Very well done. A great start to the season. I swear she was a shaggy, slightly unbalanced horse a few months ago! She looks so well and her coloring is really unique. So much scope in the jumping. She cleared them all by miles.
Meg! I found some very interesting horses in Winnie/Jam's family tree! 😁 I have a whole doc I can send you if you'd like, but the TL;DR is there seems something was up with a stallion called Gil (born 1939) and his relatives. Frustratingly, his colour is dubiously described as "dun" by the Connemara Pony Breeders Society and Irish Draught Online Studbook (they most likely meant buckskin, same thing to people then) but allbreedspedigree says he was genetically palomino. They don't give the source for that info and genetic testing wasn't available until the 90s, but admittedly his picture doesn't look buckskin. (Granted it's a picture from the 40s so it's not hugely helpful lol). So that's annoying. BUT he and his sire Innishgoill Laddie (who was "light grey") both have offspring out of solid coloured mares that were recorded as "roan" or "grey/roan", and Gil even had a few listed as "grey" even though the dam wasn't grey. Line breeding was standard practice and occasionally straight up inbreeding back then, and a lot of those mares were related to Innishgoill Laddie as well. So I'm thinking that there might be some recessive allelles (genes, can also think of them as mutations) or just a ton of them involved, that came together in the right way to produce these slow greying/roany greys. It does skip generations but it's definitely something genetic that appears several times in the family! Descended from them is Queen of Diamonds (1957) and her son Abbeyleix Owen (1971), both very influential in the Connie breed. Owen (definitely grey) has 413 recorded offspring, and a small minority of them (like, 2%) were also apparently "roan" or "grey roan", out of non-roan mares (grey and not-grey!). In her direct line of decent from Owen though, Winnie seems to be the first "roan" grey to have popped up. So Winnie-woo is just confirmed to be one in a million (well, one in hundreds) in every way! 🥰
WAHEY to add to my findings, turns out Abbeyleix Owen was grandfather to *Canal Laurinston (the stallion I previously asked you if Winnie was related to). LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WE HAVE A MATCH

Winnie is looking super! You have done such a great job with her. Her paces in the dressage looked lovely and her scope in the jumping was awesome. What a cracking eventing pony she will turn into. x
She is so sweet. She looked lovely in the dressage. Such a pretty baby. I loved watching her jump, too. She's so cute about tucking her feet. I was giggling watching her, but just because she looked absolutely darling in the show jumping, She did so well. I think she's going to be super as she matures. Good job with her Meg and Hobbit and Granite Lens Media.
Fantastic result - well done Winnie & Meg🎉👏👏 Not bad for a first time out🤗 Winnie has fantastic potential. She has the beginnings of such fluid movements & great transitions & an awesome jump. Congratulations Meg - on the result & for a brilliant home-bred future eventer. Go Team Elphick ❤
