Man! Good hunting! My son & a couple daughters are now hooked. They are gathering around my place at lunch to see if you see him &/or harvest. We are pulling for you. My 12 year old son said just take the compound in and get him. Lol! He doesn't grasp the accomplishment element just yet. He will. Thank you.
Man, he's a nice, big buck! I am really liking the great footage you're throwing at us. It's a lot of enjoyment watching those beautiful animals. You and your camera gear gets the job done with an A+. Today is our last day of modern gun... well, we have three more days for doe only with modern gun (private land only). I might just wait 'til it's over and fill my last tag (doe) by archery hunting. Thanks, Jared. Stay after him!
Jared I’ve watched you for a long time. I appreciate your serious approach to hunting as well as your respectful reaction when you are successful. Traditional equipment isn’t for everyone and requires a commitment that really isn’t understood until it’s been experienced. I’m confident that this wasn’t a spur of the moment decision for you and so my advice would be to stick to your commitment. I switched back and forth between compound and recurve for several years before just giving my compound away and 100% committing to traditional equipment. I’ve been fortunate enough to be successful a few times and I promise you the reward will be worth the wait. That being said good luck with whatever you decide and again I appreciate your videos. My 15 year old son is ate up with hunting and sadly there’s a lot of hunting content on UA-cam that I prefer he not watch. You’re not one of them and he never misses a video. I appreciate your example. Nate from Oklahoma
Hey Nathan, thanks for the kind words and the support. What you said about traditional equipment is spot on. I certainly see myself eventually going 100% traditional. There are a couple things that are holding me back right now, and that is 1) Just gaining some more experience overall with it and 2) Having more spots setup that are more accommodating to recurve hunting. That will probably be an offseason project. But after spending a lot of time with it this year in my hand, it's one of those things I wish more people could experience. It's not just a lesser weapon, it completely changes the way a guy hunts and thinks about everything. Thanks again to you and your son as well.
he's a handsome deer in my opinion. couldn't help but notice the smile on your face, that's how it was when you were a kid I'm guessing. well done nice camera work. thanks again.
Thanks for watching. This has definitely been an extremely fun chase, almost 100% due to the challenge of it. This is what keeps me going back for sure.
Great footage! Love how you are giving us such an up close look at this hunt. Good luck the rest of the season, will be pulling for you to get it done. Happy New Year!
That ole bruiser has seen better days. Did anyone notice at 6:15 how the buck wobbled in his back-end, and again at 10:15? I couldn’t quite tell if it was hips or left rear leg. Good luck Mr. Jared.
Jared I applaud you for hanging in there with the trad bow! Ive been bouncing back and forth with mine 😅 it gets frustrating sometimes being so close… yet so far away
Man I really thought you were gonna get your shot when that doe came in and he went to check her out. Hopefully his luck will run out. A true worthy old adversary to hunt.
Let me join the compound club - Trad equipment, on the ground, late season, with a next to ground green food source, self filming, Does everywhere. He will have to be outside 10 yards to be able to move off the camera to your weapon and outside 20 is to far........ add in late season alertness and the needed factors of stopped, relaxed and quartering away perfectly. Not many factors working in your direction. Adding the extra 20 yard wide window gives you a more realistic chance from that cedar tree anyway.
All really good points, and part of my thought process. The range would also allow me to potentially hang and hunt on the other side of him, giving me another wind option which would be big. But still a tough decision!
Doing entry and exit right with that many days in a row without spooking him or making others aware of you. Hunting from the ground is sweet when it works.
Yeah that spot has worked very well so far, especially from the ground. I definitely think it's tougher to get a way with everything night after night compared to being elevated.
Haha. I've been hearing that a bunch lately. I'm not sure if I'll switch or not, I'd love to finish the job the way I set out to do, as it's not just about the kill for me. But at the same time, taking him with a compound from the ground isn't an easy feat either. Plus I have a good amount of history with this deer, I think he's at least 9.5 years old. So, we'll see. Thanks for watching!
At some point I assume he will but he's too close to finishing him with the recurve to give up on it just yet, which is his main goal. It's not about killing him just to kill him. It's about the hunt.
@@jaredmillsheck man my buddies yell at me for passing up "nice" bucks every year...I do that because THAT'S WHAT I ENJOY. The hunts greater than the kill... unless you're turkey hunting lol
@@jaredmills on 2nd thought and after seeing the other replies i think you should stick it out. WOuld be amazing content to shoot with a recurve and to be within 30 yards of this deer 4 times and not be busted is insane. I look forward to your success on this old brute b/c I think he is definitely on his way out. Would rather see him tagged than die of old age or disease

Frustrating for sure, and I'm probably being too stubborn, but man it just feels like it could happen anytime!
Best of luck Jared he is definitely an old monarch And Happy New Year to you and your family
Thanks Matt, same to you and yours!
Once again your footage is 2nd to none. Keep grinding. Good luck man. Have a happy new year if we don't see ya before.

Great footage. Thanks🤘🏻🦌

Loving this recurve quest you’re on. I know it’s gonna happen sooner or later!! Keep after it. Mad respect 🫡
Thanks man, I hope you're right!
Great footage. He will eventually mess up.Keep at it.
Thanks Butch
What a great spot and consistent encounters with him. It'll happen if this weather will cooperate! That deer is a tank!
It's a really cool spot for sure! Thanks man
that is a tank dude! love those type of bucks!
No doubt! There's something about a buck that can survive that long and has seen so much that it's fun to go after them regardless of antler size.
@@jaredmills amen to that!
Hhahaa im yelling at my phone, "just use the damn compound already" lol. Thanks for journey Jared, been following since day 1, Happy New Year bud
Haha. You're certainly not the only one! Appreciate you following along as always, Happy New Year!
Great patience, enjoy your videoing.
Thanks Robert, I appreciate it
oh man! Im sure when it all comes together you might have the biggest adrenaline dump ever! Best of luck Jared.
If it does happen, I have a feeling it will be one of my favorites of all time. Thanks man!

We got a couple inches today actually, just not sure how long it'll last!

I’d like to see or hear your exit strategy in that spot when leaving.
The Old Boys Not Too Old To Think About Some Action!
Never!
I'll give it to you , you've held strong with the recurve . BUT it's time to close the deal , bring out the RX8 !
Haha. Still trying to decide!
@jaredmills he's an interesting old buck and you know you can take him with the compound . Keep playing the game , he'll be older next season
Honestly looks like hip displatia!

I don’t think he can live another year. He’s that old
He's up there for sure. My best guess is 9.5 based on photo history.
OK that buck is starting to be a real jerk now he must be illiterate because he’s not reading a script
Couldn't agree more!
