Thank you so much for this awesome video! I just finished installing floors in my basement that were second hand floors from someone else and I have a few issues that can't be fixed with simply replacing a board unfortunately there are no more boards left. However the glue the suction cup and the weights I think are going to be the key that I needed!!!❤
40 year flooring Contractor here. For those attempting to do this type repair. Don't use a straight blade on your reciprocal tool. Use a radiused blade. In other words a semi circle. It won't jump and chatter. It will follow the line effortlessly. Suction clamps aren't necessary. Also as others have said DON'T cut cross handed like this. And by NO means put a nail through the floor. 🤦♂️ Otherwise pretty good video. I'm sure it's helped lots of people.
So why didn’t you share your 40 years of knowledge by showing us the correct way with your own video? Always some know it all with “don’t do this, don’t do that” crap. I personally found the suction puller worked like a charm far more than not having it. It’s by far the best way to control the new flooring if you’re a novice. Also the straight blade worked just fine without issues since it was all I had. Other than the agreement with the knife safety advice the guys video is on point.

Hands down best video tutorial on UA-cam pertaining to this fix. I’ve done this several times with different floor installation types and as far as this goes, it’s the best! 👍🏻👌🏼
Great tutorial...The thing I'm up against is a little different though...and I'm hoping you, can offer me a few suggestions. The person that did the installation for me 2 yrs ago apparently either placed a few of the planks too tight, and they began to buckle a bit, or he didn't tap down the edges with a rubber mallet well enough everywhere because in 4-6 places, (a couple at the short end, and a couple along the long length), the planks weren't completely flush, and a few of the edges seared off when I slid a wooden stool across the floor. I kept the slivers thinking I may need them to repair the floor, but when I tried to insert the slivers that broke off, it didn't help keep the larger planks that are on the floor stay down, because there were a few smaller pieces missing. After I saw your tutorial, I thought I might try what you showed on the video, but I couldn't locate any extra planks anywhere, and when I called PROSOURCE OF TAMPA, the place where I purchased them, I was told that they were discontinued. So, now what can I do? Should I glue the slivers I have down with that 2P-10 thick version where they're missing, and a little on the edges of the planks so they'll lay down flat? Then what can I do to the few areas that are missing small sliver pieces? Use a colored caulk that matches well with the floor? Not sure what to do! I can't afford to replace the entire floor, and I don't want it to get worse. The floor underneath is 8' ceramic tile. Your recommendations would really be appreciated.
Just what I was after. Thank you. Was thinking I’d have to rip out all the skirting boards to just to get all the flooring up to get to the damaged one lol. Thank you
we are just getting ready to sell our house and there were a couple planks that were damaged so this was a great way to get that floor back to looking great. thanks for the video
NIce video i mostly wanted to see what glue to use the Vinyl plank. Something you might consider , when i cut out the planking I just rip with circular saw about and inch from seams making a square, then , and you might have to use the dremel to complete the corners the center pops out , then take a drill with small bit and drill holes at a 45 degree to the corner on all four , it will just snap out. no need to watch a dancing dremel damage existing piece
You need to find another suction cup to recommend because the one you use on your video's is out of stock everywhere and says "don't know if or when it will be available again".
Good job on the flooring. Those 2 tack nails at the left end of the boards @11:21. They'll push themselves out over time for someone to step on barefoot. I've seen it a hundred times. If you get the chance try using tight bond III on your next floor repair.
Why did he do that. That terrible. What he could have done is slide and glue a 1mm material under existing board and let it stick out for the new board. No way would I drive a nail through it. Ouch.
Great videos keep them coming. So, when you glued the joint with the 2P-10 Thick Adhesive did you use the activator with it? or is it not necessary for that application? not sure if I missed it. Thank's.
Thank you! I personally would not use the activator on this situation unless you can it position it perfectly on the first try because the activator adhesion is instant. Just using the glue would give you some buffer time to position and tap the plank in place 👍🏽😊
Great Video 👍 - When you added the glue I did not see you use an activator yet when I follow the link to amazon to buy it it comes with an activator. Is the activator needed or does it dry without it?

I'm gonna try to repair it before ripping out. But we also have a few dips and clicks elsewhere that I just thought couldn't be fixed. You have just changed that! If you have laminate, not vinyl click...do you still use the top laminate coating melt and fill? I'm gonna guess that just also probably plastic, If not.. I'm wondering what else could be melted and squished into place? In the uk we have a few types of 'caulk' silicone bath seal is also call sealant caulk..but generally known as silicone sealant. Decorators caulk would be acrylic based paintable that shrinks and drys slightly flexible. Is that the type you recommend?

Wood glue sucks on laminate. I tried it with a piece that kept popping loose. Superglue all the way. I used Loctite on the lip between the boards, worked like a charm.
A floor that needs repairing is mostly likely an older floor that has seen quite a bit of use. Good luck going to your local supply house and finding an exact match, likely as not they've discontinued that pattern. I always advise clients too get a bit extra for future repairs. Even then after prolonged exposure to sunlight and wear the rest of the floor may have faded and the new piece will be somewhat noticeable by contrast but hopefully something they can live with
We have 1 complete box and a partial that was suppose to eventually do a closet floor in the master bedroom and never was finished due to a graduation taking place before we had time. We never did get it done. Then, we had water come in the back of our French doors which somehow splashed in under the sill while we were out of town. We came back to a sponge floor in front of the back door. Husband cut it out. Let it dry out. I sealed it well inside and out carefully with caulking. We thought we would make a tile landing to cover the damaged area, but now we will attempt to replace it with our extra boards we had intended for the closet and hadn’t used. Excited!

For the weight on the repaired floor you better can take the old pieces of the floor. lay them over the long 40% over the old floor and 60% on the new tile. Put some extra tape with 15 mm. space on the new tile. Than you can put some buckets with water for extra load leave the tape in between in case the some glue comes to the surface or place some new tape with 1 cm. in between.

Great video. I had vinyl plank flooring installed 3 years ago. There's a 50yr residential warranty. Some planks split at the seem. I called the business that installed the floors and for two years had tried to get them out here. The owner of the business got sick. This delayed my claim. Now the manufacturer of the flooring will not honor the warranty. They want me to pay $500 to send their inspector out to see if I was negligent on the floor splitting. If they deem that I was negligent then I suck up the cost. If it was the installers fault then they pay. This all sounds like a con game to me. I will not use this flooring business again. It's so sad that it's a family run Business. They did not disclose the warranty to me when I purchased this flooring. I was more concerned with the 50-year residential warranty as being great and there was also a 10-year commercial warranty. Be sure you check out the mfg warranty and their rules before you buy.
