A face down spell/trap is in fact a valid target for the wording “a card you control” so you weren’t wrong with dark zebra. Turns out master duel shows the pre errata card, while actually functioning like the post errata card that says “if this is the only MONSTER card you control”

You can then press CTR + SHIFT + C to choose an element on the screen you want to remove.
