Interesting concept that I hadn't thought about.....seasonal inks. I have a small ink collection and only 2 greens. My favorite green ink is Montblanc Irish Green.

Irish green looks very similar to this one. It's a nice shade of green.

Thanks Kathy. I was looking for a nice bright green but my notebooks of choice are Leuchtturm followed by Elia Note, Tomoe River paper. You just saved me the effort and expense. The search continues ....

Very thoughtful points. I suggest you try a medium nib with the green HERBIN ink and the different types of paper for different results.

I've started doing writing tests with all my inks using a wide range of nib sizes and recording the results for future reference. It's been very useful when I'm trying to choose an ink and pen. 😀

Many of the Herbin inks are drier and benefit from wetter nibs than fines tend to be, particularly Japanese fines, which tend to be more like European extra-fines. Another nice-looking green ink that performs well is Monteverde California Teal, which is not really teal, just has more of a blue undertone than the yellow of the Lierre Sauvage. I used it in a 1.0 mm stub for my Christmas cards, and it worked very well.

I've never tried a Monteverde ink, but their advertised ITF (ink treatment formula) recently caught my attention. I've had my eye on a few inks from the Sweet Life series, but I'm trying to limit non-essential purchases for now.

gadgetstop321 the ITF works very well, particularly in a drier nib and helps get rid of hard starts. I have several of their inks including two of the Sweet Life series: Iced Cookie and Blue Velvet Cake, which is a nice blue-black. I like them.

Thanks for the wonderful video; I was introduced to Herbin inks on the first visit my wife and I made to Paris, and found Violette Pensee at the Louvre gift shop, and later, Lierre Sauvage. Maybe I have to start using my Travelers Notebook again as it seems to be friendlier with Herbin inks, but I love the fold flat Hobonichi. Keep recording all those pen/ink/paper combinations; visually it really helps far better than a "stodgy" wordy ink review :)

You're welcome Steve! My daughter had the opportunity to study abroad in Paris a couple years ago and she visited the Louvre. She didn't bring me any ink, but she got me a notebook. Part of what I enjoy about this hobby are the memories and the history that's involved. Herbin inks may not be the best suited for every paper or pen, but I love that they have been making ink for so long. And I plan to continue chronicling my pen and ink and paper combinations.

I enjoyed your video. Have you tried Monteverde Yosemite Green? I love that ink. It writes wonderfully with great shading. I used it in my Twisbi transparent green Eco with a medium nib. Continue to be healthy and remain safe.

Thank you! Yosemite is a nice shade of green. I haven't tried any Monteverde inks but I've read that they use a special "Ink Treatment Formula" that improves ink flow. I'm interested in a few of the inks in the Sweet Life series so I may give them a try when things get back to normal. You stay safe also Marianne.

I've found that the J Herbin inks tend to write drier that a lot of other inks, especially the Diamine inks. I really like the "Lierre Sauvage" colour, along with the Diamine "Sherwood Green" is my favourite of the greens I've tried. The "Sherwood Green" has worked fine in most pens I've tried it in, the "Lierre Sauvage" has worked best for me in my Jinhaos (X450, 159 and 992) with medium nibs that tend to write wetter anyway. I suggest you try it in a broader nib and/or nibs that tend to write wetter.

I'm looking forward to trying Lierre Suavage with my new Pilot 78G+ with a medium nib that writes decently wet.

Try making up a small batch with your Vanness White Lightning to see if the feel improves.

I might try the White Lightning at some point, but it's performing great in my Travelers Notebook.

Have you tried this ink in a really wet pen? Like the E95s? I’m using the ink in my Prera with a M nib, and it’s just ok. I will try it in a nicely juicy pen next. However this ink is making me want to try Mont blanc Irish ☘️ Green

I haven't used Lierre Sausage since I tried it in the Prera, so I do need to give it another chance in a wetter pen. Spring is just around the corner and green sounds nice for letter writing. 😄

You don't have a "wet" nib/pen you might try with this ink?

    • @gadgetstop321

I do have some pens that this ink may perform better with on a wider range of papers, but I've been using this pen and ink combo with my travelers notebook and and it's performing great.
