I am trying to follow the Dominican Rite Mass in England (I am new to it), but cant seem to find an order of Mass booklet or missal for this? Have you any suggestions where I can purchase such materials in the UK?
I am sorry to hear that! If you check the NLM Website (www.newliturgicalmovement.org/2021/07/dominican-rite-mass-videos-online.html) you’ll find a list of all the livestreams etc. for the Dominican Rite around the world.
My 4th great grandfather was the last Dominican missionary in Baja California. He later led the resistance against the American military occupation of Mexico in 1848. To circumvent the secularization of Todos Santos Mission, he deeded the lands to his 11 children.
@@marcokite Have you never heard of the Novus Ordo? Its a new version of the Anglican Mass . It is not Christs He never came back. The Dominican rite pre dates the 20th century and comes from the 1200s. I can remember chatting with the a Dominican priest who had been trained with the old Dominican rite but had been asked by his Bishop to say the Tridentine mass. He said the servers would complain in a nice way he was not saying it properly. This was because there were different rubrics in each rite. The Tridentine rite comes from the 500s AD but was codified by Pope Saint Pius V in the 1500s. The Sarum rite comes from the 1200s but was changed not by faithful Catholics but by Anglicans in the 1500s. I hope this helps. Don't forget there are other Latin rites eg the Ambrosian rites from Milan.
Am I right in saying that the recent restrictions by Pope Francis on the Traditional Latin Mass (according to the missal of 1962) does not affect the Dominican Rite?
@@DowryOfMary Isn't it too early to say for sure? The Dominican friars I know who already celebrate it have zero inclination in going out of their way to conform to the "spirit" of Traditiones custodes; moreover, in many places where the Dominican Rite flourishes it is in dioceses with bishops who are more pastoral and more enlightened than Pope Francis.
It is Unfortunate that the Liturgical reforms if the second Vatican council have almost caused Old rites like this to go extinct and what is also unfortunate is how the Old rite of the mass has been so politicized in the church . I love and Much prefer the Old form of the mass but I am not a fan of the Cult Like Catholic Fundamentalism and crowds you see attending such parishes ither. I pray daily that the Old Rite of the mass will be restored as the only form or at least become more common place in hundreds of catholic parishes around the world and not be used b the devil as a wedge to cause Division.
The abundance of Western rites were either wiped out by Tridentine and Novus Ordo. The following are a list of Latin Usages or less inaccurately known as Latin Rites which were at least 200 years old in 1570: Gallican Rite ( Defunct) Sarum Rite Use of Hereford Use of York Bangor Lincoln Westminster Abbey Durham Rite Dom Gueranger mentions that the Bishop of Durham had the privilege of mitigating the order of execution, even if condemned by the King within his diocese. Ambrosian Rite Mozarabic Rite Lyonese Rite Cologne Usage took the the option of taking the Roman Rite of Pius V probably as a counter measure against Protestant influences. Carthusian Rite Benedictine Rite Esztergom Use Defunct in the 17th century. Benevento Rite Slavonic Rite Rite of Braga Still in use occasionally. Nidaros rite in Norway Uppsala Use: One of local rites that remained legitimate even after this decree were abandoned voluntarily, especially in the 19th century. Rite of Paris: Defunct, although over 200 years old in 1570, lost its privileges due to altering the Rite without the approval of Rome and ordered to take the Roman Rite.
Does anyone know why exactly the rite was phased out? I know VII was cited by the order, but I haven't seen anything in Sacrosanctum Concilium to justify the extreme Romanization
Rome pressured all religious orders at the time to embrace the Novus Ordo. The Dominicans submitted but reserved the right to continue to celebrate the Dominican Rite Mass so, unlike for most other religious orders, their Latin Mass never completely disappeared. In fact, as the video notes, it is experiencing a revival in Dominican circles (small but growing).
@@Kirin2022 I've heard that it was the other way around. Rome was the one that pushed for them to keep/reform their rites, even telling the Dominicans that the Master must grant faculties for their old rite
Used to have the privilege of attending a Dominican rite mass with Dominican chant. It was heavenly!
I go to a Dominican mass, I love it.
It is a truly incredible liturgy!

Pray an act of perfect contrition everyday
I'd like so much to learn to celebrate it!
Would love to see more videos on the Dominican Rite
brother please upload more of it, try to make other rites like ancient lyonese, ambrosian, gallician and ambrosian rite...

Thank you for this! This has made my day!
The Dominican Priory in Leicester, UK have a Dominican Low Mass every Sunday.
Aye! There is also one every Sunday in London!
Not anymore unfortunately - I used to serve the Dominican weekday mass in Leicester!
Holy Rosary Parish in Portland OR prays the Dominican Rite, as does Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorage.
Wonderful!

Dominican Rite is offered in Anchorage, Alaska.
That's my church and parish priests at 1:50!
The SSPX has a Dominican group under Fr. Albert. And the SSPX Resistance has a house in Arville France. Both exclusively keep the Dominican Rite.
I don’t think the SSPX has any other Dominicans besides Fr Albert do they?
Read my comment above They all Apostasised in 1960's only fools would support them .

Technically speaking, it isn’t affected; practically speaking, it is.
If the bishop believes in hell, they do not restrict Latin mass. The wheat is being separated from the chaff.
