The RX-7 FC also use dial switches in the same places, same functions. They're sideways mounted. There's a smaller dial on the outside of the light dial where you adjust dash brightness on the instrument panel. Above there's a smaller dial to pop up headlights without turning on the light which can be used when the car is turned completely off without a key inserted. Same small dial goes for the outside of the window wiper dial where you adjust the interval speed while the window wiper is set to "int". Unfortunately in my case this function works when it wants to so I usually resort to "lo" or "hi". Where most cars usually have their window wiper switch the RX-7 has cruise control. The rear window wiper switch is this zipper plastic thingy sticking up from the mid console that you flip. This is also where the fog light switch resides.
Hi. I thought I rewatch this gem and I recognized something that wasn't mentioned (or I missed it). Some models markets have lights indicating that the headlights are on at 3:36 or some indicationg of the wiper system at 3:39. You know about which markets have these and what the status light on the wiper is supposed to mean? My Japanese car doesn't have those.
Another awesome video. I remember the Corolla AE86 GT was sold in the U.S.A. I was too young to drive at the time, but I remember finding the car more attractive than other Toyotas.
My wiper spray button on the ae86 sr5 does some weird stuff... Like it turns off the cluster completely, and also turn off the a/c.... I'm stumped atm...
Sounds like the something is drawing a too high current. I don't have the wiring diagram close by, but it's probably the shared power feed. As you mention it's when you press the wiper spray I would suspect the wiper spray motor. Try disconnecting the motor and see if it still happens. If it stops you have to replace the motor. If not it's probably the button itself.
Also a good question. The rear wiper switch is a separate button on the left (LHD) or right (RHD) of the steering wheel. I have a two door, so my car doesn't have this button and I placed a chime kill switch in its place 😆
i didn't know these cars came with those twist pads outside the knobs, the cressida has an intermitent timer knob apart of the 3 speeds and that was new for me because the celica doesn't feature that or the dimmer either. hey Art, do you know what can i do when the dash is too dim? the cressida digital dash is too dim even if i turn the knob all the way up. maybe you know since you've been doing some successful electrical stuff ;)
+taunusv4power maybe the Celica didn't come with it either as it isn't the luxury trim level, just like the GT trim of the Trueno was lacking these switches? I have heard people have the same issue with the AE86 illumination. The rheostat (variable resistor) is getting old, so it might be in need of cleaning. First thing to check is whether the dash lights up brighter when you bridge the terminal of the rheostat. If this is the case, you can open the plastic knob and use some contact spray on it, or clean it with swiping earbuds with alcohol over it. If it doesn't illuminate more, your bulbs are probably old/yellowed or don't make very good contact anymore. In the latter case you can also clean the contacts if you remove the cluster.
cool :D didnt know these switches have these rotating parts :D also its funny that even tho i knew one of these switches is for wipers, i never somehow realised that the lever wich most cars have under the swheel is missing...even tho it should be pretty obvious lmao
A fun fact is that in Initial D Wataru loses his battle against Keisuke, due to taking his hand off the steering wheel to adjust his wipers. I didn't include it in the trivia, as it would have been too offtopic. ;)

Thanks! In didn't know the FC had a similar dial switch design! 👍
so with Trueno I can extend my headlights without turning them on? Cool!
Yes, that's the last notch. They will close once you turn off the contract though
Great video Banpei! Keep making more of these ae86 trivia videos or ae86 videos in general.
+Patrick Bateman thanks! will do!
ae86 trueno yes +
Good info, so if i want to do a levin > trueno front swap, i will also need to change the dashboard light switches
Yes indeed. Also the retractor relay(under dashboard) is necessary as otherwise the lights wont flip up
Also trueno has an extra step on the switch to keep the lights up but turned off.
Thank you Art!

What exactly do you mean with the indication the headlights are on? You mean on the switch itself?
The photo here is from a US or Canadian model.
@@banpeinet Yep, the small lamp right next to the switch. On 3:39 seems to be an indication for something wiper related.
nice 86 vid
love this kind of videos keep them coming !!
+darkcorsair247 thanks! Now I need to find more of these small variations! ;)
Why I need an Eight-Six part 157
good

Thanks for the compliment! 👍
You're welcome. :)

good stuff! does your windshield spray work?
+corollaweeb thanks! And yes it does. Now in hindsight I forgot to mention you actually have to push the switch in to make it spray
How do u use the rear wiper spray 🤔

how u take them things out? i can remove my wiper knob easily but my headlight knob wont budge at all..
I can pull the knob and with a little bit of persuasion both comes loose
Any one tell me how to use the rear window spray 🤔
Hello, would you happen to know any trustworthy import sites? Trying to get one into the US
Japanese Classics
BTW do you have some information about the digital cluster? is it plug and play or does it need special harness?

banpeinet thanks Art, i'll try that :)

God I wished my rheostat worked
I have been interested in adding the variable intermittent wiper feature to my US model GT-S. Does anyone know what parts are needed? Part numbers?
86 no feelings
