Fabricating A Classic Car Full Sill Panel BY HAND - DISASTER Datsun 260z Restoration
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 жов 2024
- This Disaster Datsun Classic car was falling apart and we are rebuilding it from the ground up! This video featured a full outer and inner sill section which we fabricate by hand! When we offer it up to the car it fits perfectly and we are looking forward to getting it welded in! This is a huge panel to make by hand and it turned out amazing!
Now that is made, we can concentrate on that outer over panel which meets the recess we made and then that side will really be taking shape! We didn't expect to be re-making this much of the Datsun, but it has to live up to its Disaster name!
Next will be that cover section and the wheel arch section. Plenty more to go at!
If you do enjoy the video, please consider subscribing and hit that like button.

Thank you all for continuing to support us in this journey, it does mean a lot to us!
Brilliant skills and very theraputic to watch.
I find watching these fabrication videos, with this type of soundtrack to be very therapeutic.
Again excellent fabrication work 👏👍
19.11 shows the before and after pictures of the entire outer sill panel in one section. Really cool fabrication skills.
You sir are a craftsmen of the highest standard 👍👍
The structural integrity of this Datsun after suffering decay that would have collapsed any new car, keeps astonishing me to no end!
8:00 IMO you don't see this anywhere else on UA-cam, the art of making one big panel out of one big piece of sheet instead of 10 smaller ones!
Not strictly needed, but a very nice touch, and economic for sheet metal & welding gas (both of which are expensive), lots of firsts on YCR! 😊
That "inner sill section" is called the dogleg, you made it look easy but those are very tricky to make out of one piece like you did here.
Thank you for describing what we’re seeing. I learned something & enjoyed Ryan’s work all the more for it.
@@GT380man Thx for that, though wasn't so much a recap as it was commenting to YCR on what were outstanding points to me as a viewer😁
And I agree, Ryan is great!
Just amazing. What a skill and strong determination
Ryan I love have you have the patience to do it right without cutting corners and I can see that you are fully within your abilities as I see no element of stress in you as you methodically do the work stage by stage
I can't get enough of your amazing skills.
Incredible craftsmanship!! Absolutely in awe of your skill, patience and commitment to absolute excellence 🔥 Nothing but respect 🫡
Hello 👋 Ryan you are a super genius my friend you and Steve are the best it doesn't get no better than you guys ❤️ I really loved that chassis rail you made for mat Armstrong BMW I commented on it and I said that chassis rail belongs in a museum it was a absolutely beautiful work of art 🎨 I loved that video of you working 💪 on it and look forward to seeing the next upload I'm hoping tomorrow Sunday just like last Sunday upload of it guess you all have been busy I haven't seen anything in the comments I went back and I thought UA-cam may have blocked me for writing long texts but with work like that I just can't sum it up in a few words..man I love this channel and I love to watch you work and talk about how you are going to fix the problems you did a awesome 👌 job on this Datsun take care my friends.
I am in awe of your fabrication skills. I love the use of bits of old cardboard boxes to act as templates.
I think you mean fully state of the art cloud software CAD, or card board aided design as it is known in the trade
@@bobstacey9311Love that. Not heard that before.
Incredible fabrication skills and second to none in regards to attention to detail!
Thank you so much :) I'm happy how it turned out :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration Really enjoying watching your fab work! Great choice in music too lol! It's incredible what you can do when you put your mind and skills to something!
Nice job keeping the overlap panel, its the small details like that, that keep it 100% original.
Clecos are handy when it comes to multiple on and offs of fabricated panels. Very good work!
I think I saw extensive use of these during the fabrication of the skins of the control surfaces and of the body on a light aircraft that a friend built in his garage. He had to extend the garage with a temporary “porch” section extending into his drive, because the longest section, the fuselage, was a few feet longer than the garage. Clicos everywhere.
When I watch how much is involved, I think why bother? But it's great entertainment and you're teaching us that patience and perseverance pays off. Brilliant.
I discovered you guys because of doing Matt Armstrongs BMW and I'm so glad I have. I watched this video and then went back to Thale start and have watched all of the disaster Datsun videos now. Your skill and patience cannot be understated. You have made me want to get a rust bucket and have a go at restoring a car 🤣 please keep up this awesome content
You, sir, are a master of your craft.
That cill you fabricated was your best work yet, you should be very proud of yourself, nice one Ryan.
Really enjoy these YCR videos. Such skill.
Well done Ryan, You deserve one more piece of cake.
You have showed true skilled workmanship with this one ,well done 👍👍
One of the best body repairs I have ever seen.
Your dad must be immensely proud of you and your talent ! Cheers
One "cheat" I have discovered over the millennia is to set up a laser before cutting off the old sill - that & having 50 reference measurements written on the car. I set the laser to shine its line along the bottom door gap, with the laser itself stuck to something immovable & its position marked in case someone else moves it. That way there's at least a pretty good reference for where stuff needs to be at when the welding is done. Makes for less surprises. :-)
Neat solution indeed to the otherwise lack of reference points.
No histrionics; just damn fine fabrication! Very very good work Sir! ❤
Video title is pretty misleading tbh. It really should be 'Fabricating a complete Datsun 260z by hand using an Iron-Oxide template'
The new UK built Morris 260Z...more British Steel than a baked beans can

It will need a new vin number
🤣🤣🤣
Excellent description. Not only funny, but close to reality.
Interesting watch you just make it look so easy 👏🏻
Love watching these., would love to spend a day watching you doing it.
Ryan, some of your best work yet. That sill is looking amazing! Nice to see you got a larger break for doing the sill section. You have a great talent with fabrication. Your dad does too, to be honest. Again great work. Can't see how she finishes up. Well done!
Great job on that door sill!!! That is one of the hardest parts to male and you've done quite well!! Way to go!!
Brilliant, Brilliant, fabulous, more more more please, we love watching your skill and seeing the almost impossible remake of the hopelessly rust destroyed Datsun
I am not surprised you have an Aston in the background. Your fabrication skills are fantastic. This must terrify allot of Datsun owners who don't have access to these skills. Masterclass in fabrication.
These challenging project car makes you sharper and better when it comes with metal fab and body repair skills.
Not often I watch YT in full screen, but your tin bashing skills are excellent and I wanted to see close up, good job.
Best yet on this rust bucket, if you get this back on the road it will be nothing short of a miracle.
This is amazingly therapeutic
That looks like an awesome achievement. I suggest that you have a competition with a prize of a rusty sill for anyone who can spot the two square inches of the Disaster Datsun you haven't welded.
06.33 my compliments, very nicely made!! Nick.
I am enjoying every installment of this disaster Datsun. I have never done this type of work but you show with patience and care it can be done with basic tools. Great work.
This channel is so helpful and motivating......................................................Fort Worth,Tx
UnFricking believable - superb dosen't get close to describing that fabrication
Thank you so much Colin!! It turned out nice :) looking forward to getting it welded on
Fabulous work. Great video, thank you
I am wondering what makes this car worth all of the effort. You are masterful and no dought this be amazing in the end.
Bloody brilliant mate. Absolutely love your videos. I'm pretty sure I'll be putting some work your way very soon.
Super Impressive!!!
You can't beat a nice bit of flange
I'm blown away by the metalwork-skills you guys have....just one question; aren't these sills readily available as repair-parts?
Or is that cheating...😅
I'm blown away this is so satisfying 😑
fantastic Ryan your a good chip off the old block. fantastic skill on the rear section especially!!!!!
Superbly fabricated !
Greeting from Vancouver, you guys are AMAZING craftsmen!
A beautiful piece of art!!!Nick
These are the most beautiful cars ever. The line are perfect. Can't wait to see it fully restored. Great job so far!
Very talented, needs committing for taking this on, but top craftsmanship and pride in doing it right.
fantastic work and I ain’t kidding you
Well done, Ryan! You aced that one for sure, Great to see how you achieved that! I was shaking my head over how to do it and I am glad that I used your brains and ability, to make a difficult and complicated series of shapes into the semblance of order, to turn into a great job. Thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Great work as ever we need more vids can you do a short on what type of cutting grinding and sanding discs you use
What an excellent job, love it.
Great work Ryan, can't believe you've come as far as you have in the time since the first videos.
Nice one, the sills look like one of the challenging repairs on this car and at least that battle is won. Cheers!😊
It's so good to see what you guys can do with sheet metal and a small selection of tools and the way that you are able to rescue such wrecks. I just wish that I could become an apprentice with you 😄😄😄
Yet another masterclass.
Beautiful peace of work….. ⚒️👍
The (re)construction of a brand new car continue 😁
Brilliant work as always
Bloody brilliant work!
It's starting to look as if the back and and the front end might go in the same direction when this is finished! Rocco will be pleased by your impressive fabrication.
As an aside: is a panel fabricated from multiple pieces and welded stronger than one pressed as a single piece?
Wow, simply awesome 🎉👍
Stunning work…
Great bit of fab Ryan!
An offcut of lino makes a great mat, and you can slide up and down on your back so dont need to get up. When its done, get another one.
Amazing job 👏
Good work I’m sure it a lot longer than the video time to finish thank you
Bloody good work bud 😊
Excellent . No guy with fake smile
Great work... Respekt 👍
Nice job man 👌👍
Fanastic job
Brilliant fabrication mate ! Pure art !!!
Dobrá práce!!já vyrábíme ty nástroje s kterými ty vrtaš do plechu....
Your craftsmanship is a work of art, I just love the crazy dedication and patients to the quality of work carried out. You sir are one of a kind.
Jag blir glad av att se andra män jobba 😁 Särskilt med bilar....👍
Great fabrication skills, and using CAD templates to recreate the original part.
CAD is the cardboard aided design 😂 (from project binky)
Amazing skills
Superb work i am guessing you wont want to do another datsun to soon after this one is finished
Nice work ,one more pice done😎👍
Incredible fabrication. And you make it all look so effortless. I have to ask, is Steve your dad?
In one of the older videos he said it was him, his brother and his dad working on the cars, yes.
@@Ragnar8504 excellent. Family business. Loves it!
Amazing work. Is the Datsun your own project?
I have never seen work to perfection by another person. You make artificial intelligence look stupid, I'm just lost for words by your incredible work. I try not to miss a video on the insane job you do.
fantastic work rian , there is allways time for cake 😆i know i am getting ahead of things but i hate to think how mutch filler there is in those doors ?
Amazing work. And it looks so easy. Yeah I'm sure it is...😂
fantastic
Why is not a fully made Datsun outer sill available, why dont you use spot welding machines, do you ever use a joddler - reasons why would be great reply and help me understand a bit more -- thanks
brah you got my respect......
Nice work. Is this a customer car or an own project
Bloody magician 🤣🤣🤣
Fabrication at its best.....
Be good to know how long that piece took to make...epic
Wizzard!
