Awesome battle as always. Overall I just enjoyed listening to JSU 1000 times more than Southern - it was good music, power, balance, and all rest. Just fun to listen to
The BOOM sounds AMAZING!!!!!! Everything SU plays sounds SAME! At a certain point, you just fast-forward through whatever Southern is playing to get back to the Boom . . . it all sounds the same. The Boom took this one by a mile! 💙💙

It’s been JSU all season…SU musicality has been missing that fight for about 3 or 4 years, Dolls included even though they had individual Dolls who knew how to give emotions through movement. They need to go back to the drawing board with the band leadership and find directors who can teach and write Jukebox music.
Dr. Taylor is great, but the others aren’t writing on the level of Mr. Haymer and I agree that they sound like a big All Star band instead of SU with all of the rap tunes.
W -> JSU Bones made a huge difference here. SU bones seem to struggle at times to support the upper brass and Jackson’s bones need to be tested for PEDs lol. All in all, JSU is firing on all cylinders. Arrangements, execution, balance, and power are on 10…Also SU got all them damn tubas but don’t sound like all them tubas when they play in the staff👀.
I can tell JSU really hurt SU with this one when I look at their body language when JSU was leaving. That mellophone player all the way on the right lost all sense of discipline, walked into the other section of the stands and wasnt even watching the director or playing with band at the end. A shameful display from SU, who I am a fan of and expect much more. The arrangements aren't hitting like they used to when Haymer and Simmons were there and the students aren't moving with that SU style they used to have. I could type forever about my viewpoints on this, cause it was jammed packed with correct tuning, great pitch and control of breathing, while sounding balanced and powerful. The notes were full from both bands and I could interpret them flawlessly. Man I can’t choose a winner it’s hard that tuba section at SU though on the second arrangement I believe is all smoke. Sheesh they was digging deep, and for jsu always the pen. It will and until further notice always be TRAVIS he’s him he’s that guy I’m telling y’all.
The truth is, when Haymer screwed up he messed the program up for years to come. When he was there, they had the dream team. Two excellent arrangers whose styles complimented each other and pushed the envelope. The set up they have now doesnt work. But it was never supposed to. Had Haymer not screwed up, we would not be looking at these clearly inferior SU bands. The band should have continued rising from the 2017 year. But it is what it is at this point.
I’m an SU fan, but what we are witnessing is truly the culmination of years of JSU being the underdogs musically. However, now they are truly matching SU with solid musical composition. Let us not forget the old adage “the acquisition of a thing is easy, but it is the maintenance that kills people”.

When I marched for SU the motto was “We don’t compete with other bands, we compete with older versions of ourselves” but who in their right mind can say that these SU arrangements can legitimately compete with any of those SU bands from the 80’s, 90’s, or 2000’s? 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ Doctor Taylor this ain’t cutting it. Come on Juke I know you can do better than this. I’m in my 30’s and couldn’t tell you the names of 80% of the songs that were played. Which is why many people are saying all of these songs are sounding the same. Hell, when I crabbed one of the section leaders told us we were going to play every song that came on the radio and we damn sure did. But these songs aren’t doing it. Where are the ballads? The songs that the audience can sing along to? The songs that will get house and separate us from Jstank?

The Boom is definitely on another level. The clarity and synchronization is just top tier.

I’m an SU fan, but what we are witnessing is truly the culmination of years of JSU being the underdogs musically. However, now they are truly matching SU with solid musical composition. I am a SU fan over JSU (NSU #1). Nonetheless, JSU got this…not by a lot but they executed so well. SU thought 💭 what they had ready was enough. 😂 #DontUnderEstimate - I will say one thing, or again, but SU’s super 1st 🎺🥇 GOOD JOB! O_o

I’ll be fair as a Su fan. Nobody was saying anything these past 2 years. We played a lot of rap tunes which is cool cause they still smacked but now since Su having a off season “ they missing Simmons and haymer”. That’s not fair cause nobody was saying that at all till now. Just call it for what it is that Su just not it this year far as sound and arrangements and Jsu has arrived and I saw it coming too.
Prime ex when Su played weak ts smack in 08 but this year band didn’t execute it. It just a off season.

When I marched for SU the motto was “We don’t compete with other bands, we compete with older versions of ourselves” but who in their right mind can say that these SU arrangements can legitimately compete with any of those SU bands from the 80’s, 90’s, or 2000’s? 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ Doctor Taylor this ain’t cutting it. Come on Juke I know you can do better than this. I’m in my 30’s and couldn’t tell you the names of 80% of the songs that were played. Which is why many people are saying all of these songs are sounding the same. Hell, when I crabbed one of the section leaders told us we were going to play every song that came on the radio and we damn sure did. But these songs aren’t doing it. Where are the ballads? The songs that the audience can sing along to? The songs that will get house and separate us from Jstank?
