Who would of thought that the company called Black Magic would make consistent developments in software that are almost magical.
Haha, yeah! It’s very exciting!
finally software worth buying.
Totally Agreed 👍
Very surprised.
And its all by "Design"
Just to say having discovered you recently, I find your Videos very clear and concise and extremely easy to follow, so thanks and keep up the great work! Your Videos have really helped me with coming up to speed on Resolve.
Welcome aboard!
This method 1:00 - 1:30 would also be quite useful to create a video normal map for use in 3D software like Blender. I'm using this on greenscreen footage that I've exported as alpha and it creates depth on things that would otherwise appear 2D. Just thought I'd share for anyone hoping to do the same.
fascinating idea!
can you perhaps link me to any normal map + blender + greenscreen videos you found helpful? I'm curious if this could be used in virtual production, this is so exciting!
Resolve does also have the ability to export a depth map using AI, so you could compare results with using the depth or normal map
Thats the 1st thing I thought of when I saw it too!
Best video I've come across so far on explaining how to use the relight tool. Excellent job. You made my day!!
Wow, thanks!
Finally someone actually showed what the effect looks like instead of just the surface map
Thanks! Just a thought: In the first example I imagine it would be better if you applied the lighting FX BEFORE bringing the exposure down, because if I’m not mistaken, in the way you worked, you compressed the information the surface map has to work with and then with the artificial light source you brought brightness back from the basis of a compressed image that was there to begin with.
To break it down more: I think you brought the exposure down, lost information and then brought the exposure back up
Awesome new addition - Thanks for informing about it.
Create a tutorial for how each tool in Fusion works and how to use it (with the inspector) so we can better understand the Fusion page. Otherwise, the fusion will get confused
Will do!
For some reason I am able to follow you better than others. You really helped with me mastering the masking feature. Now I need relight and a google search and here you are again. I should have subscribed the first time. Thanks for your help! AZ USA
So nice to hear it!😊 please check out my brand new color grading course and if you can, share it: colorgradinginsights.thinkific.com/courses/masteringcolorgrading
This new feature changes the entire game! Great tut. You got a new subscriber :)
Thanks so much for the visit!
Without you I wouldn’t be able to take advantage of these tools with full knowledge, thank you for being an incredible teacher!
You're very welcome!
Ya, you could spend a few hours experimenting with it to figure out how it works, or six minutes watching this video. :)
This is nuts! What a game changer!! This blew my mind as much as the ARRI 35 did
Nice tutorial! Subbed. Now, here's a a tip to take it to the next level:
Add a separate Depth Map Node, feed it with the original Primary Grade Node, and take the Alpha output of Depth Map into the final Relight FX Node, now you can light your scene based on depth, that way the virtual light only affects the background or foreground and not on both!
Thank you so much for this! Will definitely play around with it.
This one blew up! You deserve it.
Really cool, thanks for going over this! Was super curious about seeing that effect in action.
Could potentially be a powerful option for matching green screen clips.
Possibly!
Thank you so much...been struggling with it the past hour(:
You're welcome!
Wow, this is what I have been waiting for a long time
Thank you for the clear and concise overview of how the relight tool works!
Yay! Thank you!
A great tool Also, a very interesting update in the overlay mode, simplifies the grading scheme without layer mixers
Glad you like it!
Thanks for this very interesting tutorial ! It would be great to see how much we can push this relight tool to do a complete virtual lighting. I'm wondering how much the tool can replace full lighting. How far are we from this ? Since you are a real pro at colouring, I would like to challenge you to take a scene that's badly lit, and use DVC tools to replace lighting. I think it would be a great video. We're entering the world of virtual production now and virtual lights could be a real thing if it would give us the possibility to replace lighting.
This is like taking apple's portrait mode for phones and giving minuet control to creators - I cannot wait to see the cool things people create, the future is bright!
Yes! Thanks for watching my video!
You win first place in « davinci resolve relight » search 😂
10/10 will watch again, subscribed !
I know!!! Hahaha, I actually was first ☺️Thanks so much for the visit
Best tutorial for this new feature. omg.
i was half way to understanding how it worked :D
Thank you so much
You're welcome!
This is really an amazing tool! I can't wait to work on a project good enough to test it
Thanks so much!
WHAT A BRILLIANT VIDEO.... clear concise easy to follow
Glad it was helpful!
Nice quick demo of this awesome new feature Thanks! Resolve is magic..
Glad you like it!
@@colorgradinginsights did you attend NAB?
Thank you for a tutorial on this subject using the latest version.
Thanks for the explanation. Very clear and easy to understand (although I am not sure when I would use that effect).
Glad it was helpful!
Just dipped my toes into Davinci, or should I say video editing in general, so this is way above my pay grade right now. But, regardless the capabilities of this software are truly amazing. Even more so considering it's free! Black Magic is truly a blessing.
Thanks so much for watching my videos!
Thanks a lot, up till now the absolut best info about relighting
Thanks so much!
You have shared amazingly great tips on the relight FX, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm learning for sure. I'm a newbie to DaVinci Resolve though I have been using Blackmagic Cameras for sometime. I hav also subbed to your channel.
Thanks so so much! Glad to be helpful!
Nice tutorial and more intuitive than others.

This is incredible update - thanks for sharing. :)
That looks pretty powerful. I'm really excited to try it on my own!
Thanks for the visit!
Unreal! Suuuuuper game changer!
Thank you!
I agree! Glad you liked it!
Thanks so much! Now the plugin makes sense. 🏆
Thanks so much for watching!

What the heck, that's absolutely nuts!
Yeah, Blackmagic is smashing it! Thanks for watching my videos!
@@colorgradinginsights Of course! No problem at all :)
Great tutorial, to the point and clear. Thank you!
Thanks so much for visiting my channel!
Wonderful explanation 🙂 helps a lot, Thank you Kaisa🙂
You're welcome 😊
DaVinci cleaning up in this industry, this is awesome
Yes! It’s very exciting!
I can't colorgrade but I love your ASMR🥰
I hope you’ll learn something haha
That was a great tutorial, and always to the point.Keep it up.
Thank you! 🙏
Thank you for the information 🔥🔥.
Any time!
Awesome new addition and awesome video! Is there a way to use a tracker with the spotlight feature to keep it fixed on the same spot as the camera moves around?
I wonder this as well! The examples were almost static shots, how will it look with the subject moving?
I haven't tried this yet, but if you look at 3:09 you'll see the light direction values can be keyframed, so I guess so. Of course the question is how convincing will this be?
Whoops, stupid me forgot about the tracker on the Color page. Now you've got me curious as well: can you track the relight tool?
Dzięki Kasia, bardzo ciekawe. Obecnie pracuję na wersji 17, ale myślę, że to dobry czas na przesiadkę na tą najnowszą. Pozdrawiam ;)
Również Pozdrawiam! 😃
You're the first tutorial on this tool. Thank you! May I ask what graphics card you were using? My 1070 ti couldn't handle it.
Nice ! thanks you ! I have a question, why do you use a dual relight node structure versus simply put the relight effect on a single node ? Isn't supposed to do the same effect ? Thanks.
It’s better to split the lighting and the map for better performance and also you can add multiple lights like this. Well spotted - I should have explained it in the video!
Thank you for the demonstration😁
My pleasure 😊
Very well narrated thank you
Thanks so much!
TRUELY BLACK MAGIC🕺🏾✨🔥
Yeah!
Terrific tutorial and wow, what a tool!
Thanks for the visit!
Why are we creating the map in the node before it? It should work by itself with internal surface map right?
That is insane!!!
Super good Tutorial video. Thanks babe
Thanks for warching!
In theory it seems great but results do not seem convincing enough.
I’d like to see in a neutral soft lit face a result like moving light from left to right etc, applying shadows that follow features, bone structure.
The examples seem not very different from what can be achieved with gradient light through power windows and keying.
That's amazing, thank you.
Uhh yeah, love the relight effect 😊
Yay, thank you!
Very interesting Kasia, thanks !🥰😘
You’re welcome 😊
That was GREAT.... Really enjoyed this video... 😊❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the tutorial. I don’t see any effect happening when I do this. There’s no manipulation of shadow and light. Stays exactly the same.
Mam! You looks absolutely Beautiful 😍 Listening to your Voice makes Butterflies🦋 in my stomach 😳
Thanks a lot 😊
I have my nodes set up the exact same way and the 3rd node relight dropdown does not work
Liked, subbed, saved to my DR playlist 😅. Thank you 😊
Welcome aboard!
Thanks because I couldn't figure out how to light the scene after generating the map.
Thanks for watching!
what if i had a bunch more nodes (secondary color, vignette, glow, etc) do i add this node at teh very beginning or at the very end?
That was very informative, thanks!
This is actually insane
Yes! It’s a quite heavy effect on the system as well unfortunately
This is insane. great tutorial
Thanks for the visit!
Thank you!!!
What's the point? The light fell from the left, and after FX, it also falls from there? The original picture has not changed in any way.
What kind of machine hardware u are using i see that It works without any slowdowns
Thanks for the video. I see Davinci also added face filter like we have on smartphones. What filter you used for your face and when can we find the face filter window?
I setup everything exactly like this and when I uncheck Relight Map Preview the effect doesn't show on the clip at all.
Why does every single one of these with this new feature does not show it working in a clip, just a still frame. Can we please get a preview of what it looks like after in a running clip?
Good content, didn’t know of this feature yet. One thing tho, you applied the effects on still images. Must be a lot of work(heavy on pc) to track it all?
Hola.
Bonito efecto. Usted no lo necesita.
Saludos.
This is really cool!
Have you seen a difference between using the relighting tool versus power windows? Thanks!
Yes! Relight FX simulates not only lighting but also shadows!
@@colorgradinginsights what situations have you seen this look the best?
Woow just magic congratutlations ;)
Thank you Nico🖤
Thank you for the tutorial. And if after every step is done the effect still doesn't work in final image? It works when used in preview mode but when I turn it off then I see no result. Could it be because of I have Resolve Version and watermark shows on the talent after applying this effect?
Yeah it’s because you have the free version of the software!
@@colorgradinginsights I have uprageded and still effect is not visible. I needed to edit the wheels to see some slightly visible effect. Not something I was expected for but yeah, it seems to work in some way. Maybe on different video it will be visible in more vivd way.
Nice and easy! Thanks alot. Great feature :)
Glad you like it!
It dint work in vertical videos?
Very helpful. Thank you 😊 🙌🏿
Thanks so much for watching!
Is it possible to turn everything dark and relight just the face, like a thunder hitting the room?
Very helpful. Thank you!
So glad!
Great tut, thank you very much :)
And thank you for the visit!
I’m excited for my old Mac mini to fall flat on its face while editing with this. Looks like I need an upgrade…again.
I just subscribed. Thanks for the education
Thank you so much!
It's all fun and games with a paused clip. Moving image is what we need to see.
Thank you!
You’re very welcome!
Would this idea be able to put a subject into a silhouette? Ie, can you put a light source behind a part of the image?
This I really amazing wow
Bravo pour le tutos.
You madame just won à New sub with the Bell !!!
Yay! Thank you!
Hello! Is it possible to track a face while "relighting" it in footage where the faces are way too dark? Thanks!
Thank You so much :)
You're welcome!
amazing, thanks a lot!
Mine seems to go super laggy and extremely slow, unusable. Can you recommend anything? I'm using a Apple M1 Pro 16gb Ram...
Amazing video
The only issue I have is that when I try to render it, it creates a white circle on the person's face 😢
It’s a bug I think, it’s still Beta, let’s not forget!
Great job. Thanks
