Simple Minds have been musical pioneers for 40 glittering years. Catching the mood of the post-punk era, when the angry sounds of 1977 were splintering into a thousand different shapes, they emerged with a style rooted in the art-rock of David Bowie and the electronic dance of Donna Summer. They went on to become one of the great bands of their generation, deploying rousing choruses and booming atmospherics to provide a soundtrack that has endured. They topped the American chart with Don't You (Forget About Me) and followed suit in the UK with the Ballad Of The Streets EP (featuring Belfast Child). In selling over 60 million records, they have seen three of their 20 studio albums reach number one in the UK - Sparkle In The Rain, Once Upon A Time and Street Fighting Years - a chart-topping feat equalled by their live album Live In The City Of Light and the compilation Glittering Prize. A spellbinding touring band, they have graced the world's biggest stadiums. They starred at Live Aid and played three momentous London shows in honour of Nelson Mandela. The past decade has also seen a remarkable resurgence, their world-class credentials acknowledged by a Q magazine Inspiration award in 2014 and an Ivor Novello in 2016. They are now marking their 40th anniversary with a world tour, live album and career-spanning compilation.

Every time a Scotsman hears this tune they let out a huge roar inside and we feel invincible
I was 13 years old, living in downtown Toronto, Canada when my brother took me to my first Simple Minds concert at Massey Hall. It was at a time when I used to hang out in my brother room listening to the Simple Minds, amongst other greats for the time, and I fell in love with the band. So when I saw them play live, I fell deeply in love with the power of this band. And I met the band after the show b/c my brothers best friend finagled our way to the door of their tour bus. I was star struck. I have seen them 11 other times since then. Waterfront (as well as New Gold Dream) is the most incredible... and I mean 'holy fuck, I'm going to faint" kind of incredible... to see played live. Such a beautiful, and dangerously powerful song. Everyone is at their best rocking this one out. A true cacophony of sounds, awesome rifs, deadly bass, and powerful drums. You guys will be loved until the end of time. And I've got all the vinyl to prove it.
I could watch Mel play drums all day long. Just awesome.
Truly thee best band. 1982, 22, just past my driving test, cassette player playing New Gold Dream album..I had my freedom, fab friends, life was good....x
This is their most intense and passionate song and it's always a pleasure to hear it live.
I can not get tired of it, never...
Book of Brilliant things how that song has evolved check the version at this live gig unreal

Thank youz all, Simple Minds. thank UA-cam too ! I had to dial m'sel back 40 years tonight 'cause I needed it.
Charlie Burchill playing guitar like a keyboard! just amazing
Quite possibly the best intro to a song ever, amazing sound live too, even better than way back in the day, awesome just awesome.
The best band in the world...!!!
not
It really is the ultimate live song. Along with "New Gold Dream", "Hunter and the Hunted", This Fear of Gods" and the "Live in the City of Light" version of "Book of Brilliant Things". For me they can't be beaten.

Big sleep
Mel G. is the most powerful drummer ever. I saw Simple Minds live in East Berlin in 1988. The Set began with "Waterfront" and as the drums were setting in, I saw the entire drumset wiggle and sway with every hit... My girlfriend said: "This drummer plays like a wood chopper!" "Yes," I said, "but he chops clean like a metronome ..."
As energetic and powerful as the first time I played that white vinyl version of "Sparkle in the Rain"!
Hujaaah!!!! Everything as powerful as back in the eightees. Love it to bits.
Just a stunning performance !
Hope that you and the band would return to America so that I can see you live and all the best Jim, Charlie, Mel and all the rest. Don't ever stop!
oh jesus! mamma mia!! what a masterpiece! incredible!! 40 years and still better! now any other song of any other band is relaxing compared to this! waterfront and love song loop!
Lord! This look like it was an amazing concert! I wish I had been there.
Looking forward to seeing them in Qatar this January.
God, I love this band and it pleases me so much to post this... CONGRATULATIONS Simple Minds Official on your decision to hire whoever you got to shoot this series of videos... finally you've collectively captured 'that certain Minds magic' we all feel when we attend one of your gigs. They have succeeded where many others have failed.... They're truly a set of personal, fly-on-the-wall visual documents that capture all the brilliant little nuances of your live performance... a performance that all your devoted enthusiastic fans recognise - fans who live for the day to see you live whenever you next visit town, fans who make it their number one priority to ensure they get their tickets early - to be right up the front... Brilliant... White Hot Days. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You.
Pure art, pure music, not actual stupidities... LOVE SM!
This song should be been no. 1 back then..... Brilliant track... Timeless

one of the most uplifting experiences of ,my life. thanks Jim , Charlie, and the boys
Wow ! What a performance !!!! Love it so !!!! I'm looking forward to the next live 😍😍😍
NYC Beacon theatre around 1984?. They opened with this. Best opening of any rock band I've seen to this day. Electrifying energy from the start.
To simple minds that was great and Jim you always look great love you
Simple Minds, music with impact!!
*INCREDIBLE*
WONDERFUL song . You don't need to close your eyes , you have that ramble and all of a sudden you see the waterfront . It's both soothing and dynamic ... It's all about visualization , it's beautiful . Each song could be painted Jim .
Simply amazing
Remember this at Ahoy in '85... life-changing.
Along with "Book of brilliant things" still my favourite song 👍
It's just such a belter of a track. Was a fantastic gig to attend. I was up front and center, 3rd row and I was totally like Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road when Jim pointed at me during Honest Town. "He looked at me...." :D
Yeah, I know but this band got me through my formative years and they still put on as good a live show as anyone.
I got to see these guys before I die!
Touring now
What a live sound, amazing,
their best song - what a band - Jim Kerr, what a legend - they don't make music like this no more - music lover : Philippines *

Charlie Burchill's screaming lead guitar is just what's needed.....even better than their earlier incarnations..... huge!!!!

Who was their FOH engineer? absolutely fantastic mix
P. Dumoustier. A Belgian top audio professional !
As they used to say on Sesame Street, this song was brought to you by the numbers 1,2,1,2,3,4.
No idea what the bassist is playing but he ain't playing the actual bass riff that makes this song so iconic.
You having a laugh?
The guitarist deserves a focus at the beginning of the song.
10. Dum-ti-dum-ti-dum-ti-dum
20. Goto 10
I'm sitting on top floor.

Big call but ... best live song ever?
Not far off !!
;-)
jim has started dressing like rod Stewart and it seems to be attracting rods geriatrics fans to lol
lost his voice now?
Simple Minds have gone down in my opinion. Why do they no longer play the opening bass line to this song anymore. Why use a tape to play it when there is a bassist in the band?
+Fendersunburst Possibly because the bass player cant play it or either only the legend Mr Derek Forbes is the only man for the job?
+DAVID MCATEER Sad but true, can't believe they sequenced Derek's amazingly simple yet incredibly hard to play well bass line. Even Derek had a hard time getting it to sound right live but at least he played it.
It was always a sequenced bass
