  • I've always wanted to try using Electrolysis to clean the rusty things I find Metal Detecting. I've been afraid to try it, and electrocute myself, lol. Follow along, and see how it turned out for me, and how easy it ended up being.

Great video Aaron. I never thought of coating the treated pieces in wax. Awesome idea. 👍
I like to go over the objects with a wire brush to knock some of the crud off of them before electrolysis and each time before it goes back into the electrolysis.
That wax reminded me of a story when we were kids. We wanted to make candles, so we put our Crayola crayons into a Campbell soup can and heated it up on the stove. It got so hot it blew the crayon wax all over the ceiling, wall, and floor. Needless to say, Mom was not happy. 😆
Looking forward to the next video. 👍

😂😂 That’s hilarious! Yeah, I just went out to my shop and scrubbed the pieces that are currently in the electrolysis bath 👍

      Thanks!
      …and I didn’t electrocute myself 😂

hello , nice video you probably already know that "super washing soda" works better but is more expensive
I used a 5 gallon bucket with 6 pieces of rebar as sacrificial anodes, the more the better as its more in direct line of sight for the charge
be careful and have a good airflow as every bubble is explosive,...think the hindenburg
    good luck
    Mike

Thanks Mike, I couldn’t find the super washing soda, but I’m gonna look at other stores. You’re right about the metal. When I added more, it worked much better 👍

    Electroocuted? It’s low amp DC.
I just use old AC-DC wall transformer instead of a charger. Depending on how big the iron is, dictates the Amps out I use. 0.5 to 0.75 Amps for small objects.
1.0 to 2.0 Amps for larger items.
Your set up works fine. I just use stuff I have laying around. Since I worked with electronics half my life, I have extra stuff.

Yeah, I’ve never messed with electrical much. I can build about anything, but wouldn’t wire it myself 😂. I’m having fun cleaning up iron relics that have been piling up. Wish I started sooner. Thanks for watching! 👍
