposite Rajesh Khanna (in the son's role). And she was just so cute. I have loved her ever since then, and any time she's on screen, a smile lights up my face. It's a shame she's always cast in mother's roles, but even so, she does such a lovely job of it - makes you want to go hug her tightly.
